Extended edition of Peter Jackson's "King Kong"

can we please just talk about the wacky idea of this movie and its extended edition and avoid doing this thread another "Member vs Member thread" please?

Oh, people are not attacking me. And they only think I'm attacking them. I'm simply calling for some sanity among movie watchers. And perhaps they could try and accept some of what I'm saying - no, instead they completely deny it for the sole reason that they think I meant to say they're stupid. Nothing of the sort. But this movie was absolutely horrible, and if you liked it - you could have been responding to something unknown that makes the brain think the movie is good. But it wasn't. And this instance of my saying otherwise wouldn't have even occured if people didn't keep giving this movie more credit than it deserves.

If I knew everyone here and they knew me, they wouldn't be bothered by what I was saying, and I'm sure I would profess my deep respect and surfacial love for each and every one of you all. However, my devotion to film quality dictates I continue to defend the integrity of film and to keep spearing the films that assault the quality of film. And if necessary, the states of minds of the viewers who continue to laud them, undeservedly.

Lazario, I don't think you are attacking me, personally. I do think that you are attacking this film, undeservedly. I'm not in the least bit bothered by what you are saying. You don't like the film. You think it's horrible. That's all fine by me. As I said, that's your opinion. It isn't going to stop me from voicing that I think you are way off base. This isn't meant to be rude, but, at the end of the day, I could care less what you think of the film. The fact is, I truly enjoyed it, and that, to me, is all that matters.

As I said, I'm quite looking forward to the extended cut, so I can enjoy this "horrible" film, even more.

That's a very good thing. I don't expect people to believe that I know more than they do. I wouldn't know what I would do if people were actually asking me what I thought - I can't take all the pressure.

An extended edition of Kong would be a good idea, but I already own the 2-disc Special Edition.

Peter Jackson bashing aside, I'm really sorry for you, Pixar. You have to know that all studios would and will double-triple-quadrouple-and millionoubleoupleinfinity dip on releases for all and any Peter Jackson movies they have in their catalog. Anyone who bought the one release is sure to be bothered when that same studio releases their next 14 other Special releases of the exact same title (in the following months - forget years, by then the numbers of double-dip releases will be in the thousands).

The only thing that bugs me is that DVDActive is reporting only 13 minutes of footage is being re-inserted into the film, while the other 40 minutes will remain as supplements. Didn't PJ said all of that footage was going to be put back in? Hopefully those 13 minutes are worthwhile, though even if they aren't, the supplements definitely make the wait worth it.

Apparently, Peter Jackson decided not to restore as much into the extended cut of the film, as he originally mentioned. Regardless, I'm glad that we will be getting the remaining footage as deleted scenes. I do hope that he does restore the footage cut from the swamp scene, with the men crossing the swamp in boats that they made from things they found in the jungle.

I'm very excited about this release, and I can't wait! I'm also glad that we will get the commentary (as expected), and trailers. That's one thing sorely lacking from the current 2-Disc Special Edition!

'Kong' Roars at Comic-Con

SAN DIEGO — Comic-Con attendees were treated to a taste of Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s upcoming King Kong Deluxe Limited Edition DVD streeting Nov. 14.

While driving around in some very wet New Zealand winter weather, director Peter Jackson recorded a special video message for the throng of Kong fans at this year’s show.

“This one, we’ve prepared definitely for the geeks,” Jackson said. “Even though we already did the video diaries, we had to be very careful then, we were very circumspect about what we would show you before the movie came out. This one goes much deeper into the details.”

And, unlike the “Lord of the Rings” discs, this edition of Kong will also include a blooper reel, the director said.

“This time we really embarrass our actors,” he said.

The movie on the new disc is 13 minutes longer, includes 30 minutes of deleted scenes and 230 new visual effects.

The Comic-Con crowd got a look at one of those deleted scenes during which a gigantic eel-like sea creature snarfs down two of the crew on Skull island, and very nearly makes a meal out of lead character Jack Driscoll (Adrien Brody).

The three-DVD set also includes new interviews, artwork, visual effects featurettes and a commentary track. The deleted scenes can be viewed as part of the film using a branching feature.

There also will be a gift set that includes a collectible specially created by WETA, Jackson’s special effects house that worked on the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
