I can't tell, but I hope that they aren't, because I'm building up my DVD collection, and my dad said that we aren't upgrading to Blu-Ray, so I'm hoping for DVD, for a looooooooooong time! :D

I think it's too early to tell, have to wait and see how well HD and Blue-ray does. I have lots of DVD's so I hope they just make those for a lot longer, but as long as I have a T.V. and a DVD player or atleast a player that plays my DVD's, I'll be fine.

i heard that hd dvd players can play your original dvds. so that might be a sign that they won't be obsolete for some time.

Yeah that's all that really matters to me, they can bring HD DVD or Blu-ray, but as long as I can still watch my DVDs on newer systems I'll be a happy camper! :D

I think the answer to your question(or at least for a while) is no.

I don't think people will be fast to replace DVD's as they were with VHS. Especially with t.v. shows. Are people really going to pay another $20-$40 dollars on a season of a t.v. show they already have just to see with slightly better picture quailty?

Ten years is kind of soon so I would say no. I will definitely not be upgrading my dvd collection. First, I would need to buy a new television and a new player.

I made the switch to DVD much earlier than a lot of people did, but this time the upgrade isn't as major as the transition from VHS to DVD was. I don't see a reason for me to upgrade anytime soon, so I'll wait until I absolutely must. Obsoletion won't be a problem as long as there's backwards-compatible HD/Blu-Ray players.
