Here's your chance to be first in the neighborhood to see "Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest". Most theaters will be having special midnight showings of the film tonight (Thursday). They will then start regular showings tomorrow (Friday).

Here in Wichita, the movie opens on twenty-two (22) screens, and they have been selling tickets since Monday for the special Midnight showing of POTCDMC. I have my tickets and will get to see this film tonight.

How about you???

Your tickets just went on sale Monday? I got mine on June 16th. :P

Reviews are mostly mixed but when you go and look at Rotten Tomatoes, keep in mind that the day before the first Pirates opened, most reviews were mixed to negative about that one as well. The moment it was greenlit people were dead set on making it fail because a theme park ride couldn't possibly be made into a movie? right?

The critics will be divided over this one as well I'm sure. Some of the negative reviews are kind of sad really, they'll resort to the most rediolous flaws the film has to convince its readers the movie sucks. Well, the thing is Johnny Depp couldn't suck in any movie even if he wanted to. I'm pretty sure the audience will eat this film up completely like the first one. It will still, like the first one, be about 20 minutes too long, but who cares. It looks fun, fun, fun.

I'm going to see it on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. I probably will buy the tickets tonight on my way home to make sure we get seats.

I'm hoping it breaks all the box office records it's predicted to. I'm not convinced yet, because there's just too many huge movies coming out all at once. I was really shocked by Superman not meeting expectations (despite it being an excellent movie), and don't want to be let down by Pirates.

What, you mean like people did with the Star Wars prequels. Obviously they couldn't suck, because they were, like, Star Wars. No pre/sequel to Star Wars could ever be rubbish :headshake:

I've not read all the negative reviews (when I last looked it was on 77%, so I guess more have been added) but I don't see anything outrageous in them. I've seen more outrageous negative comments from critics picking the last few Disney Animated Classics apart.

Common complaints for Dead Man's Chest seem to be "overlong", "episodic narrative", "too many effects", "extended chases" and "repeats the original". Seem to be perfectly valid to me. All were, to certain extents, my complaints about the first one (yes, even it repeating :) ).

I don't think any say it "sucks" as such, not in a Catwoman - Gigli - House of the Dead* way. They're just saying, for such a major release, it should be better, and point out where they think it could be improved. (I'd quite happily enjoy the first movie if it was half as long)
Well, the thing is Johnny Depp couldn't suck in any movie even if he wanted to. I'm pretty sure the audience will eat this film up completely like the first one. It will still, like the first one, be about 20 minutes too long, but who cares. It looks fun, fun, fun.
Depp may give a good performance, but I always thought Jack Sparrow was one of his lesser roles in the first place, but he can still star is sucky movies (see Secret Window, The Astronaut's Wife, The Ninth Gate (although at least this tried with a nugget of originality and artistic competence, but I expected more from Depp and Polanski) and Nick of Time). I can count on my fingers and toes other films I would recommend seeing above PotC to showcase Depp's talent.

* As a side-note The House of the Dead DVD has an excellent Producer's Commentary where even he spends the whole of the film saying what went wrong and apologising. (It also has a commentary by the infamous Uwe Boll, and others, which is just hilarious - for all the wrong reasons)

Pay no attention to the critics.........go see this movie. Who cares what critics think anyway, they don't even pay to get into the movies they review, most of them get a review copy on DVD and sit at home and watch the film and skip through whatever bores them.

If people paid less attention to what the critics think until after they themselves have seen the film, we might be a happier bunch of filmgoers. Critics jobs are to sway the public into their way of thinking. If we all paid attention to them, we wouldn't be treated to some very good movies that have been made in the past years.

I refuse to read what any critic says about any movie that I am going to see until after I see it. Then I read their review and either agree or disagree with it. That is what we should all do.

Then critics have no function. :o

I don't completely disagree with you (critics can only report their opinions, not yours), but... how else are you going to make a decision without taking some guidence, either from critics or trailers (both of which are unreliable).

If you were buying a new car, wouldn't you check out the opinions of an automotive journalist or a mechanic as well as your experience when test driving it?

I've always thought that the first movie wasn't brilliant but just good. And I've read fan reviews who thought the same like me and loved the sequel, so I'm excited.

I would love to go see that movie when it starts tomorrow. But I'm dying to see the new Walt Disney Pictures logo. I don't want to bring my camcorder to film the new logo because the theater owners won't bring cameras to the theatre.

Currently POTC: DMC is labled "rotten". But like the great posts of dvdjunkie and PatrickvD said: DON'T LISTEN TO THEM!!!

The critics have proved themselves to be almost always wrong. Some of the greatest movies ever made have been dissed by the critics including: Fantasia, The Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane, Star Wars, the original Pirates of the Caribbean.

While pure crap has gotten rave reviews in the past(the recent An Inconvenient Truth(a film made by a complete lunatic with no knowledge) got rave reviews).

