Conan's 10th Anniversary was cool. I was there!

"ALF" is something that's long overdue, and I'll gladly purchase. From what I've seen, the last season is pretty poor, but the first three are very good. Can't wait to get it!

Alf Season 2 is Arriving On DVD! Read More About It

Finally, Lions Gate is releasing Season 2 of the Classic TV Show Alf on DVD.

Here's More Info from www.tvshowsondvd.com

ALF - Season 2 Artwork + Extras
Posted by Gord Lacey
5/23/2005

Lions Gate has made the artwork for the second season of ALF available to us. Here's the text from the back of the box:
"Hey, I'm a people alien!" ALF: Season Two" comes crash landing with even more antics and household chaos! Being banished to the garage for his bad behavior is insulting enough...but how do you cure a case of the dreaded Melmacian hiccpus? This furry extraterrestrial has earned a place in the Tanners' home and in the hearts of millions. Catch this complete second season starring the funniest cosmic comedian ever!
The specs include a newly remastered Full Frame (1.33:1) picture (using the syndicated masters); a 2.0 Dolby Surround audio track; interactive menus hosted by ALF; ALF's Animated Adventures episode: "Phantom Pilot" and ALFTales episode: "Robin Hood." We don't have a date nailed down, but season 2 will be out in August.

The extras sound good, but going with the syndicated cuts of the episodes again just because it's easier for them is extremely lame. This one will have to be really cheap for me to buy.

And yes, Paka is correct (as usual), I knew this was coming. What's next after this, ALF: Season 3?!

Yeah, Lions Gate has the worst reputation when it comes to TV sets on TV. Kind of liked Alf but until they do it right forget it.

Luke is definitely the person to speak to about this one.

I'm sure he'd respond with a hearty "YES!" (Unless he doesn't).

On the basis of the show, YES. On the basis of the DVD, eh, maybe, but probably not. They're all edited because it was easier/cheaper for Lions Gate to use syndicated cuts than to go back to the original masters. Rewarding that kind of behavior seems like a bad move. On the other hand, the show isn't in reruns anywhere in the US (as far as I know), so this is really your only legal way to see the show if you didn't record episodes yourself. The editing is bothersome in theory, but also in execution. Certain scenes will be missing, only to be glimpsed at in the end credits. Songs that are crucial to the episode will be dropped if it's cheaper that way. And so on. Some episodes are as short as like 18 minutes, if I remember correctly. That's 25% of the show missing. The first two seasons of "ALF" are its best and it's really a shame that this had to happen because obviously sales would be higher if it didn't and obviously the studio wouldn't be losing money by simply using the original tapes. I bought Season One not knowing and Season Two, only because it was on sale for $19.99 and I had a gift card. If you can find a really good price, especially in a second-hand setting, that'd really be the best way to justifying the purchase of an inferior presentation of a quite funny sitcom.

Lions Gate is starting to get better at this, though. Moonlighting was held back until they could get the rights to all the original songs, and they did. My Will & Grace: Season Three has all the songs I remember hearing, including songs by Duran Duran and Madonna.

Alf: Season Three which is due out May 30th will still contain the syndicated episodes. Too bad Anchor Bay didn't get the rights to this series. :(

I think Anchor Bay is still distributing seasons of 3rd Rock from the Sun with scenes missing from whichever version contains more scenes, they distribute the shorter episodes of that show, and if this situation also ever occured with Roseanne (which I know it does, that Halloween episode where she dresses up as a man has a scene with her in the mens' bathroom that only shows up on Oxygen's re-runs, never TV Land's), that show gets the same treatment. Of course, the video/audio quality is always as good as could be expected from Anchor Bay and in the extras department, they never let you down.

Yeah, but everything got fixed up for the second seasons of Roseanne and 3rd Rock.
