As with virtually everyone else on this thread, I am also MEGA upset re the delay. It sounds like Luke's source is credible, so we all have no choice but to wait.
Along with myself, I'm sure there are plenty of others who still need other Disney titles to complete their collections. Perhaps people should just take the opportunity to start buying these now instead of next year until the Treasures come out. Either way, by mid next year you will end up with the same titles you were going to have anyway, but you will just purchase them in a different order. You have to look on the bright side !.. (even if you don't want to).
Well, when I have read the front page of ultimatedisney, I almost had a heart attack. The good news among the bad news is that this is not confirmed yet -I hope-. I have just went to Amazon.com and, as you suggested, the price for wave 3 is more expensive. And boy, am I glad that I did pre-order them last Thursday at Amazon for almost $ 6 less each! They are still in my pre-order account for that price.
The Treasures are not in the comming soon releases at Disney.com, however, if you go to the calendar it still says December 2, 2003 and you can even click to buy them.
I don't know... This is all a mess and I wouldn't like to wait so long to get these cartoons, specially the wartime ones.
As a public relations marketing person i wouldnt be surprised but i might add that a lot of companies avoid that for ethical reasons. in fact there was just a big controversy here in Vegas about a politician admitting to doing that.
still i just cant imagine disney making a change this late in the game with so much riding on these releases.
i mean december second is a big day for disney with the treasures and potc. Thats one day that disney knows they can clean up. some of the other releases mentioned really aren't in the same market, esp. when one cosiders that the treasures are more "collector" items then say the release of the brave little toaster.
disney being a huge company wouldnt back down from many releases esp with the holiday season looming. i mean they made nearly 650 million in the US from nemo and pirates alone. that combined with the DVD releases of those movies and the treasures could result in a one billion dollar year from two movies and a handful of old material. i can't see disney passing on that.
this of course says nothing of throwing off release schedules.
On the release calendar at the official disney video/dvd page, three of the titles (all but Mickey) still show a release date of 2 December. Could Mickey be the only one delayed? Maybe they're getting cold feet about Runaway Brain again?
Bad news: I'm a regular customer at DV-Depot.com and they have gotten confirmation from their supplier that the treasures is indeed coming out in May 2004.
I asked a very reliable animation historian/enthusiast about this possible rumor and he thinks that it may be just fanboy rumor (which I'm sure nobody wants to be included in that catagory), and he may check sometime today about this. As far as he knows, they are on track for December release--I mean, there was a big VICTORY THROUGH AIR POWER and WARTIME CARTOON screening in LA two weeks ago to promote the DVD! It'd be highly unlikely that Disney would do an "about face" and shelve the project until May.
If you take a look at the repackaged "Ultimate Treasure Box" at Costco, there is a small advertisement for Wave 3 as being released on December 2. Would Disney really be willing to irritate such enormous retailers as Costco or Amazon.com? Seems their ego knows no bounds...
Accept it folks. Disney store.com now says available spring 2004.
Disney consumer relations is also confirming that it has been moved back. I filed a fromal complaint with them for changing the date and they gave me an email address to also file a complaint. I would encourage all my fellow posters that feel strongly abouth these releases to email disney and file a complaint and demand either an explenation as to why they were delayed, or to safeguard their content. Pleeeease!!!! The email adress is disneyinfo@disneyhelp.com.

Why would Disney get cold feet about Runaway Brain? I'm a bit naive - could you enlighten me? In the UK, Disney released a video called Mickey's Greatest Hits a few years ago, and Runaway Brain was on it. I loved it!
By the way, just sent my complaint to Disney. You do the same!

so much for hoping that we'd still get them in december. that really stinks. i've been checking their website for days seeing if they would ever change the release date, and only if you search for it at the disney store and look at each individual one does it say they'll be available in spring 2004. it's still listed in their coming soon/preorder section and even their treasures page still says 12/2. urgh, it's so frustrating.
i wonder if we will get any explanation from disney about why they decided to push the release date back so far. i sincerely hope it's a demand issue. in my mind that's the only explanation i can understand.
I seem to recall hearing that Runaway Brain has not been released in the states because the suits were concerned about Mickey's behavior in the short. Not having seen it, I can only guess as to what the problem is. Isn't this the same problem Walt had with his favorite character--not being able to do anything interesting with him because he became too much of a role model?

This time the Disney Company have gone too far.
If they doesn´t come with an explanation WHY - they have surely shot themself in their feet this time. It will be a big rumble with this be sure of that....
So then we will hardly not get any wave 4 next year either.
I can´t imagine that they will put out 7 or 8 tins during one year.
We should be looking for them in heaven...or maybe HELL.
And to be honest if that is the truth I would rather they just came out and said it. I would rather have top quality in May than problem disks in December.
If it is true, then some really major disaster must have struck. (Like the entire stock having burned up or something...)
I don't think the other explanations that have been posted here are the least bit plausible. You simply don't push release dates by five months (and with only three weeks notice) because of changed market strategies, or to avoid competition with other products.
They might reschedule one of the sets because of legal problems, but all four?

i wish society in general wasn't so afraid of offending anyone. i'm not saying we should all say and do what we please with reckless disregard to how other people feel, however, i wish people could take things at face value and not twist them into personal attacks towards a certain group of people or belief system. *sigh* that was just my rant on editing and "censorship" as we like to call it on the forum.
anyway, back to the topic of mickey in this cartoon. i've never seen it myself, but the only thing i can come up with is that mickey might be scary to young kids. excuse me, but who are the people buying these cartoons for?? most people buying these treasures sets are mainly collectors who just want these films for their artisic and historical importance. besides, if a young kid gets scared, don't let them watch it.

Must be a problem with them.

I agree. Plus, I have no more money left so it sort of works out for me!
