Nintendo DS Lite (or the regular version...)

Post by littlefuzzy »

I just got my DS Lite this week, and I am loving it!!!

I already had about 10 games in preparation for the DS Lite, and I managed to find Trauma Center: Under the Knife last night! :pink:

I have tried to get the games that are considered good, but getting hard to find, and so far, I have:
  • Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - 21 bucks used
  • Feel the Magic: XY/XX - $5 new
  • Lost in Blue $20? new
  • Metroid Prime: Hunters - First Hunt Demo - I found this in a GBA case I bought...
  • Metroid Prime Pinball w/ rumble pak - $20 new
  • Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits - $7.50 or $15 new, I can't remember which...
  • Nanostray - probably $20-25, and I don't know if it was new or not.
  • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - $30 new :o
  • Picto-Chat (built-in)
  • Puyo Pop Fever $7.50-$15, see Mr. Driller... :P
  • Sprung - $1.99 new!!! This is pretty fun, although some may hate it.
  • Trace Memory - $15 used or so, I think.
  • Trauma Center: Under the Knife - $30 new :o
I really hate paying $30-35 for a new handheld game, or $40-50 for a console game, but sometimes it is a matter of getting it now at that price, or never finding it again...

I have been playing Mr. Driller and Sprung, and I got to try a bit of Trauma Center. I also tried a bit of the Metroid Prime demo.

What games have you played that are fun on this system?

I have the original silver one, since I just had to have it as soon as it came out. xP

The games I have for it are:

Super Mario 64 DS
Nintendogs: Chihuahua and Friends
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
Animal Crossing: Wild World

Yeah, I generally stick to Nintendo.

My favorite game of the ones I have is definitely Animal Crossing. For anyone who likes simulation games, I can't recommend it enough. :3

As for the others, Super Mario 64 isn't much different from the one for the N64, but if you've never played the original then it is fun, Nintendogs is cute but gets old quickly, and I loved Mario & Luigi, though it's rather easy.

Nintendo DS Small?

Post by Disney Duster »

I understand that the difference between the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo DS Lite is that it's smaller and lighter, as this says:

"Nintendo President Satoru Iwata today announced Nintendo DS Lite, a slimmer version of the best-selling Nintendo DS™. Also featuring brighter screens, Nintendo DS Lite will launch in Japan in March. Nintendo DS Lite will be less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter."

It's supposed to also have brighter screens, and I think that is a good thing, and I'm okay with the system being thinner and thus weighing less, but what do they mean by smaller?

Does that mean everything is smaller, even the screen? Because if it does, why would anyone want a smaller screen? I wouldn't! I'd want a bigger one that shows more detail! The smaller something is, the harder it is to detail it. Does anyone know if the screen is smaller? Or the controls? Because I don't think the controls should be smaller either. That would make it harder to...well, control the game.

The screen size is not supposed to be smaller. In fact, every review for the DS Lite, that I've read, states that this is a great improvement. The screen is easier to see, because it is brighter, the controls are better, and the stylus is much better. So, it looks like the changes are all for the better. I have been wanting to get my hands on one, but, I think I'll wait until Christmas rolls around, and put it on my Christmas list. Unless I win the lottery, before then.

The screen is around the same size its just brighter, not sure on the controls they are probably similar. From all the screenshots I've looked at the Lite screen is a big improvement over the original DS.

I really want to get one, but its going to have to wait. Hopefully I can pickup one in a few months.

A little off topic, but have any stores started to take pre-orders for the Wii yet?

I've heard reports that the battery lasts longer (if you have it on a lower brightness, which is still brighter than the old one.)

I've also heard that the wi-fi component is stronger... more range, etc.

I've got the old DS, but I hardly ever play on it anymore, so much so that I've traded all my DS games in, and only have about 4 GBA games left. I'd trade it in at my local Gamestation but the trade price is only about £40, and it has no dead pixels or faults, so I'm keeping it incase I ever want it again.

As for the DS Lite, I'm annoyed with all the improvements, as these are things that Nintendo could've done to the original console, but I understand that Nintendo is a business, and by remodeling their console, they can gain interest, it still sucks though.

Disney Duster's Nintendo DS Games

Post by Disney Duster »

Thank you very much MadonnasManOne, DarthPrime, and littlefuzzy for helping me figure out the differences between Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite. I guess they really made a lot of big improvements! Now I'm a little unhappy that my Nintendo DS isn't as good as the Nintendo DS Lite...but oh well, I still love my Nintendo DS!

I'm surprised no one's listed any Disney games for their game system. I have three games, and two of them are Disney titles:

Mario Kart DS
Disney's Cinderella: Magical Dreams
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

Doesn't anyone have any Disney games for their Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS...or Nintendo DS Lite?

I have a Monster's INC. game for my Gameboy Color, but I don't use that anymore.

The DS Lite has a smaller D-pad and the start and select buttons have moved to the right hand side. The A, B, X, and Y buttons feel closer together, though I haven't found anyone else to agree.

As for the games, I have a few and am desperately searching for a few.

Games I have:

Kim Possible: Kimmunicator
Trace Memory
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
The New Super Mario Brothers

Games I am looking for:

Phoenix Witlaw: Ace Attorney
Trauma Center: Under the Knife

Games I still need to pick up:

Mario Kart DS
Animal Crossing Wild World
"It's Kind Of Fun To Do The Impossible"
- Walt Disney

Sorry to dig this topic out of the grave, but I have a few questions. I'm becoming increasingly interested in getting a DS Lite, but was wondering if it is worth it. I already have the SP, but would it be worth to upgrade? And if I do, has there been anything about a newer model of the DS that's coming soon? I would also like to know if there are any "packs" or starter kits that includes like the charger extra styli (I think that's right) and other things like that. And is it a safe bet that the price will stay $129.99? Thanks if anyone could help me with my questions.

Since DS can play SP games, just sell your SP and you can use some of your money towards the DS. And yes, there are plenty of starter kits available.

That's a good idea PPf. Do you know how much a SP goes for? I looked at the Amazon Marketplace and they're around $45-$55, but on eBay they're going for a varity of prices.

I heard a rumor once that they might eventually drop the GBA slot on the DS Lite, but I don't think that will ever happen. I think they are coming from the same place that said the Wii might eventually support DVD playback. I doubt that will happen unless we see a Wii Lite released later.

I really think the DS Lite will stay the way it is, until Nintendo releases another hand held system. The price will really depend on if the PSP can start to gain some ground. Better games are coming out now, but I don't think it will beat the DS. If it gets any lower it would be about $99.99, so your pretty safe to go ahead and pick one up.

If you pick one up I highly suggest New Super Mario Bros., and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

I don't use my DS a lot, but it came with 2 stylus, and the battery lasts forever. Just remember to charge it like it says to in the manual the first time and you should be good to go. It comes with a charger that you plug in to the wall. I'm not sure if there is a car charger or not, but you might need one if your planning to take it on a long trip.
