Thomas Newman did a fantastic job with the score as you mentioned.Squirrel wrote:I got it for 20 dollars at Borders Bookstore (yesteday morning; they said I was the first one to purchase it, but I was also the first one there, basically. LOL.) It is a beautiful film. The best of Pixar, I think, and the best 3D film yet...
The musical score is lovely, and I hope Thomas Newman finally wins the Academy Award for this one (and I predict he will). The cinematography, though there was no camera, so to speak, was so good...along with the sound editing and all other technical aspects.
(Personally, I find this film is much easier to appreciate and be in awe of, on a technical, visual level, than it is to love. It's slick, but lacks something untouchable and organic. But that's just me...)
My favorite moments: the Field Trip bit, where they skirt over the reef, and Nemo goes, "Whoa," and the piano fills the background as Mr. Ray swerves over the seaweed and sends the fish scattering. Marvelous. The jellyfish forest. The surfing turtles.
I'm a pretty big score buff actually.
Thomas Newman provided some really good scores for The GReen Mile and Shawshank Redemption as well. Not sure right off the bat what other family films he's done.
I also love Randy Newman's scores for James and the Giant Peach and the other Pixar films.
And the not quite as popular but just as great David Newman who scored The Brave Little Toaster. Why in the world isn't there a soundtrack available for that!??! Those songs are so memorable and the score is heart felt.
