About the new TV on DVD titles: Desperate, Grey's, Lost, etc

Post by 2099net »

Well, looks like the decline of DVD as a respected way of presenting and peserving film and TV footage is continuing at great speed. Nice to know the marketing department at Buena Vista Home Entertainment thinks everyone is a complete retard. Do they think that as soon as something becomes 'mainstream' the average I.Q. of the consumer base drops to mid double figures?

It saddens be, because the discs themselves are likely to be good solid presentations with a wide range of supplements. However, no matter how good the actual discs are, they will forever be tarnished as crass thanks to their cover sub-titles. "Extra Juicy Edition"? Are these people on drugs? Do they even think that such a title is remotely appealling?

Only Lost seems to be coming out of this debarcle with integrity. Thanks to the clout of the producers and their respect for the fan base I expect.

I think those are just promotional titles to sell it, I don't think your DVD will say that.

Remember BVHE changing the wording of Scrubs & The Golden Girls for better print? I think this is another instance, so Amazon.com can display that, shops can but your DVD will be nicer.

The art is also just a mock-up (although I think replacing the m with a c is more true ;))

I'm sure that when we see the actual pictures of the box they will look decent. The only cover art I trully HATE is the Commander-in-Chief art, but thats the only one Im not gonna buy so I dont care. I do wish they would have picked a different color for Lost S2, The orangish brown just doesnt work. The Desperate Housewives cover just needs a photo of the girls on the spine instead of that apple. And the only complaint I have with Grey's Anatomy isnt related to the S2 Set. I just still need the S1 slipcover so it will match next to S2.

These are the boxes in case you didnt see:

I think the artwork may change. It will almost certainly have a smaller typeface on the final artwork, but I fear the silly subtitles will remain. Or have you forgotten about the recent BVHE DVD releases?

Well I didn't like the artwork for Commander in Chief either and like SofaKing381222 said Lost needs a different color maybe a blue will work or just use the same color as in season one. Desperate Housewives have to take out all the apples and just have them standing like the first season. I didn't like to see them laying down.
I did enjoy the subtitles but I don't think they will work.

It looks like the cover of a book. I really wish they all change because the cover are UGLY I can't stand the BIG writing. :P The DH on looks too dark. I do love the orange on LOST.

Ick!

I despise the subtitles. "Desperate Housewives": Season Two - Extra Juicy Edition ... eh. It just barely works - if they stick with the "apple" theme, that is. "Grey's Anatomy": Season 2 - Uncut ... hm.. since when did marketers need to make a television series sound like the dirtier version of "American Pie"? "Now" you say?! Oh. Well then.

"Lost": Season 2 - Extended Experience ... so-so - not nearly as horrendous as the others. "Commander in Chief": Season One - Inaugural Edition ... fair enough, and it works but that cover is revolting.

Sigh.

I think that the Desperate Housewives artwork is perfect. I expect, like season 1, you'll be able to remove a transparent outer layer. The outer layer will have the titles, banners, and the housewives on it. All that will be left (on the front at least) is just the apples. I hope it ends up that way, so it matches season 1. The rest are just....bleh (especially CiC).

I think the artwork would look fine if they removed those ugly banners on them. I think the Desperate Housewives one looks the best and I think they should switch the color on the LOST second season set to a blue color or something.

That's exactly what I was thinking! That's why I said the only thing that they are missing are the housewives on the spine. I'm sure the ugly writing will be gone on all of them so I'm not worried. The only thing, from the three that I'm getting, that I really hate is the orange on LOST. Who knows?....maybe it will work....

Ok, lets see......

I found this fan-made pic on a website, I like it but not the cast pic:
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y171/S ... SETHIS.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

I fixed it and made the cast pic darker, I like it more:
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y171/S ... 2/2pt2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

And even this looks good:
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y171/S ... HIS222.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

What do you think? I wish they would use something like this.... Maybe even a diferent color just not that orange. Something darker...

Man, that is some truly fugly cover art they've got going on. With the exception of Grey's Anatomy-Season 2. That one is so nice and it keeps in theme with the first season- I do love consistency. That Desperate Housewives one would be nicer without all of that horrible text on the front, and I think that maybe a nicer picture should be used. The apple theme is nice but make it look neater. The Lost one is horrible- I would soooooooooooo rather have the one that you made Adam than that ornage one. The picture doesn't work with ornage. Green is better. And don't get me started on Commander In Chief. I don't particularly like the show, but that doesn't mean give it cover art that is worse than Britney and Kevin-Chaotic! Change the photos, text, colour and the font. Nuff said.

Oh and by the way Adam- love the new avatar. So funny!

Thanks, but I didn't do all the effort. I actually found the box somewhere (top pic) I just changed it a bit. I still think that the cast pic on the Disney box needs to be a little darker, like mine.

There's just one thing I've gotta say about the upcoming boxsets...

WTF is up with the labels? "Extra Juicy Edition"? "Inaugural Edition"?

Is "Special" and "Collector's" just not cutting it anymore?

I must say that I thought Luke was pulling a prank when I saw the images for the cover art on the main page; things like "Extended Experience" and "Uncut Edition" seem reasonable, but things like "Inaugral Edition" and "Red Hot Juicy Edition" sound stupid. Along with the issue to do with Fastplay and the Dumbo reissue, it seems as though Disney DVD has really gone down the drain lately. Why can't they be like how they were up until the beginning/middle of 2005?

Extended Experience doesn't even make sense, an experience is as long as it is - an extended experience would just be an experience.
