A Grand Introduction

Post by numba1lostboy »

Why hello everyone! :D

I am fairly new to the forum and after viewing many of the dynamics of the forum members, I thought it might be good for me to introduce myself a little more properly.

My name is Daniel. My favorite movie of ALL is Disney's Peter Pan. I am 18 (going on 19) and I go to Texas Lutheran University in TX, USA. I would love to know if anyone else in this forum is from Texas.

I like to describe my political standings as a "liberal-minded conservative"... and that's all I am saying.

I love music, especially pop and contemporary Christian. I was very glad to see other Christian music lovers on here (it's very frustrating not being able to discuss music when no one's ever heard of the groups you like lol).

Disney is my first love, and is closely followed by Harry Potter. I love anything and everything to do with HP and Disney! :D

If there's anything else you want to know, just ask!

PS if any of you are members of Facebook, you should look me up!

Also, I think this thread could be put to use by all the new UDers to introduce themselves to everyone.
:pan: Love It.

Nice to meet you, Numba1lostboy. :)

Your screen name. Is that in reference to the television show, LOST?

Anyway, you probably already know I'm a HUGE Madonna fan, but, I love other artists, and types of music, as well.

I really enjoy listening to music, watching movies, and keeping up with several television shows. I'm an entertainment junkie.

My favorite move is The Color Purple, and I recommend that anyone who hasn't seen it, go out, and rent/purchase it, right away.

I live in the small town of Coweta, Oklahoma, which is just a few miles from the big city of Tulsa. I work for a photolab, which can be a very interesting job.

Again, welcome to UD. It's a great place! My favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast, and my favorite Disney/Pixar film is The Incredibles. Although, I can honestly say that I enjoy a majority of the Disney and Pixar films. [/i]

How did I miss that?! LOL! It's been a while since I've seen Peter Pan. I guess I need to pull it out, and give it a viewing.

Well we do have the Just Wondering/Your Disney Story thread in GD, but that's mainly for "Introduce yourself via a Disney Story". Plus, it's at 40+ pages so maybe it's time to start from scratch and have it be a general introduction page in off-topic now. It'll allow the noobs to introduce themselves and allow the vets to re-introduce themselves.

Anyways, I'm Escapay. I've been with UD since January 2004. Initially I came 3 weeks or so after my brother Kram Nebuer, and did it totally to annoy him. You see, from 1999-2004 I was always hogging the computer by going to various soap opera messageboards (namely World of Soap Themes and Soap Opera Network. WoST and SON). So I joined UD, thinking, "Hehe, I'll just post a bit to annoy Kram". But eventually I became a regular, and have been ever since.

As for my personal life:

My real name is Albert, and after a struggling year and a half at Temple University (in Philadelphia), I left college and interned at Walt Disney World, in their WDW College Program. From January to August of 2005, I was a castmember at the Magic Kingdom, working in OutDoor Foods (ODF). We did popcorn, ice cream, cinnamon glazed almonds (the cart in Adventureland was practically my second home).

Right now I'm in my second semester at a community college, rebuilding my GPA and I changed my major to Education. I plan on being either an English or a Math teacher in high school.

I loved soap operas, though now the only two that really hold my attention are All My Children and General Hospital.

One day I was bored and decided to compile a list from my DVDs of what I'd consider my "Signature" DVD collection. That is to say, 20 individual titles (or one individual TV series, including all seasons), that stand out in my collection as the ones I found myself constantly watching. Anyway, here's the list, though of course, it's subject to change:

1. Aladdin: Platinum Edition
2. The Band Wagon: Special Edition
3. Beauty and the Beast: Platinum Edition
4. Bringing Up Baby: Special Edition
5. Chocolat: Collector’s Series
6. Clue
7. Coupling: The Complete Series 1-4
8. Dirty Dancing: Ultimate Edition
9. Empire of the Sun
10. Galaxy Quest
11. The Goonies
12. Legend: Ultimate Edition
13. Now, Voyager
14. Peter Pan: Special Edition
15. A Place in the Sun
16. The Princess Bride: Special Edition
17. St. Elmo’s Fire
18. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers: Special Edition
19. The Ten Commandments: 50th Anniversary Edition
20. When Harry Met Sally: Special Edition

Hmm, what else can I talk about?

