Scary Movie 4... anyone going to see it?

Post by TM2-Megatron »

So, are there many fans of the Scary Movie franchise on the board? And who's planning to go see the fourth installment?

Personally I enjoyed the first one, but the second felt pretty desperate and wasn't very funny. When the franchise was taken over by the likes of David Zucker and Pat Proft of movies like Airplane! and Naked Gun, I felt it improved again; although the comedy style completely changed from the rather vulgar humour of 1 & 2.

As for myself, I'm probably going to see 4 sometime this weekend. Even if it isn't that great (though it looks funny from the previews), at least Anna Faris is in it; and she's been consistently adorable in all of the Scary Movies. Rarely have I seen someone who can pull off facial expressions that scream ditz (in a cute way), but simultaneously leave you with the impression she's the only person in that world that has a shred of common sense.

I agree. The change in direction has done wonders for the franchise, which is much funnier now under the Zukers than it was in the first two installments. I felt that the "script" for the first film - which pretty much transcribed Scream and added some vulgar and bong-related jokes - was incredibly poor. Let's face it - Scream was pulling apart the horror genre and taking a knowing look at the films. There was no need to parody the parody, especially if you are going to do it poorly.

The third film had that spontaneous randomness that characterised the Naked Gun and Hot Shots films, as well as providing some decent parody (as opposed to the 'scene for scene). It also added the most important ingredient of Leslie Nielson, who can make anything funny. The fact that they are parodying George W Bush's famous "inaction" when he heard the news about 9/11 and simply sat for 15 minutes in the children's classroom means this is a MUST SEE film for me. :)

True, lol. Plus, the Tom Cruise/Oprah parody should be amusing as well. Although for the Scary Movie guy who's going nuts, I'm somewhat more sympathetic... Cindy Campbell is much more appealing than Katie Holmes.

I'm sure my friend would want to see it so he'll drag me along. It looks kind of funny though.

I'm already going to see The Wild this weekend, so I'm most likely going to wait for this one on DVD (as a rental).

Loved the Airplane and Naked Gun movies, but the Scary Movie series has done nothing for me. I will avoid it like the plague that it is. What is with this constant sequel-mania that Hollywood has itself locked into? Especially garbage like Scary Movie 1-4, and Scream, et al, and all those horrendous Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Friday the 13th movies. The first one of each of those was the best and everything else was just a retread. And don't get me started on "Freddy vs. Jason"!!!! I stay away from this stuff.

That being said, I did enjoy "Ice Age The Meltdown" and "Shrek 2" and am looking forward to "Shrek 3". There is a quality to those films that the "Scary Movie" series lacks.

Yes, I'm going to see Scary Movies on it open weekend instead of The Wild. Maybe I'll see The Wild next weekend.
Anyways I love the part when Dr. Phil and Shaq are making fun of Saw.
I thought the whole Tom Cruise socks Oprah and then Oprah socks was very funny.

There's only so many ways to milk a cash cow with one udder. Hollywood should start breeding more cows. And cloning cows (read: remakes) don't count as making more cows!

I might see it. I want to see Dr. Phil get hit in the head with a pipe. (I know, I know, it's not a REAL pipe, but it's still fun)

I doubt I'll see it, but my friend wants to really badly.

But I was wondering... can anyone list all the movies/hollywood events that this movie is spoofing?? I would really like to know.
I don't think they're just spoofing scary movies...I think I saw a Brokeback Mountain spoof.

...I know some people in the world would deem that movie "scary" but I was like, "whaaaaaaaat?"
:pan: Love It.

I think the movie largely spoofs the following: Saw, Saw II, The Village, The Grudge, War of the Worlds, Million Dollar Baby, and Brokeback Mountain. There are also some smaller jokes about Red Eye, The Simple Life, Cursed, and Hustle & Flow. And of course, there's a joke on Tom Cruise's behaviour on Oprah (which, I've heard, is about 5 minutes long, lol), and the one about Bush's reaction to being told about 9/11 in that classroom.

I have plans to see it. I love all the spoof movies that David Zucker has done. While I don't want to see the first two..I saw the third which had a little gross out humor. But this seeing the Tom Cruise parody makes me want to see this one and Leslie Nielson returns! :D

Probably'll end up seeing it twice - or more - seeing that I have quite a few different groups of friends dying to see it, even though a part of me dies every time I see the "Brokeback Mountain" spoof.

I really enjoyed the second one, the third was terrible. Seeing that Leslie Nielsen is in this one, I'm considering this one now.
