Should I heed the critics warning?
well, initially most critics didn't like the first one all that much so I wouldn't bother. The EW review starts having the reviewer explaining she was wrong about the first movie and then goes on to say how this one is worse. If you change your opinion on a film after the audience embraces it, why would anyone ever take you seriously as a critic? I haven't seen the film, but that review ticked me off.

This film probaply suffers from much of the same things that plagued the original, but if those things never bothered you in the first film, you're likely not to be bothered by them in the second film. I haven't heard of many fans of the original who were dissapointed. So I guess that bodes well if you loved the Black Pearl.

Pirates of the Carrbean: Dead Man's Chest was one of the best summer movie besides X-Men: The Last Stand. Also loved the new Disney logo in the beginning of the film.
I hope you guys stayed after the credits because you miss a funny part.
Anyways I give POTC: DMC 10/10 and know I give X-Men 9/10 but after seeing it again I give it 10/10.

If you haven't seen it yet get off your seat and drive to your nearest theatre.

I got to the theatre at 6 p.m. and it was sold out until 10:15 so I got 10:15 tickets and was amazed that it was sold out at 10:15 when I got back from eating in the mall. I even went an hour early to get good seats and like 20 people already made line.

Anyways this was the best Disney movie since Narnia and I can't wait for At World End....

I saw it last night and loved it. As others have said, it honors and maintains what made the first movie so special. Fresh, funny, adventuresome, and exciting, so much goes right in this movie. The acting, effects, and score were all terrific too (not to mention the many references to the POTC ride). It may have been just a little bit slow at the very beginning, but still interesting enough in its set-up to make that not matter. The rest of the movie flew by and I couldn't believe that it was time for it to end. I think I probably liked COTBP a little more, but it's a close call. Despite a terrible theater set-up/experience, I absolutely loved this movie and can't wait to rewatch both this and COTBP and see At World's End next year. :D

Oh, and the new Disney logo was amazing. The audience "ooh"ed and "ahh"ed.

BoxOfficeMojo.com has posted opening day estimates for POTC 2. If the estimates hold, POTC 2 would have the highest opening day total in history, at $55,500,000.00. Flipping amazing!!!

Wow, that is the first word that comes to my mind when I think of the new Pirates movie, and that is not just for the movie, both theaters within 20 miles of me were sold out every show yesterday, 2 screens each theater. We went to both theaters and finally had to settle for a 10 pm show which also sold out. Anyway the movie was great and I am so ready for part III. Wow, and then the trailers Transformers and Night at the Museum both look great. 5 out of 5, Like Pals said best Disney movie since Narnia

When the trailer for Transfomers showed almost everyone was cheering but the why cheer if we can't even seen how the Autobots or Decepticons look like. We only saw a big shadow of a Decepticon smash that Rover machine well it has to be a Decepticon because a Autobot wouldn't smash it. Anyways I seen this trialer online before and told my sister it's Trasformers when they showed like 5 seconds of the trailer.
Yeah I was cheering a little since I was a fan of that show.

Don't listen to what the critics say. This film is awesome! It is completely exilarating! It's only fault may be that it is slightly too long. But it makes up for it with the fact that you are either exploding with laughter, or having a near heart-attack.

The new logo is pretty impressive, and the little scene after the credits is funny. But if youre in a hurry to leave, it's not too important that you see it.

I intend to post a review later today, but first I wanted to let everyone know there is a little something after the credits. Make sure you stick around until the very end.

What is wrong with loud? I have seen it twice now in a THX theater with a four-story tall screen, and loud is the way to see ANY movie. Life is loud, you can't turn life down, so why should a movie be quiet.

Have never seen anyone leave a theater because the sound was too loud.

Don't forget to stay until the last credit has run to see the little tag at the end.

"Pirates" sequel sets new record at box office

This is hot off the press:

"Pirates" sequel sets new record at box office
Sunday July 9 11:28 AM ET

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" set a new record for the highest opening in box office history on Sunday, smashing the four-year-old record held by "Spider-Man," said distributor Walt Disney Co.

The widely hyped family adventure sequel, marking the return of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, sold an estimated $132 million worth of tickets in its first three days of release across North America, easily surpassing industry expectations of an opening in the $100 million range.

The old three-day mark of $115 million was set by "Spider-Man" in May 2002.

Additionally, the "Pirates" haul of $55.5 million during its first day of release on Friday set a new record for a single day, beating the $50 million earned on a Thursday in May 2005 by "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Incredible! Final numbers will be posted on Monday. If they hold, this is absolutely an incredible feat!

Another record that POTC 2: Dead Man's Chest breaks, providing that estimates hold, is being the fastest film to reach $100 million dollars. Past films have done it in 3 days. POTC 2: Dead Man's Chest did it in 2 days.

I've known for months that this movie would set Box Office records. The sad thing is, I'll be unable to go see Pirates for at least another two weeks (out of town)! Hopefully by then I'll still be able to find someone to go with me.

I was going to see it yesterday but two theaters were both sold out! I'll see it next weekend for sure though! :)

I am fresh off my POTC weekend and pretty exhausted. I was with my pirate reenactment crew at El Capitan on Saturday and then saw the film again this Sunday at 8AM. It is awesome and the critics are a bunch of whining idiots who will eat their words. Let them stew in their own embarrassment as this film skyrockets up the box office charts!!! There has been so much public anticipation that this film would have to be a horrible disaster to keep people away from the theaters. It is thee movie event of the summer. I really enjoyed it EVEN MORE the second time as I picked up on a lot I missed and got the plot story down solid. What is the matter with these reviewers?! Are they just too stupid to follow the plot?! As I was driving home from the theater and not more than 10 mins in my car, yet another negative anti-POTC review of the film came on the radio. Really, none of these critics have offered very concrete reasons (IMO) for hating the film - it seems to me that they just want to bash the film.

However, this is a much darker film than POTC#1 and seems to trade off being appealing to ALL ages and go for just the teenage and adult markets.... I mean the film was pretty intense and I would not recommend many young kids be seeing this, am I wrong? I prefer the skeletons (more piratesque) figures we had in #1 as opposed to the Star Wars type characters we see in #2, but I thought the story was very strong and very creative. I didn't really find the film to be slow at any point - my husband thought it was too long but he was very tired from the night before and dozing off while we were watching it.

Anyway, I am going to download my photos of our pirate group at El Capitan and post a couple of them (hopefully) tomorrow to this thread.