My political views can be somewhat liberal, somewhat conservative. It depends on certain issues that are being discussed.

My favorite song, if that interests anyone, is "Fascinating Rhythm" by Gershwin.

I don't have a license yet, though I am scheduling my driving test to be sometime before the end of April.

I don't have any tattoos, piercings, or alcohol in my system. The only smoke to touch my lungs are secondhand from unfortunate circumstances in which I had to be around people who were smoking.

I dress pretty comfortably, I've been called "Preppie" before.

I've got a fascination with hats and jackets. I don't do a lot of clothes shopping, but if I ever do, it's always a hat or jacket that interests me.

My favorite flavor of ice cream is Cookie Swirl, where it's vanilla ice cream, chocolate chips, and actual Nestle Tollhouse cookies swirled together.

I'm right handed, and a strange character quirk of mine is that I only walk on a person's left side. If it's a group, it doesn't matter where I walk. But if it's just me and one other person, I've gotta be on the left.

Welcome numba1lostboy!

If the hat is being passed around, I may as well join in.

Loomis - More than Just a Pantsless Cheese Fiend

Name: Loomis, Richard
Born: December 12
Live In: Sydney Australia
Hair color: brown
Eyes: hazel
Distinguishing features: beard, sideburns, lack of pants

Loomis is the handle, although most folks in the 'real world' call me Richard. I've been here since the start of this incarnation of the board back in April 2003, with a few months of dallying on the 'condom board' prior to this conception. I guess the condom board didn't work, huh?

I've got a couple of degrees - one a liberal Arts degree (with Honours in Political Science) and the other is a Law degree. Presently, I work in a library, so I guess I'm an overqualified bum :)

My one constant is my lovely girlfriend who also works at the same place I do. Guess how we met? :p

My hobbies fluctuate from week to week. Constant interests include Disney DVDs, Disney theme parks, Green Arrow comics, music and film. I'm also really into travel planning at the moment. After a trip to the US last year, I'm planning another in 2008 and a Hong Kong trip this year.

* Favourite films (All-time): Tough call, but I'd go for The Godfather, Singin' in the Rain; The Little Mermaid; Moulin Rouge, The Great Escape, Annie Hall, Fight Club; Raiders of the Lost Arc; Once Upon a Time in the West or Empire Strikes Back. Obvious choices, yes, but I love 'em nonetheless.

* Favourite films (Guilty pleasures): Halloween; Evil Dead 2; Silent Night Deadly Night Parts 1 & 2; Plan 9 from Outer Space.

* Favourite records: Even harder. Top picks would have to include David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars; You Am I - Hourly Daily; Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness; Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights; NIN - Fragile; The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots; Radiohead - OK Computer and The Beatles - Revolver. I know I have forgotten heaps. Other favourite artists include Dallas Crane; The Grates; The Dandy Warhols; Rocket Science and Johnny Cash.

* Favourite authors: Edgar Allen Poe; Chuck Palahniuk; Umberto Eco; Isaac Asimov.

* Favourite TV Shows: The Simpsons; Star Trek (any); Doctor Who (Any); Seinfeld; League of Gentlemen; The Mighty Boosh; The Chaser's War on Everything

*Turn-Offs include: mobile phones, people who impose their views on others, people who wear thongs with jeans and people who touch themselves a lot when they talk.

*Food: If I had the option, I'd eat Mexican cuisine or pizza for every meal. But I love my cereal in the mornings. Fresh-fruit salad is rocking my world at the moment. Love a good bit of watermelon. Naturally, CHEESE is a big favourite of mine. Although I used to love drinking Coke and eating chocolate, they have been cut right out at the moment (see below).

My current "major work" is a bit of personal development: I was determined to lose some weight after my last holiday (I kind of porked up). As a result, I've shed 16 kg so far this year (that's about 35 lbs for those in the US). I'm pretty much down to my "target healthy weight", so I'm pretty proud of that. Just toning up at this point...

That's the story up to this point.

Oh, and apes rule in the future.

I don't think I ever formally introduced myself, either.

