AND THAT ART IS HORRIBLE. Yes, the content rocks but whoever did that cover should be fired. They should have used the Bugs in Tuxedos one

2099net, how can you like those shorts from 1964 onwards? I think some of them are alright (Daffy's Diner being one) but many are just dull, lifeless and are a waste of time and money.
On a completely different note, for your Looney Tunes website why not just use the plot synopsis from Jerry Becks Looney tunes book, it would be much quiker than writting your own.
I like most of the post-1964 shorts. They aren't very good, but I still like them. I wish I could see "Injun Trouble" (1969) and "The Door" (1968). I have never seen these in any form. Also many of the Daffy/Speedy's, because CN is as stupid enough to think Speedy is offensive.

The Premeire set is not worth your money. IT WON'T CONTAIN THE SPECIAL FEATURES! Just the cartoons from Discs 3 & 4 from The Golden collection, not the special features.

Here's some good news. The BBFC has just started to classfiy the Golden Collection supplements, meaning a UK (and possible Austrailan) release is on the cards soon!

Did you hear people are disapointed because Warner Bros didn't want to release all the best in one set? What were they thinking? If that happened, there wouldn't any other good sets.

Brief Review
Why Disney Collectors should get this set.

I've been busy this week, but I've managed to see enough of the Looney Tunes set and supplements to know that this will be an essential purchase for most people on this forum.

Too start off with, these cartoons themselves are excellent. The restoration as well, appears to be a proper restoration – none of the digital processing has been used to remove dirt and spots which were obviously present on the original prints. So unlike the over clinical "restorations" of many films when released on DVD, it feels as if we are seeing the cartoons as shown in the cinema's originally. I give the actual cartoons a 10/10 for picture. Sadly, the sound doesn't seem to be as clear on some of the cartoons, but I've no doubt Warners have done their best. Excellent.

Now onto the supplements – most of the commentaries are unimpressive. Sad but true. Still some of them seem to have information worth digging out. I'll watch more of these later. I've not listened to a music only track yet, but I'm sure these will be fantastic.

The Behind the Toons Supplements are all new, and feature lots of vox pops from creators, historians and critics. Of interest to Disney collectors will be appearances by Don Hann, Leonard Maltin and Eric Goldberg. Some of these on the background of the characters are short, distracting interludes, while others – such as the Carl Stalling featurette are required viewing.

There are also a number of longer documentaries – the first two discs have a documentary by John Canemaker split into two. This was made in the 70's and benefits from having interviews with Looney Tunes creators long since passed away, and also the bonus of seeing a very youthful Canemaker (with pitch black hair!) This is a very good documentary, and is classed by some as the pick of the supplements.

However, my pick of the supplements is "The Lost Cartoons" and hour long documentary that actually includes two full Looney Tunes cartoons, as well as clips from many others. Included in full is the first ever Merry Melody (created as a competitor to Disney's Silly Symphonies) and featuring the character Foxy. Created by ex-Disney animators and directed by Isling, another ex-Disney employee) it's fascinating to see how much this shot looks like a Mickey Mouse cartoon – everything from the design of Foxy and his Lady, to the dancing of the inanimate objects echoes the early black and white Mickey shorts. Also included in full is a US Draft cartoon featuring a grown-up Ralf Phillips. All in all, this Documentary almost plays like a mini-Behind the Front Lines release - a lot of the "lost" cartoons are from the war.

There's a lot more, I haven't seen – including another hour long documentary on the 4th disc. But I have to say that all-in-all, this set puts the Disney Treasures to shame. Mickey Mouse in Living Colour Vol 2 seems to have more supplements than any other Treasures set… let's see if it can match Warners inaugural effort.
