What TV show has made you cry?

Post by 2099net »

I saw this on another site, and decided to put it here. I know we have had a thread on films, but I'm not sure if we have had one a tv series or not.

Anyhow, over the years:

E.R.
The episode with Ewan McGregor. He shouldn't have run. :(

The Simpsons
For some reason the one with Bart shoplifting and then buying his mum the photo always makes me cry. I also teared up at the one in the army camp as well, when Bart starts to cheer Lisa on.

Joan Of Arcadia
No specific episodes as such, but the whole series was wonderfully emotional. Well, Season 1, I've yet to see Season 2. [drums fingers, waiting for the DVD set)

Buffy: The Vampire Slayer
Yes, I cried when when Tara was shot. Sorry Loomis!

Holding On
The ending is so uplifting and positive, after so many characters have been dragged down into the emotional gutter, it's good to see (most) of them crawl their way back up and come out as better people.

Doctor Who
The Doctor's "betrayal" of Rose, the holographic Doctor looking at Rose as he tell's her to remember him by "having a fantastic life" and even Rose's "Chips/Better Life" speech, all had my eyes watering in The Parting of the Ways. However, I never felt much emotion in Father's Day - unlike most people.

M*A*S*H
How can anyone not cry when Radar reads the telegram informing the crew of Col. Blake's plane being lost at sea? A wonderful understated but emotional moment. A scene like that wouldn't be shown on TV these days, it would be classed as not having enough impact.

Northern Exposure
I cried at the Cicely episode, which detailed the townships founding.

Spaced
I must confess, my eyes were watering slightly when Tim pursuaded Daisy to come back to the flat, and the series ended leaving the pair watching TV together.

Yes, I know what you are thinking. And Yes, I may cry a like a baby, but deep down I'm just a macho manly man, who is in touch with his feelings. Or something.

Was Father's Day the one where they go back in time to see Rose's father? I cried at that, and I don't even watch the program.

Erm...I nearly cried in Ally McBeal where Elaine was made to give 'her' child back to its real parents, that was sad. Apart from that, I can't think of many that have made me cry, there must be some.

I cried during the last episode of the origin series of Talespin, when Baloo decides to fly the Sea Duck into the closing beak of the Air Pirates' airship, even though he knows his beloved plane will be destroyed (which it was). Seeing the Sea Duck torn to pieces was extremely sad

Leave it to me to bring in the soaps...

General Hospital
Several instances when I teared up. I had always heard about the whole BJ/Maxie heart transplant storyline, but I got into GH in 1999, 4 years after it, so I watched clips of it online. It's really powerful stuff.

Also, during the whole week of Lila's funeral, in 2004, I cried several times. It was really powerful stuff, almost as if everything that's been a miserable failure on the show disappeared and we had a week of what a soap opera like GH should have been. It was powerful for the actors too, because Anna Lee (who played Lila), had died the previous November (2003), and they were finally addressing it onscreen. Jane Elliot's breakdown ("I want my mother!"), was Emmy-worthy (though of course, they didn't give her the damn award...)

And this past February, with the ridiculous virus outbreak storyline, watching the scenes where Tony dies got me crying a bit as well.

All My Children
There was a specific scene that I always remember that had me crying when I first watched it. It was from November 2003, and Bianca is still contemplating whether or not she should have an abortion (she was raped). She's having a conversation with Kendall, which leads to Kendall holding up a sonogram Binks took and points at it, yelling, "Bianca, THIS WAS ME! THIS WAS ME! I was that child!" Kendall herself was a child of rape (Erica was raped by Richard Fields), and she knew how it felt to carry that with her. In the end, Bianca decides to go through with the pregnancy and raise the baby.

Days of our Lives
During the whole serial killer storyline from fall 2003-spring 2004, the one death that really got everyone up in arms (besides Alice) was Maggie, on Halloween. It was so sad seeing her *pleading* with the serial killer to let her live ("Mickey needs me!"). I had to turn away when she was being stabbed...

