"Der Fuehrers Face"

Post by musicradio77 »

Does any remember that Donald Duck cartoon? It was one of my favorite WW2 Disney cartoons ever. It has the title song for that cartoon. I have that song by Spike Jones & His City Slickers on vinyl. This cartoon was about Hitler where Donald was working on bullets and then he worked and worked too much until it's too late. At the end of the cartoon, Donald was glad to be an Amercian. That has a patriotic theme at the end. This cartoon had a special Hitler ending instead of the standard Disney ending card shown in all cartoons. I hope you enjoy this cartoon. I found it on YouTube and here it is.

DFF was also one of the strongest attractions of the Front Lines WDT set.

I'd never had the opportunity to see DFF before that release - and it had never been widely available (on home video) until then, as far as I can tell.

Musicradio, I don't own any of the Walt Disney Treasures, so seeing that was a real treasure! Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I always wanted to see the war cartoons Diseny made...

Then I'd recommend that you buy the Front Lines set - it seems to be available from dvdpacific.com.

I downloaded it off the computer a couple of years back & when I first saw it, I was like "Whoa, Donald Duck saying "Heil Hitler" has to be one of the weirdest things I've ever seen or heard". But that's understandable, due to the times of WWII. Hey, it won an Oscar, so there can't be that much wrong with it.

I agree with Lars Vermundsberget, buy the Frontlines DVD as soon as possible before it's worth a fortune on eBay. It's one of the best Treasure sets Disney made & it's got some good extras & cartoons on it, including Victory Through Air Power which is a must see for major Disney buffs.

I really liked that short. It was really funny and edgy.

This set has the highest print run of all the Treasures, so it'll remain "less rare" than the others. But the contents make it a highly attractive and valuable package. My highest recommendation!

I agree---it's a great set. Victory Through Air Power is especially impressive when you hear some of its backstory (like how Churchill saw it before FDR & insisted Roosevelt watch it---did Uncle Walt help win the war?) My only complaint with OTFL is really with the Walt Disney Treasure collection Chronological Donald, Vol. 2: there's almost an entire disc's worth of overlap in contents! It can't be helped, obviously, since Donald was featured more than any other character in the studio's wartime cartoons. If you have trouble finding On the Front Lines, "Der Fuehrer's Face" is one of the many WW2 shorts on Chronological Donald, Vol. 2.

I'd say it's absolutely fair that a handful of DD shorts were included both in the Front Lines and the DD sets. But before the contents of DD vol 2 were announced, I calculated that, if they did not include the war-specific ones already on the FL set, they could be able the fit the rest of the DD shorts into DD vol 2 and vol 3 - and no vol 4. As it is now, I'm pretty sure there'll have to be a vol 4. But that's for the Treasures speculation threads.

I'll have to get the Treasure Pack soon. My teacher showed that cartoon while we were studying the WWII and I Loved It. It's hilarious throughout the flick. Thanks for the link :D
