Any nature buffs here-animal moved into my yard (pix)

Post by Fidget1234 »

Im very curious to know what has moved into my front yard recently, & if anyone can help me find out what it is by the info i have- i would appreciate it so Shane & I will know how to handle trapping it.

Ok- so like last week or so I woke up to find this BIG UGLY hole in my yard & a huge mound of dirt. Now the yard is ugly.
Shane tryed filling it back up after the 2nd day or so- but whatever it is, that is digging/living- made it worse.

The hole is about 8-9 inches in diameter & it kinda CURVES into the ground & looks deep!

I haven't seen what it is yet, & I have yet to find the "back exit" hole- if there even is one- not sure, i havent seen any other holes.
There are some paw prints in the dirt- but hard to make it out- the paw prints look longer & slimmer then a cats.

We've recently seen a skunk eating out of our garbage & running into our garage and have smelled skunk spray a few mornings . Now- I REALLY hope it's not a skunk- can they dig a hole that big & deep?

Ok- here are the pix. If anyone has any info on what it may be & how to trap it- please, i would def appreciate it...i dont want to kill it or call an exterminator- i want to keep this as humane as possible. thanks.

Lookit what it's done to my lawn! my poor lawn! Neighbors are asking me what happened.

Image
compared to a foot- look at the size of the opening- & it then curves to the right & looks deep & dark!

i thought it might be a woodchuck. I hope its just that. Then if i get a trap for it- i dont need to worry about it spraying like a skunk would.

My boss says its a mole- but it must be a pretty BIG mole- that hole is HUGE for a little guy like that.

Looks like it could be a rabbit hole.

I would think that it would be a mole, but I'm not positive

Looks like a mole, but I could be wrong.

I'm not sure how you would go about setting up a trap for it. You might want to call a local animal control or shelter to find out how to trap it without hurting the animal. They may even allow you to use one of their traps to catch the animal, or tell you somewhere you can pickup a trap to use.

Can a little mole really make that BIG of a mess?
It's a pretty big hole for a little guy like that.

I think I'll give the refudge a call & see what they can reccomend...
I dont want to hurt whatever is living there- but i do want it OUT.

I'm sure that if it is a mole, that he/she need a BUNCH of space to roll around in the dirt
