I don't see why AFI didn't pick Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or Beauty and the Beast. IMHO, these two movies are better, and have a better message that Pinocchio.

Just what inspiring message does Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or Beauty and the Beast have in your opinion.
Pinnochio because it covers everything a young boy can dream of. It also shows you what happens when you lie, skip school, and don't mind your parental unit. The challenges that face a young boy who wants to prove that he truly belongs are a lot more inspiring to me than what ever message can be found in "Snow White" or "Beauty/Beast".

Beauty and the Beast has a great and simple message! Beauty is found on the inside. What's on the inside that counts. Also, that love conquers all. Well Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs doesn't have that great of a message, but Beauty and the Beast does.

While I don't hate AFI as others on this site do, I'll agree that the last couple to three lists they've done have left something to be desired. But I'm not sure what to say about this one.
Were they trying to get movies with inspiring messages? Movies that had characters so inspiring you wanted to "cheer" for them? Or just great movies that were generally inspiring because of their quality?
Well, I am truely glad that Pinocchio(my favorite Disney film from the "Walt-era") got on the list. Though, a shame The Lion King didn't make it. If that last scene where Simba walks up "Pride Rock" isn't considered "inspiring", tell me what? Man, the chance my 2 favorite Disney movies can make a "100 Greatest list", yet, only one makes it. How unfair!!!
But then again, this is AFI, and they can't have "too many Disney films".

Dang, I missed this. Oh well, looking over the list, it doesn't sound like I missed much, even if I'm a fan of movie clip shows. AFI's run out of ideas for these lists. And the "100 Years" part of their titles stopped making sense shortly after it was introduced. Sure, nothing before the '20s will make any of these lists (and even those are unlikely), but motion pictures have been around for longer than 100 years now.
"Fifteen years from now, when people are talking about 3-D, they will talk about the business before 'Monsters vs. Aliens' and the business after 'Monsters vs. Aliens.' It's the line in the sand." - Greg Foster, IMAX chairman and president
