I disagree. I believe Miyazaki's forte is fantasy, however I believe Takahata's forte is realism.

sooo overrated. But not as much as Kiki. Terrible movie.
You're a towel!
Whatever Dave, you haven't seen POTC all the way through!

As for Kiki, okay, I'm sorry castle, I just didn't like it.

GOTF's story is maybe a bit too dark for animation.

Takahata and Miyazaki co-founded Ghibli. Takahata is just older, being the reason why he hasn't made a feature in years.

wouldn't that make The Nightmare Before Christmas' story a little to dark, or the Black Cauldron, or Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

The Black Cauldron was a fantasy. TNBC was a gothic whimsyfest. And Roger Rabbit was just wacky.

Grave of the Fireflies was an ultra-depressing story with absolutely no redeeming elements of hope.

It's a fun movie. I enjoyed it, which is much more than I can say for Grave of the fireflies.

The Cat Returns

BTW, though I voted for its elimination earlier this round, I love Kiki -- it's like an animated Frank Capra film, but better.
