Revival of WWOD... at least for a while...
ABC has decided to bring back The Wonderful World of Disney. At least for part of the summer. According to a news article at "The Futon Critic"
Starting on June 3rd and running till July 8th, (saturdays) for six straight weeks they will brodcast disney movies at 8/7c.
June 3 - Toy Story
June 10 - Toy Story 2
June 17 - Lady & The Tramp
June 24 - A Bugs Life
July 1 - Lilo & Stich
July 8 - Princess Diaries
This should prove interesting as they have tried not to air these over the summer in the past.
Hope this is of interest to some.

This is great news. I've marked them on my calendar so I won't forget. Even though I own most of these DVD's - I'd like to give them the ratings so maybe they'll keep it up.

Good news, but does anyone else wish they would go back to making original movies on a regular basis? Sure, not every one was as brilliant and hilarious as Principal Takes a Holiday and My Date with the President's Daughter, but they were generally pretty good, attracted some considerable star talent, and are way preferred to the semi-monthly "DCOMs" that are still produced.

Of course we do!!! My personal favorite is NOAH with tony danza. Disney has just gotten lazy and likes to slack...Back during the Zoog Disney days, "DCOM"'s as they are now called were one every month...until about 2001-2002 when the numbers started decreasing and decreasing. and now they try maybe 6 or 7 a year.Luke wrote:Good news, but does anyone else wish they would go back to making original movies on a regular basis? Very depressing if you ask me...Geez Disney, try harder!

I loved the Wonderful World Of Disney!! great move to bring it back, hopefully the ratings are high enough during the 6 weeks to maybe bring it back or a regular, even a semi-regular basis.

Nothing I'm interested in watching -- I have all of those on DVD except Princess Diaries, and since that movie made me physically ill, I have no desire to see it again. However, this is nice to hear nonetheless.

While it's nice that they've given WWOD a 6 week run it would be much better if they'd at least devote half of them to original programming. Reruns of movies that just about every person in the US owns in some format is really a sad use of the timeslot.

I'm very excited that it is returning and really hope ratings are high so we can get more original movies. I agree that WWOD had WAY better movies than Disney Channel, except for the Zenon movies, which are my favorite Disney made for tv movies. Anyways, my favorite WWOD movie is deffinatley Tower of Terror. I'm loading that film onto my computer as I type so I can put it on my Ipod video. I also loved A Wrinkle in Time. I'll tune in even though I own all the films on DVD just because I miss it.

I'm not saying you shouldn't watch it or anything.......but you do know that unless your tv is equipped by the Neilson folks to get feedback it wont do squat for the ratings whether you watch it or not, right. This is great news. I've marked them on my calendar so I won't forget. Even though I own most of these DVD's - I'd like to give them the ratings so maybe they'll keep it up.

I had no clue. Embarassed How does this work? That doesn't seem like ratings even count for anything then, if they can't actually tell who all is watching. Does anybody here have their TV equipped as mentioned above? Wow - I guess you learn something new every day.
What they do is install a special meter in about 5,000 peoples houses and then based on what those 5,000 people are watching use mathematics to guess what everybody else is watching. here this page will explain it better than I can
http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/question433.htm
The sad thing is...theoretically...there could be millions of people watching a certain show but if it doesnt do well in those 5,000 equipped houses...then sayonora!

That's crap! I can't believe somebody hasn't changed this by now. You would think they could install some sort of device in every TV that's produced for a small cost to be able to track EVERYBODY....but I guess not everybody wants what they watch tracked, hey?Artlad wrote:The sad thing is...theoretically...there could be millions of people watching a certain show but if it doesnt do well in those 5,000 equipped houses...then sayonora!
Is there any way you can request one of these devices be installed? Say you're interested in joining the program?

Nope, it relies on its "randomness". Basically, those 5000 families have the Nielsen stuff in their home for a few weeks, then it goes to another family somewhere. It's not a volunteer thing, unfortunately. You're essentially chosen at random to be a Nielsen house for some weeks, and you either accept or reject it.kbehm29 wrote:Is there any way you can request one of these devices be installed? The really bad thing about Nielsens, too, is that they only record households. So all those college kids watching in their dorms, all those people having viewing parties in a bar, all the teachers hanging around the teacher's lounge, etc. They don't count at all. Plus, any households (Nielsens included) that simply record the show and fastforward the commercials don't count either.
I used to put a lot of stock in the Nielsen ratings, since as a soap viewer, Nielsens always killed us since a soap could have been really great, but had low Nielsen ratings which resulted in network executives dictating changes to get the ratings back up, usually at the expense of the good stories they had going. Now I don't care about a lot of current TV, so don't care if it got high or low ratings.

Now yes, college dorms, ect don't get counted, but, every person with cable or satilite gets counted just like the people with the neilson boxes. There is a feedback in the cable/sat reception that monitors what the homes are watching on there feed. Also, if you own a DVR hooked to cable and record to watch later, you are also counted (Live+SDR (Same day Recording)) but unless you have something like TiVo, that doesn't matter.
Also the new Digital Brodcast (HD) is supposed to have a feedback system in it signal that sends the info back to the station on what people are watching. But since thats not for another 2 years (Feb. 2008) I guess we will have to wait.

Re: Revival of WWOD... at least for a while...
Is this good news or bad news for the rumored 2-disc release? Maybe they're hoping people will see this and want to own their own DVD. Interesting.NarniaDis wrote:July 1 - Lilo & Stich
Also interesting to see Toy Story on June 3 and Toy Story 2 on June 10 with Cars coming out on June 9.
And maybe they're trying to remind everyone how great Lady and the Tramp was so they'll buy the recent release. Interesting.

WWOD- *YAWN*
I have all of these on dvd- why would I watch them on tv with commercials! Now if they showed the old WWOD, or even the ones from the 80's, I'd be happy.
