In 1997 when Disney re-released "The Little Mermaid", in most of the countries, the movie was re-dubbed: in some (such as my country, Brazil) only the singing voices were changed, in other countries they have changed ALL voices, they re-dubbed the intire movie.
Do you think that Disney will include BOTH versions on the international DVD's, even if the original version is in 2.0 and not 5.1 sound?
I think that Disney should do it because, independent of which version is better, a lot of people were used to the original dubbing in their countries. It's really sad when you are used to a voice in the movie and suddenly they change it...

I'm not sure what the trend has been there, but Disney's Platinum Editions in the US tend to use either new or newer dubs (and mastered to 5.1). What have they done for <i>Aladdin</i> and <i>The Lion King</i>? That should clue you in as to what you can likely expect. Do you ever get an older dubbing when more than one exists? If not, that's got to be annoying for you. Heck I'm annoyed by the easy-to-avoid "Morning Report" sequence and subtle changes in <i>The Lion King</i> and those only affect tiny portions of it.
Sorry my answer isn't much help. I'm definitely not the most knowledgeable person around when it comes to Disney's DVDs outside of Region 1.

thankfully this was not the case for the dutch version, of wich the the dubbed 1990 original is absolutely one of the best dubbed version of any Disney films here.
For other countries I doubt two version will be included as most people are not aware of this and do not care most of the time. Only true fans do.

I doubt that too. For example, for Cinderella there were two Dutch dubbings. The newest dubbing was used for the DVD. It's funny that the actress Carry Tefsen dubbed the stepmother in the first version, while she dubbed Drizella in the second version. I don't mind which dubbings are included on a DVD, because I always watch the original version.

But for the new Platinum DVD release, the ORIGINAL dubbing came back, at least in Italy and in Brazil, they took off the new dubbing and repleaced it for the original version. I think that in other countries this may be happened too.

In the German duckfilm.de Forum we have big discussions about that aim right now. Buena Vista Switzerland has confirmed to me, that only the new version will be on the DVD - and this desicion comes from Burbank directly. An no (yes, absolutly no) German fan is fine with that idea. We want the old version, because it is one of the best dubbings of Disney ever!
So I'd like to ask you: What can we do against the will of Disney Burbank (if we can do something). We are the customers and it would only be fair, if Disney puts both versions on the DVD (besides the English). But I can't live with the new German edition.

Oh, don't even talk me about it. Here in Brazil the same thing happens, luckly only Ariel's singing voice has changed, but this was enough to make Little Mermaid fans mad over here! That's SO difficult to include both dubbings on the DVD?
