[ouch] I Just Learned Life Lesson #729

Post by indianajdp »

Always...no...NEVER stick your finger in your nose after handling HOT Red Chili Peppers  :(

My left nostril feels like it's being ravaged by a pack of wolves on a fresh kill. And I think it's even inflamed a bit.

...and please, no e-mails asking why my finger was even in my left nostril. Some things need to remain private.

Since you asked ....

I once downed a golfball-sized portion of wasabi in one gulp. For $20.
Bad things usually happen when you get a bunch of college buddies together and I'm usually the one that does something stupid. The terms of this bet were that I had to chew it up and swallow it with NO water for two minutes.

It hurt.

The next summer I was offered $100 to do it again for about the same portion but I turned that one down. We were on a bachelor party weekend in Chicago and had too much fun stuff planned for me to risk being incapacitated :D

Mustard-type "spice".
It is used to make a green paste that is served with Sushi and can add some serious punch to your meal.

It doesn't burn the mouth, rather, it hits you in waves thru the sinus cavities.

Oh,I've heard of that.Wasabi was a main ingredient in Round 5's food(a very long sushi)on the Fox special "The Food Bowl"(or,whatever it was called). Most of them either passed or dropped out, because of the spicy level. The winner took 13 mins. to win(ate 3/4th's of it,because everyone else gave up).

not that this would ever be useful, but you can increase your tolerance level for wasabi by downing large quantities when you have a cold and your sinuses are too clogged to know the difference.

that way you can impress people with your ability to consume large quantities of this stuff. . .

this is an example of the terrible things i learned from my ex, the frat boy.

I learned Life Lesson #728 a couple months ago - never snort garlic powder up your nose. It hurts like a mutha. :D
Life often leaves us standing bare, naked and dejected with a lost opportunity. Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words: "Too late."

Believe me, I have an insane tolerance for this and most other hot spices. I regularly chop up dried red chilis and put them in/on anything and everything, from omelettes to chicken breasts. I order some of my food "Thai Hot" which is off-the-menu. When it comes to wasabi I don't bother stirring it in the soy sause like most people do. I just plunk it right down on top of the role.

The only thing that's really kicked my ass was the day I downed a whole Habenero...3 chomps and down the hatch. I was a naive 22 year-old and didn't know what the hell I was getting into.
