The show is owned by Paramount. Disney has nothing to do with this show other than airing the show on one of there many US channels. But hey welcome to UD!

Not true. Perhaps you're thinking of "Sister, Sister" (which is Paramount-owned), but "Smart Guy" is definitely a Walt Disney Television property (with the "Disney" name and all, for that matter). (That explains why it's on our TV Shows page and on the logo of our long-forgotten and now largely outdated TV-on-DVD rant "Fuzzy Reception".

But there is no news of a DVD release and with the way that Disney seems so cautious about putting TV shows on DVD, one may never come. Especially with it not being in syndication anymore.

Too bad. I quite enjoyed the show, from the handful of episodes I saw.

Yeah, I hope Disney releases that show some day. I still watch re-runs on the Family channel.

P.S. Luke, your missing the show "Maybe This Time" from your list of TV shows. It ran from 1995 through 1996 on the ABC network. It starred Betty White, Marie Osmond and Ashley Johnson.

It's excluded because it didn't run a whole season. While I'm sure it will never see the light of day, I'm intrigued to see the episode that "Boy Meets World" characters are apparently in. That would have been a perfect bonus feature on BMW; Disney owns the rights to both shows, all characters, etc. But alas, no dice.

I remember this show- it wasn't bad, actually had some funny episodes. I always tuned in just to hear the rad theme song. XD

That may be, but by Disney's standards, a full season usually entails 22 episodes or more and running until May. "Maybe" was pulled in February. A number of other shows that went this long have likewise been excluded for the page. Had "Maybe" been made now, it'd definitely have a chance to come to DVD, like "Commander in Chief" (which ran exactly 18 episodes) or "Life, As We Know It", which ran less. As it is, most won't. There are a few exceptions, which ran less and are included, but they tend to be special cases and are in sections of the page which aren't already overflowing like the Live Action Sitcoms and Dramas one is.

Trust me, if "Maybe" were to somehow make it to DVD, it'd be added to the page and accordingly covered. I just don't see that happening.

Oh, okay. With Disney holding the rights I agree with you that it has a snowballs chance in hell of getting a release. Too bad Sony doesn't own it, they are good at releasing shows that lasted only one season.

Yes, and too bad they're not willing to let someone else release it. Though they did let Image Entertainment release "Nowhere Man" and Shout! Factory release "All-American Girl." So there's hope. Of course, those being a genre series and a vehicle for a relatively famous comedienne probably make them easier sells than "Smart Guy." But then "Maybe" has - as you're well aware - Betty White, so it too has the star power. I have no doubt that if done the right way, "Smart Guy" could turn a profit too.

I forgot to mention that Craig Ferguson was also in Maybe This Time. And hes currently hosting The Late, Late Show. I think its great when Disney licenses shows out to other smaller companies. The smaller companies will actually spend money on good bonus features as they did on All-American Girl.