I'm sure there's more, but those moments really stand out for me as times I cried when watching a TV show...

Let's see....I cried during the last episode of "The Nanny"..it's the whole Streisand song/past clips montage that gets me every time I see it. I cried during an episode of Gilmore Girls in season 5, where Luke breaks up with Lorelai in the market. From there on, i'm in tears, espically when she's lying in bed talking about how he could have been "The One". (it's a shame that rumor has it we'll be seeing a scene similar to that in the season finale)

Laughed so hard I cried:
One episode of The Nanny: Fran accidently dressed as a Nurse and had to "prepare" Mr. Sheffield for surgery for i'm not sure what (appendix?) and the doctor told her to shave him for the surgery and she asks "Well, where do you want me to shave - Ohhhhh." So, she takes the shaving cream and just sprays it under the gown while looking away, then takes her hands and tried to spread the cream, and Niles, the butler, comes in and says "Bucking for a raise?" I'm bawling out tears by then.

An episode on America's Funnies Home Videos: The Best Of kids & animals dvd. You see a dog on his back, asleep with a small smile on his face. You hear the person behind the camera saying something about dogs smiling, then the dogs eyes slowly open, and it's freaky, but I just started laughing and couldn't stop....I was geting side cramps from laughing, tears coming down my face, had a hard time controlling myself. I still don't know how/why it was funny, but it just was.

Spoilers are in white:

The Simpsons:
When I watched Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire (the first Christmas episode), I started getting misty eyed when Homer feels disappointed on seeing Ned and son feel excited about a wonderful Christmas and at the end when the family feel happy that Homer rescued the dog and brought him home. I also came close to cracking up at the end of Life in the Fast Lane, Mother Simpson, Homer's Night Out and A Streetcar Named Marge. The end of Homer's Barbershop Quartet also left my spine tingling.

Futurama:
If there weren't people in the room, I would have cried at the end of Jurassic Bark and Luck of the Fryrish

Friends:
I felt misty eyed in the last scene of the last episode where the flat was left empty with just the keys on the table. It just felt so bittersweet.

Sailor Moon. That show made me cry like a baby. Especially in episode 20 of the U.S. season when Neflite was murdered, that episode was so emotional for me I was depressed for the entire weekend before the next episode debuted. And then I cried during the 21st episode because they didn't pick up where any of episode 20 left off until episode 22.

That is probably the first clear memory I have of crying during a TV show. I felt sure we'd been cheated at first, and he wasn't actually dead.

Abyssinia, Henry was first screened back in 1975, three years before I was born, so I must've seen it on one of the countless re-runs at a young age.

Grey's Anatomy, so many times that I can't even count them, let alone list them. But particurarly the following; spoilers if you haven't seen the April 2 episode.

* It's The End of the World (As We Know It) - the Code Black two-parter

* Bring the Pain - "Pick me, choose me, love me" speech.

* Into You Like A Train - train wreck/metal pole, "How do you decide who gets to live?", and Derek's "She's my wife" to Meredith.

* The Name of the Game - Meredith meeting her half-sister and stepmother and reaction to that; Webber and Thatcher at the board; and the scene at the very end with George describing Meredith to Thatcher with her watching from the side unknown to either of them. Wonderful.

The Wonder Years- In the last episode, grown-up Kevin (Daniel Stern) is telling everything that happens to his family as the camera is panning to each character at the 4th of July Parade. I bawled like a baby, especially when he tells that he and Winnie don't get married, but stay close friends and that his father dies.

I also cried during the last episode of Beverly Hills 90210 when "David" and "Donna" finally get married.

You're probably going to think I'm the biggest nerd ever but the episode of Walker Texas Ranger where Walker takes care of a little boy with AIDS.
Dragon, not lizard. I don't do that tongue thing.

Lilo: I'm not touching you!
Stitch: TOUCHING ME!
