Good news, but the cover art for Witch Mountain looks cheaper than a fan boy photoshop job.

I LOVE The Brave Little Toaster! Yes! I can finally upgrade my VHS!

That was a TV movie, wasn't it?
What would this wretched world be like without Disney?

Eh, I've noticed most of the Vault Disney/"Special Edition" ones DO. But insider, they rock. :D

I can't wait I have been waiting "Apple Dumpling Gang", "Escape to Witch Mountain" and "Return to Witch Mountain" to come to DVD and it looks like Disney is going to make them worth the wait. I just hope that "Escape to Witch Mountain" is in it's full form I rented a copy of it on VHS last week that had edited out the sequence where they are playing in there room with the Marionettes which as far as I can rember there is no reason for it to have been edited. But after watching it I looked on the case and it said the film was 94 minutes and in Lenord Maltin's book he says it is 97 minutes. The VHS was a real old like from the first release of the VHS movies, and I know I have seen a copy of it with that sequence included so I am not real sure why they did not have it on that video. But regardless I can't wait.

Great news. I'll be definitely getting the 3 Special Editions. Great classic Disney live action films that are getting the proper treatment. I've no interest in the "Toaster" series. Just not my cup of tea.

LUKE youve made my day!!! :) re apple dumpling gang and escape to witch mountain; I predicted a few weeks ago in a forum that they COULD qualify as s.editions- I had no idea at the time that they WOULD qualify as special editions. After the love bug and 20;000 leagues Im very excited about this. I believe the original freaky friday is being groomed as a special edition as well. The special editions rock!!!!!!!!

That really is good news!
And here I was thinking I wouldn't have anything to blow my money on before Xmas...
Actually, it means I should finally get around to buying some of those Vault Disney and the two recent Vault-Disney-That-Are-Not-Vault-Disney DVDs.
Just ordered Parent Trap (finally!), with a few others. Have to reacquaint myself with these new releases at the video shop. Have seen them all at some stage, just have trouble remembering anything before last week...

Good news. But I like the animated movies more than these life action films. So I hope if these three life action films who are not so popular like the animated films the three SEs in January (Lilo, Alice & Pocahontas) will be 2 Disc Sets, too. I wouln't (even more) understand Disney if not.

Greetings
Phil

Theres a good chance some of the upcoming animated re-releases will be 2 disc special editions : :D
Re the live action special editions- there is a particular innocent charm to some of the pre 1980 disney films-certainly they will be appreciated by anyone who has read or owns books like Leonard Maltins - The Disney Films. (Although he only reviews films that walt personally produced up until 1967) Even in the 70's movies like The Apple Dumpling Gang were decidedly old fashioned- but somehow a refreshing welcome relief. Though not really heavy on sophistication for those who like disney nostalgia Its nice to be able to add these to the collection. The 70's disney live action movies were heavy on slapstick. The Apple Dumpling Gang was definately one of the better offerings and I think even surprised disney as being one of there few hits of that era, also plays as a nice homage as well as satire on the western genre'.
However I do hope they do dig just a little deeper in the vault -fingers crossed for a Darby O Gill 2 disc special edition.

Absolutely! That is the one I've been waiting for since they have started these sets.
Watched it recently on video and it has lost none of the charm it had for me as a kid.
Can't wait...

Totally Cool! I've wanted to see The brave Little toaster for years and the Witch Mountain films are amongst the few disney live action movies I watched and enjoyed as a kid.

maybe if they release darby o'gill on 2 disc dvd they could put the walt disney presents episode of "i captured the king of the leprachauns". and a cool making of documentary that is on all the SE. hey, Sean connery is still alive he could host the dang thing, or at least be featured in the documentary.
speaking of, i wonder what the escape to witch mountain kids have been up to. it'll be neat to see them all grown up and remeniscing about the movie in the special edition documentaries. definitely looking forward to all of them
and for that matter both tim conway and don knotts are still alive for documentaries and what about the dumpling gang kids and oh i'm getting too excited to early. !!!!!!!!! :o

Yeah, it's really great that Disney is getting these great supplements together for their older films while their parties are still alive. (Would have been nice to get input from someone like Robert Stevenson had they gotten to him while he was alive, or he had lived longer. Or even someone more recently deceased, like David Tomlinson.)

But anyway, I do hope that

1) the Freaky Friday SE is still in the works (the description that used to be on the Disney VHS page has been removed)
2) that Freaky Friday and Mary Poppins get the full treatment with input from Dick Van Dyke, Julie Andrews, Glynis Johns, Karen Doltrice, Jodie Foster, and Barbara Harris.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to these ones as well.
I've been holding off upgrading my VHS copy of Mary Poppins until I find out if there is more concrete evidence about this SE, which do doubt will surface in the near future.
If they put the same amount of care into these films as they have with the other Vault/Vault-That-Are-Not-Vaults, then we are in for some fantastic DVDs.

Bad News On Witch Mountain

Post by Trojan Mouse »

Just talked to the guy who prepared all of the supplements for the Witch Mountain titles. He had a ton of great stuff for two disc sets. Unfortunately, Disney went on the cheap and each set will be single disc stripped down editions, despite the content that he prepared! :x

........single disc???? Oh Oh, I knew it was too good to last. While Im happy that we are getting special editions, could this be the nail in the coffin for the exceptional vault disney-s.e series? :? ... Im a bit suspicious about disney taking out the brief blurb on freaky friday s.e recently (on the official site) perhaps the 'hours of bonus footage has been drastically trimmed!? Well at least they wont be foolscreen, but proud owners of old yeller, parent trap, and 20;000 leagues Im sure will all agree that the 2 disc treatment really was something special lets hope it hasnt been completely abandoned.

i hope this "stripped down copy" isn't in response to sales from love bug, because that was their own fault. please say it isn't so and we will be getting a two disc set. i think i'll call that 1-800 number on the dvds and let them know my concern. if we all do the same maybe disney will change its mind before it's too late....
