In that article they say that Lion King is the 3rd bestseller for disney, I would have thought it was number 1. I wonder what the other two are, Fantasia is probably one because everyone bought that when it came out in 1991. Does anyone know?

What planet do they live on? The Lion King isn't just Disney's #1 selling VHS ever, it's THE #1 selling VHS ever, period. Tut tut...idiotic folks...sigh..

(On second thought, maybe mean in the UK, but I doubt it. Even if they do, it's probably still the #1 VHS there too.)

Actually I believe "The Little Mermaid" is the best selling Disney title in the UK. Not sure what number 2 is though. Probably one of the two Platinums that have been released to date, "Snow White" or "Beauty and the Beast" as it's an extra release to add to the figures.

As far as I can tell "The Lion King" in the UK has only had 1 limited time VHS release (although as far as I can tell, the same is true for "The Little Mermaid", but it did have a "Limited Issue" DVD release as well, but I gather the number of discs produced for this were relatively low).

The Little Mermaid has had two VHS release's so far. The second one came out in 1998 and had been Digitaly remaster and instead of "Under the Sea" on the end titles I think it had Peter Andre with his version of "Kiss the Girl", ewwwwwwwwww :P

That must explain it... unless someone can tell me that there's been two releases of The Lion King in the UK too. :)

No, the first five films on the original Platinum list (Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Aladdin and Bambi) have only been released once on video in the UK, although of course Snow and Beauty have been released twice now.

What's interesting about the UK press release on rereading is that no mention is made of a single disc version.

This will be the first time a Disney double disc set will be available in the UK without a "family edition" single disc version!

I think they must have the confindence that Lion King will sell even if it is a 2-disc. Actually I think it will as well.

That gives me hope for the eventual Australian release (announced for mid-November, the 11th I think).
However, I already have the box set on order from the US - I don't think we will be getting that, and I can't pass up that opportunity...
Can't come fast enough though!
