I have it! :)
Who cares about that anonymous zero called Ashley Something??? Who gives a **** about her??? And it would be ridiculous if she ever replaced Peter Andre-I don't care if the Americans don't even know about him, we here in R2 SHOULD receive a dvd with that video in it!!! I don't think that Jessica Hot Pants Simpson and her x-hunksband replaced Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle for "A Whole New World", BOTH versions were in the Aladdin Platinum Edition and that was really neat. Now What??? Why Disney is getting WORSE EVERY DAY????

Well actually I never said I hate her-I even mentioned her hot pants!- but I would be furious if her video ever replaced the first one with Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle. It's a matter of quality. If I wanna see hot girls I go to the beach, I don't get a Disney dvd! And yes, that old video with Peter Andre is part of my memories when TLM was first released and it's also a very nice version of the song. :)

I know one thing I'm really waiting for (On top of more info about the extra features, or ANYTHING at all about the dvd besides the same old, same old), is more information about this so called 2,000+ product line they'll be launching soon. Certainly, they must not understand I have a birthday soon and I need to create my list of demands! Heheh.
Er, ahem. *adjusts halo quickly*

But seriously now, for this HUUUGE push, this major million dollar campaign I've been hearing about, I see very little happening here. Cinderella not being my favorite princess, I wasn't paying as much attention last year to the big shebang of the PE and it's offspring of products. But am I wrong in thinking that Cinderella's PE was more.... hm... organized? Efficient? Proper? I struggle to think of a fitting description here...
It could be I'm just obsessing because Ariel's my favorite, and four months seems so soon (and yet, so far too!) But I still feel suspicious that I struggle to find any information on this so called giant campaign. C'mon, even Fairies has it's product line out, and the movie is still TBA (as far as I know)

And now I just know that because I've written this big complaint, Disney will announce something and I'll feel completely stupid... hah, but I guess I'll forget then in my glee of information, eh? *crosses fingers*

The Little Merchandise

Post by Disney Duster »

Cinderella is my favorite Disney princess, so I did pay attention to(and buy some of) the huge amount of merchandise to coincide the Cinderella Platinum Edition DVD. And I will tell you, the products to coincide with The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition DVD are going to come around the sames time Cinderella's did.

First off, a few new books came out featuring Cinderella, and they were released in late August and throughout September. I know this for a fact. The toys featuring Cinderella came out around these times as well, or a little bit after. And thesee are around the sames times Ariel will be getting her new toys and books.

You have to remember that the DVD is coming out in four months. That is a long time, actually. August and September are early enough to release toys and books. Think about it. Disney wants to reintroduce Ariel to kids, or introduce her to kids for the first time(the Limited Issue DVD has been out of print for a long time). So why would kids want to buy toys and books about this mermaid if they haven't even watched the movie and know who she is? They are slowly getting kids to be interested, but they can't do it too early.

I don't know about the toys for The Little Mermaid, but there are plenty of new books featuring Ariel schedueled for early August and September. There are some books to come out in late October, but that makes sense since children will want them more after they've seen the movie. If you want to catch the earliest new book about The Little Mermaid, you can buy Disney's Little Mermaid Original Movie Read Alongs- Singles, which is schedueled for July.

Ariel is getting more stuff than Cinderella in terms of books. Cinderella only got one special clock that came with a book, and Ariel's getting a book with a wind-up music box that makes her dance, and another book that comes with a special under the sea nightlight! I suggest you go to Amazon.com to find out what products are coming out in the future to coincide with Disney's The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition DVD.

The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Magic Adventures in Two Kingdoms

Post by Disney Duster »

You're very welcome, Ariel 1989! And, I now bring you news of even more The Little Mermaid merchandise to celebrate the new Platinum Edition DVD! Two new video games for Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS!

First is THE LITTLE MERMAID: MAGIC IN TWO KINGDOMS, due for Game Boy Advance in Fall 2006! You can play as Ariel, Flounder, Sebastian, or even Prince Eric! You unlock and solve eight games both under the sea and on land, including saving Prince Eric from the sinking ship, helping Sebastian escape from the French Chef, and foiling Ursula's evil plans!

