R4 CE/PE DVDs lacking/differ in special features

I've been reading the DVD reviews on this site and noticed that most of them mention/or have screen captures of the menu with Sneak Peek sections.

Some of the more notible feature differences that I noticed were:

Sleeping Beauty, disc 1 - audio commentary, aspect ratios (the choice between wide screen and Pan & Scan), a different art project segment, and I think the Princess Personality Game as well.
Cinderella, disc 1 - sneak peeks (Cinderella III trailer, etc)

I didn't really expect the Disney DVDs to have different features depending on the regions... Why I thought that is kind of difficult to explain.

Does anyone know why the R4 versions had the Sneak Peek sections left off them, among other things? I'm especially annoyed that they left off the audio commentary on Sleeping Beauty.

Because most of the DVDs in the sneak peek section won't be released in Australia. So to edit the section and remove these titles would probably be too much trouble so they just delete it all together.

Get region 1 DVDs. The packaging is always better, there are always other features not included and you'll usually get them much earlier. Just look at Lady And The Tramp! Came out in February in the US, in a 2 Disc edition with much better cover art and a nice slipcase!

Ah, ok. Thanks. Still doesn't really explain why the commentary on Sleeping Beauty was left off....

I'd get R1 DVDs if I could, but my mum wouldn't see the sense in it (if you can get it in Australia, why get it from overseas?), and she doesn't like me buying things from overseas coz it costs more.

Not really. The exchange rate is quite good at the moment, especially when I remember around three years ago, I was sometimes paying more than double the price to import movies.

As a Disney DVD collector I buy the Australian version too.
But as a last resort.
Plus the US, UK & Japanese releases just for completeness.

They leave stuff off cos usually its not really that necessary to tell
any sorta story, that and theres no market for it here sometimes.

Like Disney Treasures. They saw they didn't sell in Australia so gave up on them all together, yet the states are up to Wave 5.

It's the same for Extras on DVDs.
like we didn't get Fred Willard talking to people in Dog Parks as an extra
on Lady & The Tramp.

Sure, its funny to watch once. But never again. So they left it off.

The Full Screen Version is included on the R1 release as well.
But who the heck would wanna watch a movie in Fullscreen when a better
looking Widescreen version exists?

Not Australians, decided the distributor for us.

So next time yo mama says she ain't gonna buy you any Region 1
DVDs you tell yo mama whats what. You say "I want them! "

That or get a Credit Card and do it yourself.

It's loads of fun buying things from all around the world.

Granted, your friends don't really care when you say

But as long as you care that you have the limited fold out cardboard UK r2 release of Nightmare Before Christmas, then thats all that counts.

Tell your mum you want to get the $300 AUS dollar
"Walt Disney Classics Box" from Japan.

If she thinks US dollars are expensive, wait till she sees Yen.

What were the Disney Treasures?

As for getting my own credit card, I'm still a few years too young to get one My aunty's going to America later this year so maybe i can get her to bring some DVDs back for me.

But for you and me down here in OZ, the Treasures really aren't that
exciting. We got the 2 Mickey Mouse sets plus Silly Symphonys & a Donald one.

But what we missed is really nothing to us in Australia.
They're all "older persons" sorta stuff. The only actual interesting one
was the Disneyland one with its opening day. Everything else isn't that fun.

And if your Aunty's going anywhere near a Best Buy Warehouse, tell her to get all the Disney DVDs for you there, or even Target have a good range sometimes.

Disneyland itself is probably the best place to get them if shes going anywhere near there.

Dunno about that mate. Went there last year (unbelievable btw, absolutely incredible), but the dvds were very very expensive, and the range wasn't that complete. Best buy sounds like the way to go, but wouldn't really know.

That is true re some shops in Disneyland not having a very thorough range though there are 6 different major stores in Disneyland
& Californian Adventure that sell DVDs & they have a great range all together.

Sure, theyre expensive, but so is a hamburger & fries there its about $25.

I frequent Disneyland yearly and found that the nearby
"The Block" in Orange ( orange is the suburb ) has lovely neat little shops. Then just out across the road is Best Buy for all your Best Buying needs.

And if you stick on Harbor Blvd theres a Target there that had loads of cool things on special. Cos it is Target afterall.

Geez man money musnt be 2 much of an issue... Disneyland yearly! You lucky person.

Just on hamburger analagy tho, i havent seen anyone walk into Disneyland and buy 30 or 40 hamburgers in one go (which you might do with dvd's). Also, Dvd's there are about $35 USD from memory which is close to $50 aussie each, which is a bit excessive i'm sure you'll agree

Man, u've made me want to go back to Disneyland BADLY But thats not really an option

A few things missing from Region 4 Discs that I would have really liked to see is:

+The Incredibles - That featurette on Sarah Vowell.
+Brother Bear - The Making of
+The Parent Trap (1961) - The Second Disc (Though to be honest I"m not sure what's on it, so it's one I'm not too worried about)
+The French Beauty and the Beast cover art (not really worried, but it does look really cool. Maybe they can use that art when it's re-released)

Though I would probably only watch most extras once or twice, with a few exceptions. I haven't even checked out the second disc for the Sound of Music and I'm not sure why, so that says a lot.
