What Movie Did You Just Watch? (Now Enhanced with FastPlay!)

I taped the 1956 live-action Anastasia off AMC the other day and watched it earlier. It wasn't quite as enjoyable as the cartoon(but I expected that), but it was still a great movie.

Yesterday, I watched 'The Aristocats' in the morning. It was my second viewing of the movie since I had rented it a couple of years earlier.

In the evening, with my father, we watched 'Pride and Prejudice', the latest instalment featuring Knightly as the lead actress.

I had never before seen or read Pride and Prejudice, and though I enjoyed the movie, I found it terribly difficult to follow.

At times I was totally confused and not sure what to make out of Darcy and Elizabeth. I attribute this to the fact that sometimes I don't hear properly, and seem to miss out on important dialogue during movies. I liked the performance of Judi Dench in this movie, which reminded me of the quenn in 'Shakespear in Love'. Who can mistake her?

The Bicycle Thief (1948 - Italy): Impoverished man gets job that requires bicycle, but the bicycle is stolen from him. The intense search by the man and his dedicated son for the bike throughout the streets of Rome serves as the basis for the film. It may not sound like much, but it is one of the most exciting and intense film experiences you'll have. A great way of tackling a social issue by making it a human drama. A real heartbreaker. I watched Congo, excellent thriller! I also watched Behind Enemy Lines. You would never think that Owen Wilson would do such a serious roll but he actually does it pretty well.

I must be turning to the dark side here; I saw Over the Hedge tonight since it opened this week in England. I know that it may have been made by the "terrible" Dreamworks company, but seriously, this movie is pretty good. It's got some great social commentary as well, which I think all should listen to.

I watched Lilo and Stitch for the 1st time on ABC. It was really cute, but it's not going to be one of my favorites. I really wanted to rent Sleeping Beauty(is it even rentable?) since I haven't seen it but the Movie Gallery was going out of business and if they did have it somebody bought it already. I guess I'll have to see if I can get a Blockbuster account.

Double Life of Veronique (1991 - Poland/France): The late Krzysztof Kieslowski's last film before the Three Colours Trilogy (he died in 1996), it is certainly one of the most loved. Irène Jacob is stunningly beautiful in the dual role of Veronika/Veronique, as is the photography and music that goes with it. A visual and audio treat, that gets better the more you watch it.

Alien Autopsy

I really enjoyed this. I can't understand the panning it got when it was released. Its the "true" story behind the famous "Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction" from 1995, and this alone is facinating to watch.

It's claimed that there was an authentic alien autopsy film, but it was damaged and thus, the two "discoverers" made their own. Not so much a lie, but a re-make! But then they had other problems, from the US govenment to insane and ultra violent gangsters.

Ant and Dec do well in the lead roles, filling the film with their boyish charm, while the supporting roles are peformed well. Special mention must go to Harry Dean Stanton as the original US Army cameraman. Its a light bouncy film, that sets out to amuse, and does so - even if it's a more gentle comedy rather than laugh out loud moments.

Considering some of the cinematic dross that gets average reviews, its a shame this was attacked so much on its release. Yes, its more like a TV movie than a theatrical one, but it does what it sets out to do in spades.

<b>Star Wars</b> (aka <b>Episode IV: A New Hope</b>) and <b>Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith</b>....for the fiftieth time in a month. As much as I love Star Wars (well, the original trilogy at least), these repeat viewings are starting to make me sick. I'm writing a huge final paper for my film studies class and I'm leaving no stone unturned during my analysis. I'm almost finished, but the last mile is always the hardest mile....
