Heroin is So Passe (aka Best Live Bands)
Ok, my first time starting a thread like this so I'm a little scared. Be gentle.
I went and saw the Dandy Warhols last night, and they just blew the roof off. I've seen them twice before and they are always good.
It got me thinking though: I go to live gigs at least once a month (twice on average), but am seeing about 5 in the next 3 weeks.
How many of you go and see live gigs on a regular basis?
If so, what are your all time favourite live artists/bands?
Who would you most like to see live?
People I have enjoyed the most over the years (in some semblance of order, but not really):
You Am I (and Tim Roger solo)
The White Stripes
Rocket Science
Beck
The Dandy Warhols
Jason Mraz
Powderfinger
Tool
Neil Finn
Dallas Crane
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
New Order
Foo Fighters
There have been many more, but these I've enjoyed the most.
People I would KILL to see if they ever tour our fair shores:
David Bowie
Radiohead
Paul McCartney

I can't believe you never saw Men at Work perform live!
I rarely (read: never) go to music concerts, but I figured your thread deserved at least one reply!

Yes, I was very lucky to see New Order TWICE actually. Early last year they toured here, and I was RIGHT UP THE FRONT for the solo show. Peter Hook (i.e. Hooky) was giving me death stares all night. Classic.indianajdp wrote:Damn, Loomis...you got to see New Order live![]()

I haven't been to a ton of shows in my day, but the best of teh best have been:
A sentimental favorite: REM
I also saw them at Big Day Out - Australia's biggest music festival - the same week, but from a bit further away (i.e the back of a stadium).
I'd REALLY love to see REM someday, indiana. Hopefully, they will tour here soon.
STASHONE - you get to see Radiohead. I'm sooooo jealous.

Well, I have less to be jealous about now. Got tickets to Radiohead on Monday. Very excited.Loomis wrote: STASHONE - you get to see Radiohead. I'm sooooo jealous.
And this I just want to scream from the rooftops, and this was the first place I thought of (a little sad really).
I GOT TICKETS TO DAVID BOWIE!!!!
Really good ones too....
I think I'll be able to die happy after this (although I'd rather not).
Ok, meaningless to everyone else. But as I said, I had some rooftop screaming in me, and I thought here would be better than getting arrested.
(And I've just finished my second degree at uni, so I'm all graduated and stuff sorta too. Big week.).

Not only did I get to see them and it was truly one of the most incredibly amazing live performances Ive ever been to, but Kid Koala (whom I've previously met through local dj/producer Sixtoo - friendly with and have sponsored various shows), kicked off the opening and surprisingly recognized me and came down to say hi after his set. We spoke for a bit and I picked up his new Basin Street Blues 12" which is a ridiculous single since I already have the album on cd, and while we were chatting... I actually got to say whatsup to Tom Yorke which was extremely cool!!! I have to say, I felt like a teenage girl at a Justin Timberlake concert... and I've supported maany artists at local concerts/shows on a much smaller scale, but this was just incredible! It was such a fun concert and the energy from the crowd was amazing! If you ever get a chance to see Radiohead live - Do it!! It's a little pricey, but it's definitely worth every penny!Loomis wrote: STASHONE - you get to see Radiohead. I'm sooooo jealous.

I kicked myself that I didn't go when they toured last year, Basil. But I think I'd rather remember them as they were rather than as they are....BasilOfBakerStreet427 wrote:I would really like to see The Rolling Stones.
Oh, and Stash - I do "get a chance to see Radiohead live" - April next year! Very excited...but not as excited as I am about Bowie (which was even pricier, but he is my god).

Does You Am I ever tour the states? I found a copy of Deliverance at a local store (one of the lamest stores in the area, so I'm doubly impressed), and it rocks my world.
Best live shows so far:
Hank III
Chris Issak (I know that sounds wimpy, but he's hi-freakin'-larious live)
Morrissey (up to the point when he got pissy because people kept requesting Smiths songs and ended the show without an encore)
Henry Rollins spoken word,
AND...the best show I have ever seen in all my 25 years:
St. Thomas of Waits during the Mule Variations tour.
(and I'd love to see the Stones - they're still the bestest, raunchiest, down & dirty rock & roll band in the world.

Yay! Converting the masses to You Am I!Inga Tu Schmista wrote:Does You Am I ever tour the states? I found a copy of Deliverance at a local store (one of the lamest stores in the area, so I'm doubly impressed), and it rocks my world.
They've done quite a few tours of the US over the years (recently with the Strokes I think, who supported You Am I when they toured locally). They are currently touring here, and they had plans to tour the US in November (with The Thrills, I'm told), but that was cancelled due to lack of record company support. They have now split with their label, and are striking out with the own label so keep your eyes peeled for a new announcement. Live is really the best way to experience You Am I.
As for records, if you can get the others on import (or at the very least the best of CD or DVD'Cream and the Crock') really check it out. Deliverance is great, but they have done even better over the years...
Also check out the excellent http://www.youami.net/ for live info, mp3s (of live stuff) and other such things...Also there is officialsite.
(Is it obvious I think they are the greatest rock band in the world?)

Gee, Loomis, I don't know...you're only quoting them in your .sig file -- that might give someone the impression you like them just a little...(Is it obvious I think they are the greatest rock band in the world?)
Thanks for the heads-up on the websites and such - I'll keep an eye out for them up here in Cheesecurds and Beer land.
