Disney Treasures 2004 possibles?

Post by canon »

Not sure if this has been brought up before on this forum, but does anybody have any insight or thoughts about the 4th wave of Disney Treasures in 2004? I know that the 3rd wave is nary upon us, but I love these series, and would love to know if anyone has heard anything.

just curious!

Thanks,
c.

Welcome to the forum, canon.

This is actually quite a popular topic, and we have discussed it a few times (but being the great speculators we are, we are always happy to speculate a little more).

We have discussed it recently here and most comprehensively here, but I think our leading information points to Mickey Mouse B&W2; Mickey Mouse Club; Complete Pluto and A Compilation set.
However, since then there has been talks of MMC being shelved due to rights issues, and the compilation stuff coming out elsewhere. A second Donald tin is likely based on the sale figures of this years Donald tin.
Hope this helps a little, but although we trust our insider implicitly (they have never steered us wrong before), I guess we won't know for certain until this time next year.

Anyways, once again welcome :)

The only ones that are "known" are MMinBW 2 and True-Life Adventues. I'm hoping Silly Symphonies 2 may be added. I also hear Zorro is possible. But it's still up in the air for now.

I'm confused about MMiBW 2, because the back of the package says "from his landmark debut in 1928's Steamboat Willie to the last of his black and white shorts, Mickey's Service Station, in 1935". Are there more? I thought that MMiBW was all of them. :?

Thanks.

No, the B/W contains about half of the Black and White shorts. Bit is does contain the first (however you wish to class it - either Plane Crazy or Steamboat Willie) and the last (production wise, if not release wise). So the blurb is correct, if misleading.

Here is a list of all the Mickey Mouse Shorts. Note that all cartoons upto The Band Concert are Black and White. After The Band Concert, only the subsequent cartoons Mickey's Service Station and Mickey's Kangaroo are also Black and White.

There's some debate over some of the colour shorts - especially some of the later Mickey/Pluto cartoons. Also Modern Inventions (Donald's first solo cartoon) was technically a Mickey Mouse cartoon when it was first released, even though Mickey himself doesn't actually appear. This is because Disney only has Mickey Mouse or Silly Symphony title cards at the time. The opening has now been revised to have a Donald Duck title card and is officially classed as a Donald Duck cartoon now.

I would love to see, and own... :) on DISNEY TREASURES the following:

- SILLY SYMPHONIES, VOL. 2
- THE COMPLETE PLUTO
- THE ANIMATED SHORT FILMS -probably this would take, at least, 2 or 3 tin boxes, with cartoons, chronologically, that don't involve necessarily the popular Disney menagerie-

This, of course, is only my own idea. I'll keep my fingers crossed... :D

They are not so many (around 30 if you don´t count the War propaganda or educational shorts) so I think they should all have room on a TIN set!

There is not enough shorts of either Chip ´n´ Dale, Minnie or Daisy to make a set of.

Pluto´s cartoons are enough to put on ONE set.

Zorro can not be a COMPLETE set since there is too many episodes to put in. Just the FIRST SEASON takes 6 discs.

There is not more Goofy cartoons to build a set from. We only missed some educational stuff from the Complete Goofy TIN last year. Otherwise all is released already!

Mickey Mouse Club COMPLETE set is also a impossibility!

I think they CAN do a set with Pete, but that should mean that they take all already released shorts from the other TINS and release them again.
I hope not they do that.

I'd like to see more documentary approaches to the sets in the near future. For example, they could have a Disney villains set, which would mainly consist of [substantial] documentaries for example it could include:

Overview of Pete (he is the first Disney villain after all)

A 1/2 hour or longer documentary on Pete - includes his origins to Pete today (House of Mouse, Goof Troop). Possibly showing an extended family tree. Also available for viewing are:

- An Alice Short featuring Pete
- An Oswald Short featuring Pete (if the rights could be obtained)
- Steamboat Willie Short

Overview of the Fairytale Villains

A 1/2 hour or longer documentary on the villains from Disney's classic fairytales - the Wicked Witch, Cinderella's Stepmother and sisters etc. Includes origins, voice work, animating and their legacy.

- Production galleries
- Original Fairytales
- International published artwork of villains (from the original fairytales)
- Clips from films
- Voice over sound recordings

Overview of the Villains from Literature

A 1/2 hour or longer documentary on villains from Disney films taken from existing stories. Cruella, Captain Hook, Headless Horseman etc. Includes original origins, Disney Development, voice work, animating and their legacy.

- Production galleries
- Extracts from the original books
- Clips from films
- Voice over sound recordings

Overview of Modern Villains

A 1/2 hour or longer documentary on modern, Disney created villains (this would probably be the longest doc, as I expect Disney would have more to say). You get the idea by now.

- Production galleries
- Clips from films
- Voice over sound recordings

Live Action Villains

A 1/2 hour or longer documentary on live-action film villains - from Treasure Island to Holes. Yadda, Yadda, blah, blah, blah.

- clips from movies
- extended interviews with actors

Television Villains

A 1/2 hour or longer documentary on television series villains - from stuff like Gummibears, Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck etc. All the usual stuff.

- Clips from various series, perhaps a whole episode or two from a series.

Comics and Stories

A 1/2 hour or longer documentary on Disney comic strip villains, or how established villains would "crossover" into other Disney strips. Includes discussions on Carl Bank's Donald Duck strips, the Gottfredson Mickey Mouse strips (Magenta DeSpell, The Phantom Blot etc). Same as usual.

- Gallery - various comic strips.

The Nature of Villains

A 1/2 hour of longer documentary explaining how Villains fit into the traditional classical quest narrative of most stories. Also includes discussion on the format of Disney villains and how scary is acceptable for children's entertainment.

You get the idea - I think this would be a worthwhile release, and if done correctly most informative.

One Treasure set I've always thought would be cool (though I haven't heard anybody mention it) would be a set featuring films used in the theme parks. I'm not sure that there would be much of a market for it, but it would be neat to see some of the films, particularly from rides and attractions that no longer exist. I imagine getting the rights to some of these films would be difficult, as many of them had sponsors. Also, what to do about the Circlevison/Circlerama films?

I second this! It may have limited appeal, but I'd surely want it. I have been scouring the internet trying to find someone who has a copy of the WDW Resort TV. I'd love to have that on DVD. I heard that the new Resort TV no longer plays the "Have a Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, Zip-A-Dee-Day!" That was my favorite part! :(