The other new game is THE LITTLE MERMAID: ARIEL'S UNDERSEA ADVENTURE, due for Nintendo DS, also in Fall 2006! This game is very cool because it has Ariel solving a fun mystery under the sea, with familiar characters and a new surprise character! You can play through 16 different levels and 19 missions, and in the game you also get to use the DS stylus to uncover and polish sunken treasure, sing into the DS microphone to unlock clues, and play music wirelessly in the Barnacle Band with up to 5 Nintendo DS players! Click on the blue hyper-link to go to the Web site and view the trailer!

What great games to celebrate The Little Mermaid 2-Disc Special Platinum Edition DVD!

I'm not going to comment if it's a good video or not, but it definately was not done at the time of the film's original release. I think the Peter Andre video was made to promote the re-release in the late '90s. To my knowledge, there are no "original" music videos for the songs from TLM.

I just hope Disney doesn't consider this thread to be the official press release. It's hard seeing my favourite movie being neglected. But hey, it's the movie that counts, right? :P And that's coming in about 4 months!

The thing I'm hoping for the most is that the video restoration is the one they gave the film when they initially thought it would go to IMAX theaters. I want to see the image not only as sharp and pristine as possible, but also hurried and unfinished cells redrawn. That's what's really inportant for me, more than the merchandise stuff and extras.

BTW, a great example of unfinished cells can be found in the scene where Ariel and Triton argue in the beginning. When Sebastian pops out of Triton's beard, you can see him getting closer to Ariel and you see those green pages in the background almost surrealistic, the same when he says: "This concert was to be, the pinnacle of my distinguished career!", there's a green page with no shape whatsoever.

Well, that's my real hope for the DVD, that they fix it :P

What do you mean by these "green pages"?

I don't think the restoration team should alter a film by correcting mistakes that were originally there. I hated it when the dissappearing raccoon in Bambi was fixed. Restoration techniques should be used to restore an old film to look like it did originally.

That's what you think, and if you're duying to get the 345th version of the same old song it's your problem. I can see that an Ashley Rubbish version of the song does not mind you...no comments about that. As I've already said it's a matter of quality, and in quality matters there ARE originals. But,of course, you have to have a fine taste of music to understand it, it doesn't work if you've grown up with a*teens or Sclub, that's for sure. And I'm quite sure that that video of Peter Andre must have been released sooner and not in the late 90s.Or I'm just getting old and I've lost the sense of time! :)

Mistakes were made because of lack of technical ecquipment, money or time. If they could, they would have done it better and this is something that all of you mistake-lovers should understand. THOSE MISTAKES WERE DONE BY MISTAKE, WHICH OF THESE WORDS IS NOT UNDERSTANDABLE??? If you love other people's mistakes,it's your problem! :P

I totally agree... I think that if you can make a movie more beautiful than it originally was, then why not!?

I dont mind either that BaTB and TLK were re-drawn... They look better than ever now...

OK, wrong word. Here are some screen caps (and keep in mind that these caps are really dark):

And I'm glad to see some people agree with me on this. How can anyone want the mistakes to be left there? As someone said in a previous post, those mistakes were made due to budget cut, not because the original filmmakers thought it'd be prettier that way. And if today we're at a time when Disney can fix all these errors, then I think any change for the better is welcome.

The Little Mermaid backgrounds are...in the background.

Post by Disney Duster »

When you said pages, at first I thought you mean the royal kind(as in the seahorse trumpeters). Now that I see you mean the columns of the palace, they look absoluetely fine and beautiful in those screencaps. Surrealism is something Disney has used a lot. Cinderella's backgrounds were actually meant to be a little surrealistic(a great example of this is the tree-filled garden in the fairy godmother scenes). You could argue that it's not in the style of The Little Mermaid for them to look that way, but those columns are in the background and thus should be blurry and out of focus anyway!

Hmm...they look a little bit terrible, though.
