Here is the artwork for Spongebob Season 4 Vol 1 releasing September 12:
I wonder what's with the sudden change of 1 less disc and half the episodes missing. Nick gone greedy? Or uneven number of episodes problem from season to season?
Season 1
41 episodes
3 discs
Season 2
39 episodes
3 discs
Season 3
21 episodes
3 discs
Season 4
20 episodes
2 discs
Edit: My bad, Thanks Lazario! I totally forgot that we're already on season 4.

I understand now! It's volume sets because there hasn't been many new episodes to release 4th season as a whole set, or that they haven't made new episodes yet.

I can't wait for this! Great cover art! Yeah Nickelodeon hasn't really showed enough episodes yet for a whole complete season like the other three volumes. Thanks for posting cover art magicalwands!

I look forward to this. I know they kinda stopped making newer episodes for a while when the movie was going on, but can't they put more effort into getting newer episodes out sooner? It seems they're doing a better job of it lately. But for some reason, it seems we haven't gotten a lot of episodes that are out on the 3 seasons we have now, but that just could be my imagination (and I do have a pretty wild one).
How many episodes were in Season 4? This release is fabulous news indeed, it's been awhile since Season 3 was released, but... unless Season 4 had up to 25% more episodes than Seasons 1-3, this sounds like a bit of a money-grubbing scam.
Anyway, I think this will be the last full-season I get on DVD (one day). I'm also not getting this until Volume 2 is released, is itself a 2-disc set, and this Volume 1 set has almost the same exact number of episode halfs the other 3 sets had. This still sounds fishy to me.

That's very strange - that means this 4th season has lasted nearly 2 years. Season 1 was '99-00, 2 was '00-01, 3 was '02-03, so now this makes '04 - ... 06?! No one from the cast died, did they?

When the movie was being made, they made only 6 or so new episodes to show, so they could focus on the movie. Then after the movie, they started slowly, but surely, making and airing new episodes.
That's an interesting double-edged question. On the one hand, I see this film's critical reviews couldn't stop the legions of fans from going to the theater to watch it (which didn't stop The Real World movie from going down in flames). On the other hand, if no one in the respectable critical field appreciates their work, what was it worth? Money doesn't always equal respect.

Well, whether critics appreicated the movie or not, I doubt that affected how long it took to draw the movie (and a hand-drawn one at that!) frame by frame. The film didn't seem to hurt the show's popularity at all, and the film made a significant amount at the Box Office (however, I could have seen it doing more). So basically, just because the film wasn't up to standard, doesn't mean that they worked any less hard on it.