As the old saying goes "there's no better critic than yourself". I think Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest will rock. And fans of the original(or even people who didn't care for it) should give this film a chance. :)

I can't wait to see this movie. I am going to the midnight showing tonight (I already have my tickets). I'm wondering if there will be alot of people, but who knows.

I'm not really paying attention to the reviews. I agree that alot of the movies I love got some poor reviews. Case in point: Cars. I want to be the judge for myself, and if it is anything like the first movie, I know I won't be disappointed and wishing that at 2:30 in the morning I was at home in bed instead of just leaving the theater.

Just saw this movie last night (opened yesterday in the UK).

You have to see this film! I watched the first POTC before going to see it, and it's easily just as good! It's not as original (naturally), but the plot's great and it moves at a good pace. The characters are all fantastic, with extra layers of depth being added to all of them.

The ending is incredible, and now I can't wait to see the 3rd film next May!

The new logo is also fantastic!

Going again tonight!

Just got back from a midnight screening....Wow!

Way better than I thought it would be, and I had high hopes. A little slow at first and a few cheesy "sequel" moments, but overall awesome, mainly the special effects (including makeup) and great cinematography and choreography on those crazy scenes that complement a very good story as well. Don't let anyone spoil the surprises, not even here [watch for alerts!].

I can't believe it! One of the best summers for movies in a long while. First Superman Returns and now Dead Man's Chest. I'm confident both will conquer box offices.

Also, great new Disney logo. Modern but still inherently Disney with that classic touch. It's perfect.
What would this wretched world be like without Disney?

Wow, well when was the LAST time you heard of a movie with early midnight screenings - the first I heard of this was the other night driving through Bellflower California (a city 15 miles southeast of Los Angeles) and saw a theater that said they were having a midnight showing. So there must be some huge demand expected by the theater chains to do this type of special showing. So was the theater crowded?

I have not wanted to read the reviews and spoil the movie.

I am going to a screening at the El Capitan this Saturday - a whole group of us from my pirate crew - first we are having dinner at El Capitan and then going to the 8:30pm screening. Supposedly its sold out (no surprise there) many from my group are dressing up (err, as pirates!) but I don't know if I, will depending on how hot it will be tomorrow.

Went to the midnight screening of "Pirates II" and all I can say is:

CRITICS BE DAMNED!!!!

THIS MOVIE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

Sure there a similarities to the first one, but that is why they call it a sequel. Johnny Depp IS Capt. Jack Sparrow. And Bill Nighy might give the little ones nightmares with his portrayal of Davy Jones, but I found this movie to be one of the best two and a half hours I have spent in a theater in quite some time.

The plot is totally predictable, but who cares!! It is Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp. C'mon folks, this is great movie-making and to have all the players from the first movie here just makes it that much more enjoyable.

I found a lack of humor to be the only point of interest. It seems that there were several places in the film where some humorous things could have been said or done, that weren't, but that being said, this movie has all the makings of being the summer blockbuster we are all hoping for.

Predictions by critics of 'doom and gloom' for a sequel have been overshadowed by a movie that moves at a break-neck pace and offers us an open-ended climax that makes us want more - and that we will get next May when "Pirates III World's End" hits the theaters.

Watch out summer, Disney is going to rule the box office as never before. "Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest" is a bonafide hit, and the box office figures are going to prove it once and for all.

I have my free ticket, and I plan to go with several friends next week. I've heard from several people that it is a very enjoyable sequel. Everyone I've talked to seems to love the new logo. I've also been told to stick around after the credits.

I can't wait to see this!!!

I saw the midnight showing and I was blown away. That was the fastest 2 and a half hours I have ever spent on a movie! The theater was PACKED (I wouldn't have been surprised if it was sold out) and there were people in pirate hats and in complete pirate uniform. When the movie opened, everyone cheered and clapped when it was over.

The movie was fantastic. I won't give away any spoilers, but Jack Sparrow was just as loveable as he was in the first and the story was very compelling. The action sequences were great and there was humor in all of the right places, with plenty of references to the first film. I know some critics were crying about the length, but I wouldn't have cut anything out. Every minute was devoted to telling the story.

For those of you planning to see it, stay through the credits, they do show a clip at the very end that you probably don't want to miss. It doesn't involve the fate of Jack Sparrow, but another character, if you could call it that :).

I liked the sequel. Nothing earth shattering but it was good. I liked the "crackin' at the end it seemed very life like. Im assuming they incorperated actual shots of octopus' arms in it. My boyfriend actually got seperated from me because the theatre was so packed so we didnt stay till the end because he was all mopey because he had to sit alone.

I am going to go see Pirates 2 tomorrow, and I was wondering what to expect. The critics don't seem to be to happy with it, but then again, I dont really agree with their tastes of a good movie. Anyway, do you all think it is as good as the first? Should I heed the critics warning?
