Walt Disney Home Video Promo - 1980's
I found this rare promo for Walt Disney Home Video. This was from the early 1980's where they used to promote Disney films on VHS tapes except Beta. This was long before DVD's hasn't been around yet. It featured clips from Disney films like "Mary Poppins", "Pollyanna", "Pete's Dragon", "Condorman", "Watcher and the Woods", "The Apple Dumpling Gang", "Alice In Wonderland", "The Black Hole", "The Devil and Max Devlin", "The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad", "Darby O'Gill & the Little People", "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" and many others. That brings back a lot of memories if you are a Disney fan. Watch this excellent commercial.

Thanks, Luke! If you want to see those rare logos, keep in mind that YouTube has a collection of old Disney VHS logos from the "Neon Mickey" to the current one on DVD. Those logos are part of Disney home video history. That brings back lots of memories. I missed all the original Disney home video logos for many years that featured the "Neon Mickey".Luke wrote:Pretty awesome find, musicradio77!

I find a piece with what I recognize as a "3D" or "neon" Mickey on the "Limited Gold Edition II" releases from 1985.

I remember a similar promo in The Great Movie ride pre-show at MGM,it showed a lot of different clips with rather 80's-esque music, all in a space background(yes, very 1980's) it had a space Mickey at the end if I wasn't mistaken. It did appear on some home videos, but my memory's too short...Post it here if someone has it! I would love to see it.Fidget1234 wrote:wow....

I found this promo quite puzzling. I was waiting for them to mention the Disney Animated Classics (besides Alice and Wonderland and Pooh). We didn't have all these live action videos when we were kids (our library did). We had all the Animated Classics. I'm guessing they weren't released on VHS until later??
Anyhow, that was a cool video, thank you for sharing! That neon Mickey thing was fun!

The huge wave of animated film releases didn't occur until the mid/late 1980s. Before that, in terms of huge groups, you could only really get the live action titles and the shorts and featurettes on video.Kram Nebuer wrote:I found this promo quite puzzling. I think there has been talk of a Pinocchio LASERDISC as early as 1984...?? But VHS cassettes for sale might have been later. In my little corner of the world I don't think we got Disney animation on VHS for sale until the very late 80s, and that was just a little handful of titles, and you couldn't really find them in most stores (or even in most towns, I'd imagine...). In 1991 or 92 the "regular waves" of Disney animation started - from then on people could collect the "classics".
