After Platinum Edition, what will the Editions be called?
The lineup for the Platinum Editions is nearly complete. Sometime soon Disney will start rereleasing there most prized titles in for the new HD disc formats. They need a name that implies higher quality than Platinum.
I propose the "Sapphire Edition". Since the Blue Ray discs will be shipping in a blue box, and Sapphire is a blue gemstone.

I hope not all Blu-Ray boxes are blue, that's for sure. They should look just the same as DVD cases, but with the Blu-Ray logo instead of DVDs.
Sapphire Edition works... Disney is facing the same problem as the Pokemon franchise, it seems. After the precious metal editions, they moved up to gemstone (and, in a parallel move, remakes using the archaic elements)... but what now?
Disney will probably go with Sapphire... or they could just resurrect the 2-disc Collector's Edition line, releasing and 1 and 2-disc version of each title.

The blu ray discs will have a translucent blue package. Check out these photos.

With HD-DVD, there will be no 2-Disc versions, for single movies, anyway. The storage capacity does not warrant needing a second disc.TM2-Megatron wrote: Disney will probably go with Sapphire... or they could just resurrect the 2-disc Collector's Edition line, releasing and 1 and 2-disc version of each title.

I might agree with you if Disney were putting standard def. transfers on them but with HD masters comes alot less free space, so I'd prefer they break it off into 2-disc sets... At least until those 200GB+ Blu-Ray discs are perfected, then they can do whatever they want.MadonnasManOne wrote:With HD-DVD, there will be no 2-Disc versions, for single movies, anyway. Also, the odds are pretty high that initial releases will be on single-layer media, so that means only 25GB per disc.

I liked it when they were calling many of their vhs titles "Masterpieces". It would be neat if they went back to calling them "Masterpieces" or "Masterpiece Editions". The shiny Masterpiece label always made the vhs tapes look so special.

There's still several "metals" that aren't being used for Editions. Please take these tongue in cheek.
The Copper Edition
The Fox and the Hound - Copper the hound dog
Aladdin - The lamp
The Iron Edition
The Black Cauldren
The Sword in the Stone
Seriously, I like the gem idea. The Diamond Edition, Ruby Edition Sapphire etc...

maybe they should forget about the "masterpiece", special, platinum and all the gizzmos editions stuff...
Just put the movie, many many interesting extras, sometimes one or two games and that`s it. So everyone will call them the Perfect editions.(think about the savings on ink without printing thaty on the cover

20th Century Fox was already using Diamond Edition around 2000/2001 for the Marilyn Monroe films.
I don't think any release could be called perfect. So of course I think "Masterpiece Edition" is still the best option. But honestly, the future of special features... I forsee this for every company : the releases of newer movies will eventually go into 3 disc territory (4 if they include soundtracks), and if we're lucky the older films will get 2 discs...

They'll change. Most people will be put off by them initially. They have to make them distinct from regular DVD cases for now. I mean look at the Batman Begins case. The blue just doesn't work, but we'll have to wait for now.
Remember the cases for Sega CD, Saturn, and Playstation games? They did that so they wouldn't get confused with music CD's. They dropped them soon after the parents could tell the difference.
Even if the official companies don't change them, I'm sure there will be a huge third party market for black cases.