My real name is Katie, and I'm 29 years old. I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The most important thing in my life is my four sons - Casey (age 10), Tyler (age 8 ), Adisa (age 3), and Jelani (20 months). Adisa and Jelani's father was born and raised in Barbados - so we get to visit there rather frequently so they can see their grandmother and aunts/uncles/cousins. :) Great deal for me. I also have two step-daughters Aurie (age 8, lives in Milwaukee) and Jalissa (age 16, lives in Barbados).

Obviously, I love Disney. I also enjoy reading classic children's novels to my kids and making them memorize endless facts and trivia about the novel. We also watch any related DVD material after we finish reading the book, and I've just recently started taking them to the theatre as well (we saw Tom Saywer on stage just yesterday afternoon). I love the movie Finding Forrester and I started doing this with my kids to make them as smart as Jamal (the character in Finding Forrester).

My favorite movie of all time is Back to the Future, and I almost cried on the day it was released on DVD - in fact, I think I took off work because of it! I also like Stargate.

We are getting a puppy - Shamrock a.k.a. "Rocky", was born on St. Patrick's Day and will be coming home with us on May 12th. He is a chocolate Labrador and we can't wait! We also have two cats and six gerbils.

I am addicted to buying DVD's and spend money like it grows on trees, much to the disdain of my fiance.

Ummmm.....that's all I can think of right now. This is a great forum - and I look forward to checking out the new posts every day! Thanks.

WONDERLICIOUS: A Life with Pants on, unlike our dear friend of ours

Real Name: Joe
Nicknames (in real life): Joey, Joey J, JJ, Jarvis, Jarv
Nicknames (online): Wonderlicious, Wonder, Wondy, Wondie (I know that's the same as the last one, but still, it's a cool alternate spelling...)
Born: June 16th 1988
Live In: Warrington, England
Hair color: Brown
Eyes: Blue
Skin Colour: White
Religion: Hard to explain, really...semi-Catholic; I don't agree with many aspects of the religion, yet I do respect the Bible and some of its teachings (such as be the love generation). I'm not 100% religious, yet I'm not a full-on atheist.

As most regulars know, my real name is Joe (look at teh siggy, man okay!!!), and I come from a town in the North West of England inbetween Manchester (general big city which is cool) and Liverpool (the home of the Beatles), and have been frequenting this site since the end of 2003 or so when my love for Disney really took off again; it had been somewhat quiet for a few years, though I still had an obsession with a number of Disney things such as the theme parks, Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast (both the stage production and the film), Aladdin, Monsters Inc, Pinocchio and Alice in Wonderland. I was starting to get into Disney DVD (started quite timidly, as I was worried if I'd be wasting money seeing as how many Disney videos I had), and by around the time of signing up to the forum in June 2004, I had started to really become obsessed with the DVD medium in general, in part due to discovering about aspect ratio issues.

Prior to joining the board, I had experienced a generally normal British life. I'd never lived in 50 countries and/or in an elephant carcus for five months. I lived with my parents and brother in one house until 1995, moving to a bigger house the same year. Video and TV defined my childhood in a way. I watched all the great Disney classics on video, as well as a number of other TV shows (quite a lot since we only ever got extra TV channels aside from the main networks for the first time last year), which are elaborated on in this thread. I've also made a couple of films, yet I do realise that they are generally only mediocre novelties, which was bound to happen due to restrictions. I went to a catholic state funded primary school, and later a state funded catholic high school. It wasn't run by nuns or evil priests, but I think that the attitudes that I was exposed to have made me the somewhat liberal (or at least open minded) person I am today; I found the opinion forcing that some teachers gave a bit grating, and subsequently, used what I believed were their mistakes as a guide how not to act. That doesn't mean to say that I hate conservatives, though (only the truly intense ones such as Ann Coulter get me pissed off). Some of the kids at school were total jerkasses (often racist, too, though not to me as I'm white like them), yet I would say that equally a good number of people from school (including teachers, I know, I'm nerdy ) are good friends. What may be happy for some to know, however, especially Lazario, is despite the religious nature, the concept of homosexuality was never considered a crime in school, and I only found out that it was technically considered "disgraceful" by the Vatican when I was fifteen and reading a random book. I do feel happy that the school was like that, as it upsets me when I read that whole church organisations can reer up children into homophobes. (Sorry about the rant, there.)

