Ebert and Roeper give Cars two thumbs up.

I just had my new Ebert and Roeper podcast downloaded. Both gave the film thumbs up. They both seemed to love the movie, Roeper especially.

Very good news! But then again, they go easier when grading films, I think, unless there really is something wrong with the movie.

Remember they gave unworthy "Big Thumbs Up" to Finding Nemo. And Roper even gave "thumbs up" to SharkTale but "thumbs down" to Wallace and Gromit.

I was at the world premiere the other day.....cars was a pretty good movie, by far not the best pixar film, but i enjoyed it. the animation was amazing though....with out the doubt the best they've done.

you have to remember that these are only two guys opinions. you can't judge how successful a movie will be by Ebert and Roeper. After all they both gave RV thumbs down and yet it's been doing very well from what i understand.

I think i'm going to like it though. I've enjoyed every Pixar film so i don't see why i would't like this one.

I don't care what critics say, whether it is Ebert and Roeper, or any so-called critics (i.e. Prince Eric, etc.). I have seen this movie and think that Pixar has hit another home run with it. The story, the animation, the characters, and especially with the top-rate voice-overs. The cast is great, the one-liners come at you a mile-a-minute, and it has a very warm heart-warming story.

Actually they gave it Two Big Thumbs Up which is higher rating then they gave all of the other Pixar films and even all of the Animated Classics made after The Lion King. Personally, I definetely would rank FN as Pixar's worst film. Since it's surprising how "original" critics claim Pixar to be, yet Finding Nemo could easily be renamed to "Pixar's Greatest Hits".

Unfortunately though, pretty much every CG film turns out successful, critics or no critics(SharkTale anyone?).

Ebert and Roeper gives thumbs up to all Disney films and most animated films from Warner Brothers, Dreamworks and others.

But I know Ebert didn't like Land Before Time....

I never really listen to the critics. If I want to see them movie, then I'll go and see it. If I don't like it, then I won't buy the DVD, if I do then I'll get the DVD the first day it comes out. The critics are just dumb, stupid people who get payed to say "Thumbs Up" or "Thumbs Down". Well, they all aren't dumb, stupid people, but I just don't listen to them. I am very excited about Cars, but since I don't have much $$, I'll just have to get the DVD. I am pretty sure that I will want it. The only Pixar movie that I've seen in theaters was Finding Nemo, and I got the DVD for Christmas, and I bought all of the others, so I think I will enjoy Cars, even though I would like to see it in theaters, but that's okay, I had to wait to see the others.

I pretty much judge if a movie is good or not myself, then use critic's reviews as assurance. I am pretty confident Cars is going to be good, but this assured me.

Ehh, while Ebert and Roeper I guess do "grade easier", they do judge hard at times.

Roeper actually gaves thumbs down to "Pirates of the Caribbean" all because it was a few a mintues over 2 hours(which is ridiculous). He even said he enjoyed most of it.

Well sorry to double post, but since this thread is kinda like the "critics reaction to Cars" thread, just want to let ya guys know Cars is finally getting ratings onRotten Tomatoes. It's a 100% Fresh so far with only 6 reviews. C'mon critics, get those bad reviews coming in and make Cars "rotten".

Also, you can hear what Ebert and Roeper think of Cars through that link as well. So this small bump isn't entirely pointless.

T/P Fan, you're almost sounding fanatical with your dislike of Pixar!

As you and others know, I wasn't impressed with Finding Nemo and while I enjoyed The Incredibles greatly I at least recognised its origins. But I still wouldn't call either a bad film. (Although I think FN is only just above average).

In fact, my biggest complaint about The Incredibles isn't the similarity of the story/characters to Marvel's Fantastic Four but the character designs for the women, who were much to thin and, IMHO, a another example of unhealthly thin woman being presented as being desirable by the media leading to young girls gaining eating disorders to try to emulate their look. (I know, comics present the same slim women too, but the stylised nature of the designs in The Incredibles makes it more blatant).

I also do not have much enthusiasm for Cars (at this time). However, I don't want Cars (or any other film) to be a 'bad' film. We get enough of them already. I hope Cars is a success. Heck, I even hope Pirates of the Caribbean II and III are a success, even though these again stir no excitement within me.

I'm glad to see it get two big thumbs up! Believe it or not, a lot of people read reviews, especially by Ebert and Roeper - and for them to say they LOVED the movie - it will make this movie all that much more successful.

And they do judge some movies harshly - such as National Treasure, Chicken Little, and Ice Age: The Meltdown - ALL of which got two thumbs down!

Why would you hope for such a thing? It almost sounds like some twisted jealousy of Pixar.

OT: Pirates was more than a few minutes over 2 hours, mate. It was 143 minutes long, and unless you count 23 as a 'few' minutes, then you're wrong.

BiT: Ebert and Roeper can actually be pretty harsh, especially family films. For them to give Cars a big thumbs up and call it Pixar's best is pretty big.
