I do hope this schedule is correct, I can't wait until they release Bambi on DVD, it would be really cool to have both Bambi and Cinderella released on 2005. Wish a "The Rescuers - Special Edition" would appear on the list, but, oh well, I'll need more signatures...*** Its weird that they announced Mary Poppins on the Lion King DVD and not Alice if it is going to be released much later, though...

All looks good, except it would seem as though there are plans to delay the Treasures until May next year for various reasons (as discussed elsewhere on this board).
Shame, but I guess we'll have to live with all those other releases until then

Brother Bear.
Glad it's being released in March. Can't wait! And the Lilo & Stitch special edition, too (in May)! Very eager for both of those, definitely.
And Home on the Range in October.
I'll end up getting Aladdin, too. I'm very much anticipating Bambi, though it's over a year way. I haven't seen it in several years...but have fond memories of it. It will be wonderful to have it on DVD.
A lot of good releases for the next year. I'm excited.
LOL. I fear I've drowned my post with smilies...

Here's hoping for Mulan Special Edition
Hopefully in 2005. I thought the Platinum's were one per year, so how can Bambi and Cinderella release in one year?
I wonder why Disney didn't make Sleeping Beauty a Platinum Edition?! Yes The Rescuers, Black Cauldron, and Aristocats all deserve special editions!!

Actually, the two platinums a year and a platinum SB have both been confirmed. From the "Release Types" section of the site:
"On May 1, 2003, Disney announced a change in their release schedule for the Platinum Collection. Previously, Disney released one Platinum Edition DVD set a year (each fall) and put the title on moratorium the end of the following January, where it would remain for ten years. Their new plan calls for TWO Platinum Edition DVD sets a year (one in March, one in October), so that all titles will be released by 2007. In addition, the moratorium periods will now be just five years.
The Platinum Collection was originally comprised of Disney's 10 best-selling home video titles: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, Bambi, The Jungle Book, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp and 101 Dalmatians. In May of 2003, Disney announced they would be adding Pinocchio, Fantasia, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty to the Platinum Collection for a total of 14 titles. The Platinum Edition releases are even superior to their Collector's Edition releases for new movies, devoted to the ultimate video and audio, and a plethora of extras. "

Oh yeah, I just realized that however you replied so quickly, that I didn't get a chance to edit my comments.Disneykid wrote:Actually, the two platinums a year and a platinum SB have both been confirmed. From the "Release Types" section...

Another Sleeping Beauty, sounds a bit ridiculous to me. I don't know if I can continue to deal with more superior editions being released. How much more can do they with SB?!

Don't forget The Fox and the Hound, if it wasn't for this movie, we probably wouldn't even have Luke nor Ultimate Disney...Atlantis wrote: I wonder why Disney didn't make Sleeping Beauty a Platinum Edition?! Yes The Rescuers, Black Cauldron, and Aristocats all deserve special editions!!

Anyway, The Fox and the Hound really deserves a Special Edition... I don't know about the Black Cauldron...

Yeah, I know. There's not much you can add to the current SE. Like 2099 said in another thread, I expect the platinum Sleeping Beauty to actually be worse than the SE because they're going to want to appeal to everyone meaning more games and fluff and less substance.Atlantis wrote:Another Sleeping Beauty, sounds a bit ridiculous to me. Agreed! Although knowing crazy me, I will want it anyway. You're right about the appeal and games. I suppose more Princess Games and some sort of virtual 3-d Castle playground, etc.Disneykid wrote:Yeah, I know. There's not much you can add to the current SE. The Rescuers deserves to be Platium or at least Special Edition it's a great film also the Rescuers Down Under should be Special Edition at least.

I think The Rescuers Down Under is more underrated than The Rescuers. (And I like it better. It's my second favorite Disney film, after Lilo & Stitch.) I think this because...not only did it open opposite Home Alone (I belive it did, anyway), which made upwards 280 million, but it got sandwiched between The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, and unlike both of those, was not a musical...
I like both, but love the sequel more. Just because of the romantic sub-plot (Bernard trying to propose to Bianca), the flight scene with Marahute and Cody, the brighter, warmer...and more defined colors and shapes and everything (as opposed to the sketchier look of the original; though I understand that was their style at the time, and do like it). Jake and Wilbur. Oh, and Bruce Broughton's noble and elegant, romantic score.
They should just release both as special editions.
But, again, I'm so glad they're going ahead with the SE Lilo & Stitch. And I'm glad Brother Bear will be on DVD as soon as March (as opposed to waiting for summer). Next year looks to be a good year for Disney DVD's!

And in another email from Disney quoted somewhere on this site, Disney reveal that they consider this release of Sleeping Beauty to be the Platinum Edition.Atlantis wrote:Oh yeah, I just realized that however you replied so quickly, that I didn't get a chance to edit my comments.Disneykid wrote:Actually, the two platinums a year and a platinum SB have both been confirmed. Another Sleeping Beauty, sounds a bit ridiculous to me. I don't know if I can continue to deal with more superior editions being released. How much more can do they with SB?!
That makes sense, why would they wait to add more content from the international releases (such as the commentary, trailers and the Platinum Edition traditional "re-mix" of a Disney classic song) if they knew that they'd be adding more to a future release in a few years time? Why even release a 2-disc set in the first place? Some of Europe only got a single disc release and even the UK got a single disc edition 10 months before the 2 disc set. How often to studios upgrade a 2 disc release to another 2 disc release?
If they do release a Platinum Edition branded Sleeping Beauty, I'd expect the discs to be exactly the same as this release.
I'll use the "Chewbacca Defense" against Disney releasing a different Sleeping Beauty PE in the future: IT MAKES NO SENSE
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
