Sleeping Beauty R4 review - if anyone cares...

I doubt anyone would be interested in the R4 review for Sleeping Beauty at this point (given the imminent release of the R1 version with commentary), but this one is fairly comprehensive.

The Region 1 release will not be available for a few more weeks and so far I have not located an early review for it. However, from the specifications I can find for the release, it would appear that it will feature the following items not on the Region 4 release:

Three theatrical trailers
Princess personality game
Music Video - Once Upon (Another) Dream
Pan And Scan version of the film
Audio Commentary

It would appear that the Region 1 release misses out on:

dts 5.1 soundtrack
Sleeping Beauty Scrapbook
Sleeping Beauty Galleries
Notes - The 1951 Outline
Notes - The History Of The Story
Featurette - Storyboard Sequences

I'm sure all the features you list as missing will be on the R1 release - the Sleeping Beauty galleries will certainly be on, being as it is a generic name for the various character/background/concept art galleries.

The scrapbook is similar, but shows Posters, Publicity and Disneyworld pictures. I'm sure these have been mentioned in relation to the R1 release before.

The storyboard sequences are not really a featurette, they are just presented in a split screen with the final filmed animation. No introductions or explanation is given.

The 1951 outline and History of the story are a few static text pages, so I can't see these being omitted.

However the R1 is missing the DTS soundtrack. But no big deal considering the age of the film and the other supplements exclusive to R1 (I'm particularly annoyed the trailers were missed off the international editions). Of course, if the full frame version was dropped from the first disc, R1 could have DTS too.

And we've already seen captures from that, so we know those are there. I think 2099net is correct, and the only thing we'll miss out on is the DTS. Heaven forbid Disney release a Scope film only in Scope. Nonetheless, this release seems more than satisfying overall.
