Yay! I've been wanting to hear the demo for ages! This musical has been talked about for so long....yet there hasn't really been access to the demo. This is so making my day.

Thank you very much for posting the site for the songs. I think all of them are really amazing, especially "If Only." They definitely add a lot to a story that we all know so well. Can't wait to actually see it on stage!

THANK YOU!!
Those songs are beautiful. I can't wait until this show gets released! I was planning on a holiday to NY to try and see Tarzan, but now I think I'll wait and time to trip so I can see TLM as well!
It sounds fantastic, so let's hope the show delivers as well. And if it does, I'll be ready for Aladdin asap afterwards! Then my top three Disney films (TLM, B+B, Al) will have been done on Broadway and I can die happy

I second that! I really liked that demo on myspace. I haven't gotten a chance to hear the rest. "If Only" sounds like a great duet, but what puzzles me is that Ariel is mute at this part of the story. Are we assuming she's thinking what's being sung? Is that part going to be a voice over while the actress simply sits and smiles? I'm very curious as to how they will accomplish this and also what the under the sea scenes will look like (that's probably what that costume and movement lab is for, Disney Duster). Anyhow, I'm glad that they let her sing. It'd be weird to have the title character mute for half of a broadway show. Like how Sleeping Beauty is asleep half of the movie.DisneyVillains wrote:Thank you very much for posting the site for the songs. I think all of them are really amazing, especially "If Only." I believe it's Alan Menken with Glenn Slater (whom he worked with on Home on the Range).Billy Moon wrote:Who's doing the lyrics? Dare I hope it's Tim Rice?
Tim Rice would have been nice (after Aladdin and the B&B Musical), but listening to those songs I have no problem with Slater.
I'm guessing that the songs were written in much the same way the Menken/Rice songs were for Aladdin (and I presume the B&B Musical) with Menken writing rough lyrics he feels fit with his and Ashman's work and then the two of them refining them into a finished song.

VanessaFan's music videos
Well, VBFevers I mean VanessaFan(
), the video with your version of the wedding("Crash") caught my eye, but I didn't get how "Ursula wins". I also didn't understand why you had the shell necklace fly through the air after Ariel became a mermaid...
I did watch some of the other videos, and I must say I like the slow motion wedding and just about all of your songs in every video! My favorite video(well, second to "All Good Things Must End") is probably the "Mermaid Clips" one. The scenes are brought into a whole new light with every video, though. You really have interesting ideas and had me looking at the scenes in a different way. Something particularly struck me at the end of the wedding in slow-motion. Those birds flying around the priest...I never realized their expressions! Very nice job on all!

About Ursula wins is that she holds Ariel capture, while Flotsam & Jetsam comes with Eric!
And thanks for the comment about my ideas!

Re: VanessaFan's music videos
Well, some of the birds look dazed from flying around at such a crazy speed, and then they look like they really want to attack Vanessa...but it's weird because it's not like they have any real reason to hate her. I guess Scuttle told them, with his squawking, that this lady in white(Vanessa) was harming one of his friends(Ariel), and the birds just got into it because they were helping Scuttle...but it's still weird.VanessaFan wrote:I don't know those blue birds looks so angry in front of the priest..?I mean the didn't have anything to do with Vanessa, since she just was attacked by starfish..?
And now I get how Ursula wins...

I finally had the chance to listen to the demos last night. Some of them were quite nice.
I loved it how "Daughters of Triton" was extended, and how "Poor Unfortunate Souls" was reprised in the scene where Ursula transforms. I was hoping for more songs based on the film score melodies, like the previous Broadway shows have had - I was especially hoping for a version of the Jig.
It sounds like Ursula is going to be younger and slimmer than in the film... One reason could be that the same actress could easily play her before and after the transformation. As for Ariel's singing while she's mute, it would work beautifully on film, but I don't know how convinsingly the voice over thing can be done on stage... Maybe it'll work, we'll see.
I thought she sounded more like Liz Callaway, and in the song "Beyond My Wildest Dreams", I could have sworn the singer was Susan Egan...skyler888 wrote:Neat the gril that sings ariels part sounds alot like jodie benson.

Premiere of The Little Mermaid the Musical
I realize this isn't a movie, but it seems relevant. The Little Mermaid musical will debut next summer (exact date TBA) in Denver, the same location that The Lion King debuted so many years ago. It will include the original songs from the movie, as well as 9 new ones, all written by Alan Menken. So for all of you who happen to live in that part of the country, less than a year till you get to see it! The rest of us will live off the PE in a couple weeks for now.

I didn't know about this! I was hoping (I think I even heard) that they were making one for Hunchback. I think that one is an amazing musical. Of course, the Little Mermaid is a particular fave of mine, but that's partly because of my obsession with Ariel, ha. Myself, I've only seen 3 Broadway type shows (none actually in Broadway, ha). I saw the touring versions of Beauty and the Beast, which just blew me away, and The Music Man. I also saw "We Will Rock You" when I was in London. I enjoyed them all, but "We Will Rock You" was a bit odd, even though I love Queen, ha. Anyway, I definitely hope this is a hit and that I get to see it someday!
