I don't know if I should so this

Post by Disney Lover »

Ok, if you saw my one post from before you know that I recently got a second job at Toys R Us (along with my other job of TJ Maxx). Well my mom found out that they are hiring for the front desk at her work at the Marriott. Now I am unsure if I should try for this job. I want to get into more office type work and this would help that I would think. Plus, it would pay more than what I'm getting at either retail job. I was telling my parents and my brother and my brother went on about how I should make up my mind. And all this other nonesense.

So, should I at least try?

In the words of a small green muppet: "Do or do not, there is no try".

I say go for it. A hotel has to put you in a better position than a retail store, and even if the customers are just as demanding, there won't be as many coveniently located faux-weapons to jam down a screaming child's throat. Sorry, did I type that or think that?

Seriously though, I think you may as well apply. The pay probably IS better, and I would imagine it would open a few more doors than Toys R Us. More skills to notch on your belt, especially if you want to work in an office environment.

Plus, it would probably look far better on a CV for the future!

My advice is to apply for the job, go to the interview, and then wait until you are actually hired before fretting over quitting your other job(s). :tink:

I also think you should go for it. There's no good reason not to at least apply and it's always a good idea to at least leave opportunities open as possibilities.

As someone with 20+ years in the hospitality industry, I would say that you should definitely go for the Marriott job. The opportunities for advancement are incredible, not to mention the travel benefits of working for Marriott. Please feel free to email or PM me if you would like to discuss further.
