HEY! Not all Asian DVDs are illegal you know....although a huge majority of them are. So don't start condeming us here.....
Anyways, tips on finding out about illegal/bootlegged DVDs from Asia:
[1] Anything thats priced to good to be true (on average, market prices for a pirated DVD-5 is about US$2 and DVD-9 is about US$4)
[2] Look at pictures if they're included...preferably real camera shots of the item and not some image ripped of from Amazon or elsewhere. Pirated DVDs have horribel speeling (
sic) and bad printing
[3] Legit Disney DVDs in Asia all have a security sticker, Disney hologram and/or an additional licensing board sticker attached....ask to see it before buying.
[4] Region free is a good indicator....Disney DVDs MUST HAVE a region to be distributed legally.
[5] Do note that some legal Disney DVDs are DVD-5 single layered....these are released as budget versions and cost about US$10 each). The only ones I know of that are DVD5 are Tarzan, Toy Story1/2, Dinosaur but its best to stay clear of these.
[6] The DTS warning is good....pirated DVDs have a (usually) oval shaped DTS hologram sticker attached eventhough no DTS is available on disc. A true DTS DVD should have it printed on the cover or is a rounded rectangular sticker instead.
Other than that, you can't really tell a bootleg from an original.....I should know cause I have a few

They're bit-for-bit exact identical copies of the original DVD-9s except for lack of regioncoding. If anybody wants, I probably can include scans of true original R3 DVDs for comparison purposes.
