It is? I didn't know that. I really don't think that that's fair, I think that you can call any pet by what you want. Just shoot and kill those people that told you you can't, make a new law, and................. Oh wait, you probably wouldn't want to change his name. Oh welldvdjunkie wrote:Also have an absolutely beautiful Nanday Conure Parrot, since we are in Kansas it is against the rules to name your dog Toto......

What law can be more worse than this? I have a friend named Spike and he wasn't annoyed about my pet dog's name...it's a good thing I don't live in Brazil.A Brazilian legislator wants to make it illegal to give pets names that are common among people. Federal congressman Reinaldo Santos e Silva proposed the law after psychologists suggested that some children may get depressed when they learn they share their first name with someone's pet, said Damarias Alves, a spokeswoman for Silva.
"Names have importance," said Alves. The congressman "wants to challenge people's assumptions that it's acceptable to give animals human names," she said.
If the law is passed, pet stores and veterinary clinics would be required to display a sign noting the prohibition of human first names for pets.
Brazilians who break the law would be subject to fines or community service.
Alves admitted the law's chances of passage were slim but said Silva hoped the bill would call attention to his other efforts to protect animals.
"He's proposed many laws to protect wildlife in Brazil, but this is the only one that has ever gotten any attention," Alves said.
Anyways, I've read this law thingy just now and the date was all the way back on October 2004, so i don't know if this is still implemented.
Are human names on pet animals really THAT bad?

I have a friend whose daughter is named Bailey and she is not upset that my cat shares the same name. I have another friend who only chooses "human" names for her cats(Jasmine, Ricky, Bobby, Chloe, Sammy, and Howie) and I think it's fine. A name does mean something and my pets are a part of my family and their names were chosen just for them.

I'd have a hard time following it. My pets are so special to me. Besides, there are so many different names out there that unless it's Fluffy or Spot or something like that it's hard to tell if it's a "human" name or not. Like I said I love all my pets. Other than the ones that were already named, we chose each name for them. It took me forever to think of Bailey's name, but once I heard it I knew it was for her.
Spike originally had a "pet" name. It was Bruno, but it never really took. After my father-in-law named the girl pup Angel we went with Spike(we are all Buffy/Angel fans).

I have three cats - Spice (10 year old male), Tiger (5 year old male), and Dori (2 year old female).
We also have four gerbils and a rat.
And....on Thursday - we're bringing home our eight-week old male Chocolate Lab - Rocky! I've been waiting over ten years to get a dog, and couldn't because I used to rent....I am way too excited for this.

I visited Kansas last October because I now have family who lives there. It was out of this world how much Wizard of Oz merchandising they do there - I mean....the first thing I saw when I got off the plane was an airport store selling copies of the book! Kinda cool, cause I love the Wizard of Oz.dvdjunkie wrote: It is not a real law, it is just a thing in Kansas with the whole Wizard of Oz thing. Haha! "Kittie" is definitely a name that's exactly the opposite of your cat's attitude. If I have a cat like that, I don't know if I will still keep it. You must be a patient guy keeping a non-stop killing machine like that at your home!bambifan56 wrote:I have a fat Welch Corgi named Katie and a Stupid black cat named "Kittie"...That cat does some of the weirdest stuff, it kills every living creature in the yard and bites my toes while i'm asleep..stupid cat!

Well, we have another cat. She's solid white with bright yellow eyes. She's only five months old. My husband had a job at an animal hospital and he saw this little cat in a cage at the back of the room. He asked about her....she was born with her hind legs backwards. The girl working there said she came in to work one morning and she was sitting in a cage at the door. She was just a wee little kitten. They've been trying to adopt her out but no one wanted her. One lady working there told my hubby the cat grossed her out. Anyway, they were going to give her two more weeks and then put her to sleep. She's healthy, they gave her shots, no fleas, ear mites, or worms. She can run and jump. She can get up on the sofa and climb the stairs. She's doing well. We might not haved "needed" another cat but my husband couldn't stand the thought of her being put to sleep before even having a chance. She's been in a cage her whole life. So there you have it. Oh and I got to name this one. Her name is Sophie.

My cat, ___________ (insert name/nickname from choices on page 1) kills everything. In total, of what we know, he has eaten, literally eaten, 2 birds, the feathers were sticking out of his teeth, 1 snake, after he killed it, he sat on it, what a weird cat, and he almost killed a little bunny. He was carry the bunny by it's neck, in his teeth, and viciously shaking the poor little creature around. Finally, once we heard the bunny's squeaking, my dad yelled at him, the bunny got out of my cat's mouth, and ran for it's life. My cat is so weird

My aunt & uncle have a cat that's a hunter. He'll kill just about anything that moves....rabbits, squirrels, moles...you name it. The biggest problem is he brings them to the front porch to show off what he's done. It bothers my aunt a lot. At least they don't have a rodent problem.
My other uncle has a red tail boa named AL(after Married with Children
). He's fine as long as he's not shedding or hungry. Before he went to Kosovo he had a Burmese Python named Baby. She was huge. He donated her to the Topeka zoo. His snakes are okay, just not the kind of pet for me.
Now my sister in law was going to get a tarantula. She had a baby recently and decided against it. I was glad too. I'd have a hard time being in her home knowing a big hairy spider loomed nearby. I'm terrified of spiders. Snakes I can handle. Mice I can handle. Spiders I cannot.

My aunt also has a huge python named Betty. She doesn't almost move even if you touch her with a stick in her cage. She eats birds...the feathers in her cage is absolutely a nasty sight.
She also has an unnamed iguana. She collects different kinds of reptiles...except crocodiles and alligators, of course!
