New Disney Movie Club Exclusives

According to the recent mailing, the following DVDs have been added to the Exclusives:

Zorro Season One Volume One (Episodes one through eight)
Zorro Season One Volume Two (Episodes nine through sixteen)
The Story of Robin Hood
Kidnapped

There currently appear to be 17 DVDs altogether that are exclusive, the four listed above, and the following titles: A Tiger Walks, The Bluegrass Special, Yellowstone Cubs, Jumping Ship, Smart House, The Horse Without a Head, DuckTales the Movie, Geppetto, Mail to the Chief, A Knight in Camelot, Rocketman, Shipwrecked, and Tall Tale.

I am interested in Kidnapped and Robin Hood, but the DMC isn't really the way to go for me considering that I hate full frame when wide screen is availabe. Any chances this might show up on Ebay?

I think there's been some cases where as long as you pay for the movie and shipping someone in the club will buy it and ship it to you. I would make a request for someone to help you out in the trade section or this forum.

Robin Hood was created in the Academy Ratio--so you don't need to worry about that, it will be in its proper ratio. (Very good movie, by the way.)

I have viewed Kidnapped several times on VHS and I am convinced it is open matte so at least you don't have part of the picture cut off.

I am so excited about these releases. I will buy all these films immediately. I want to buy all the live-action films from Walt's era and I love Zorro!

Edit: I looked up Zorro in my book and apparently there were two full seasons of Zorro. (There are later sporadic episodes that were on Walt Disney Presents.) In these two seasons there were a total of 78 episodes! That means there were 39 episodes each season (if both seasons had the same number of episodes). It will take 5 volumes just to finish releasing season one of Zorro. Just thought I would share...

Is Zorro the black and White version?

Sadly, the mailing doesn't say. The cover pictured on the mailing is slightly colorized, but since it's a cover (and not a screenshot), it is hard to say. I sincerely hope they are not colorized!

P.S. I just called the Disney Movie Club to ask this very question. The official word from a friendly employee named Lindsey is.... "We don't know." There you have it--direct from the horse's mouth. Be sure to pass the word to all your friends.

P.P.S. Sorry, that was a bit rude. She did apologize for not knowing and promised to try to find out as soon as possible. So, we need to either order them sight unseen and report back to the group, or deluge them with phone calls on this very subject.

I suspect that they are, like the Region 2 French DVDs, colorized. Which is lame. Maybe they'll surprise me. Still, at least the entire series could be coming in this fashion, which is better than random episodes route taken for "Elfego Baca" and "Swamp Fox." Another plus is that this move illustrates that "Zorro" DVDs <i>can</i> be sold in the US. Hopefully, a box set eventually comes to general retail.

I'm actually kind of angry about this announcement .... this is a real slap in the face to those of us who have resisted joining the Disney movie club simply because we already have most of the Disney DVDs we're interested in. I was looking forward to Zorro becoming available, and hoping that it would be soon, but now you have to join this club in order to get it? How greedy can Disney get?? Sorry but this is unfair.

I think this is a great way for them to release these shows it is not a slap in the face but more or less a reason to join the club you cna join the club at any time and just fulfil your membership with DVD Exclusives this what I have done because like you said I usually already have all the DVD's before they are available in the club with these ones it is definatly the way to go. So click on the link from this formu and help support the site and Disney so they will continue to find ways to make more available to us.

I have to disagree with you Papa Bear ... I'm all for supporting this website when I find links to new items that become available, but I dislike having to join a club and being OBLIGATED to get something ... like I said, I've purchased numerous Disney DVDs, and they know this from my registration of such ... I think I've already adequately demonstrated my commitment.

I got all 4 new exclusives 2 days ago. I watched Kidnapped and The Story of Robin Hood. Robin Hood was better, but they were both good films. Once again, there are no chapter selections, but this time you can skip the WWOD opening and go straight to the films. The features don't look so bad considdering they haven't undergone a restoration. Robin Hood looked worse than Kidnapped, but it's older so that makes sense. The menus have music from the film playing.

I watched the first episode of Zorro last night. It is in color. The colorization doesn't look as bad as The Absent Minded Professor or The Shaggy Dog to me, but it makes everything look like it was filmed on the cheapest set ever. In the opening scene with Don Luego on a ship, there are mountains in the background. They are a solid pine green with no texture and the sky is a kick your ass blue. That was the only time the colorization bothered me. I do wish Disney had released it in Black and White, but I got so wraped up in the episode that it didn't matter. This is a really good show. I never got into it when it was on Vault Disney, but now I wish they would just release the whole set instead of individual volumes.

I have received the films also. While A Tiger Walks had an impressive picture, Robin Hood had relatively poor picture. There was apparently no remastering work done since its last release on VHS. Robin Hood is bothersome because the picture is so dirty. The lush forest is a dirty blur. It is a shame that such a wonderful film was given such lousy treatment.

Kidnapped has also not been improved since its VHS release.

The Zorro shows are awesome. I am up to episode 7 now. I never had the Disney Channel when I was a kid but when there was a free preview I always watched this show. The series was set us like a serial. Each episode builds upon the previous episode. The show is very impressive.

I looked again at my Disney book to try to determine what episodes were utilized in The Sign of Zorro. I believe all the episodes that were used are on volume 1 and 2 of Season 1. I can't wait for that film to be released (hopefully in black-and-white). Anyway, if anyone is interested I can post what episodes are included in the film.