Life is currently going well (for the most part). I'm going to do my A-Level exams (no idea what the US equivalent is, but it's essentially the self chosen exams that you do prior to going to university) this summer, in English Literature (Othello, Blake's poetry and War Literature, whoopee...), French (random stuff to do with French speaking countries and their language) and German (same as French, only with German). After that, I hope to study French and German at either the University of Leeds (home of the Kaiser Chiefs! :D) or the University of Nottingham (home of Robin Hood! :D). In all honesty, I'd love a creative job in the media, and I plan to join media related student union groups to gain more experience (Uni of Leeds has it's own mini TV station, for example), but I'll do languages as the main subject, as it's something useful to fall back upon if things go wrong, and I do truly like the subject area, as I love other languages and other cultures, and feel obliged to embrace both when abroad.

Here are some other fun statistics about me:

Favourite Films:
Amelie, The Graduate, The Wizard of Oz, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Moulin Rouge, Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo, The Little Mermaid, The Incredibles (okay most things related to Disney/animation, then)

Favourite TV shows:
The Simpsons (duh), Futurama (started getting into this, which will please Netty :) ), Rugrats, Goodness Gracious Me, My Name is Earl, Maid Marian and her Merry Men, a lot of stuff to do with Channel 4

Favourite Cusine:
Most things mainstream Italian (pasta and pizza), some British cusine (fish and chips, roast dinners), Subway, Fajitas and Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream

Favourite Big Cities:
Manchester, Paris, Boston, Leeds, Berlin, London

Things that annoy me the most:
Big Brother, People who get friends yet don't deserve them, People who force their opinions on others, Smoking, Rupert Murdoch, the Bush dynasty, ITV

Cool Music that I listen to a lot:
Franz Ferdinand, Coldplay, Kaiser Chiefs, Maroon 5, Various soundtracks and oldie music, including Simon and Garfunkel

Anything else to say before I post?
I love UD, it's a cool site! I also like Animated News and DVD Times. Wallace and Gromit is also cool, especially the original three featurettes! I will be willing to sell my soul for Loomis' pants (if they really do exist)

I am left-handed.
I have two younger brothers who live in Kerrville, TX with my parents.
I am relatively fashion-conscious. I have been described as "metro."

I am in the process of witing my own sequel to Peter Pan. It's basically a fan fiction and the only fan fiction I have ever written. Would you all be interested in me posting it for you to read? I would love your feedback.
But I understand if that's not what these forums are for.
:pan: Love It.

Name: Collin Reid
Age: 36 as of last January 7.
Married nearly nine years
Three children - all boys.
Employed as a sales consultant with a very large multi-national corporation.
Lives in Minnesota but moving to California next month.
Religion: Lapse Baptist
Political leanings: Conservative economically, liberal on social issues and foreign policy. However I don’t believe there is a big difference between most liberals and conservatives.

Favorite Movies: Casablanca, Citizen Kane, The Grand Illusion, The Godfather, Star Wars, The Third Man, Singing In The Rain, Sunset Boulevard, Raging Bull & Night At The Opera.

Favorite Shows: The Simpsons, The Daily Show….Others….Seinfeld, The Twlight Zone, The Original Star Trek, Cheers.

Disney Favorites: My favorite Disney stuff is the animation shorts like The Old Mill and The Skelton Dance. Otherwise I heavily enjoy the animated classics and all Pixar movies. Not a fan of most DTV or live action movies.

Other Entertainment Interest:
Hitchcock movies
Classic American Animation, Looney Tunes, Tex Avery, Betty Boops,
Any classic silent comedian, Chaplin, Keaton, L&H, etc.
Hong Kong golden age of 1983 – 1998.

Other Beliefs: Best movie about men without Pants: You're Darn Tooting, a Laurel & Hardy short!

Pet Peeves:
1) I don’t like because it is in b/w.
2) Cut Jackie Chan US releases.
3) Most political talk shows. The most worthless TV ever.
4) My son’s obsession of Thomas The Tank Engine.
5) Good movies with worthless DVD release. I don’t expect every movie to have the Snow White Platinum release, but it would nice to see a remastered DVD with at least a commentary.
6) Nights with less than 6 hours of sleep.
7) Law & Order and any other like murder mystery show. (Wife loves them.)

Lastly, I went to school at UC Irvine, the location of the start of the ape revolution in Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes.

I better start collecting those bananas with Albert.
