I had a look at this last night, and I was fairly impressed.

It is obviously hard to tell from a clip that is only a few minutes long, but the humour seems to be going for the pop cultural reference again. However, because it is from the animals' perspective - that is, how animals must view our world - I feel that this is closer in spirit to some of the earlier Disney films than some other recent films. It might have a Toy Story vibe to it, but it doesn't look as witty.

I haven't seen Madagascar: would people say it is pretty close in tone to that?

The heavy reliance on bodily humor jokes is kinda... troubling.

Eddie Izzard as the koala looks pretty cute though. The giraffe just doesn't seem all that... I dunno... feminine to me, but maybe I'm just used to Melman from Madagascar, or something. The lion being the straight-laced leader type doesn't work too well, and goddamn... is that snake annoying!! >_< He acts like he belongs on one of those irritating Nick Jr. shows for preschoolers, but not in a theatrical family film! O_o This is just my reaction to the trailers and clips I've seen thus far, though. I still will probably check this out when it's released, but for little more than morbid curiosity.

Not exactly, no. This is more of a search-and-rescue "quest" kinda film - Madagascar was more of a "fish out of water" plot, as the whole group of animals were lost together. I still think Madagascar is the far superior film - if only for its clever and slapstick-type humor. There were very few, if any, lowbrow and bodily humor jokes in it, which is one of its biggest pluses, imo. It's just an all-around goofy and lighthearted picture, and it's actually one of my favorite DreamWorks flicks. Even with the typical celebrity voices in it and all; they do a decent job most of the time, more or less... with a possible exception of the Chris Rock character, Marty. He comes off as a bit too Chris Rock-ish, or stereotypical ebonics-spewing black guy (i.e. "This place is crack-a-lackin'!!") at times.

Overall, I suggest you see it, Loomis. Don't expect too much of it, though. It's not a classic film in any regard, but it's pretty amusing, if I may say so. The penguins and the lemurs really steal the show, too!

When Finding Nemo meets Madagascar... I hope this will be the LAST sh*t that will bear the Disney brand after Valiant. How cheap it is for Disney to have another little studio to do what they did for a century?!!!!
Too bad the Pixar deal arrived so late, this movie could have been cancelled earlier!

It may not be MADAGASCAR... but Disney really made sure to sell it that way. Plus, did they have to use mostly the same animals?

We have to be fair here: we know how DREAMWORKS just copies whatever Pixar does... and now Disney does the same?

Sorry, but this is movie I won't see.

Although I usually don't like to jump in the whole ''who came up with what first'' thing, it should be noted that The Wild has been in production at Disney for about a decade now. It was first at Feature Animation called Wildlife, then switched to Disney's live action department as 'The Big Break' or something like that. Then it went to CORE in 2001 as The Wild. I remember when I first saw the trailer for Madagascar, thinking Disney was producing something similair. But when it stayed quiet around the Wild I thought Disney had cancelled it.

Actually after viewing that clip im dreading this movie even more. Yes they have been unique and used a different type of animation but i just dont like the look of it....and that clip was plain boring.

I saw the clip and it looked pretty cool. Sure it kinda sounds like Madagascar but it's kinda different, too. I think I'll probably buy it when it comes out on DVD, but I probably won't see it in theaters. I don't know why. Anyway, The Wild looks pretty good, the difference that I found most was that the characters look more like the real thing. That's all I'm saying. See ya!

Somehow, I liked the first 30 seconds of the clip because of the "food-chain" thing kinda makes me chuckle for a few seconds and Naechel's reaction about humans not cleaning themselves actually came out of nowhere.

Now that I'm more anticipated to this film, I can't wait to see it.

Wow... curling? A whole, elaborate sequence devoted to curling? I know it's an Olympic sport, but honestly - how many Average Joes are familiar with curling? Oy, vay!

And of course, a ridiculously callow fart joke at the end. *rubs temples* Man, is this film looking worse and worse. I'd even watch Shrek over this, for all the copious amounts of lowbrow humor that it seems to offer...

That Larry the snake character is really grating my nerves, too. Especially when he says "Oh-khay!" like some special-ed kid. >_< And the lion - Samson? - his paws are freakin' me out. They're too hand-like. Yeesh... and I thought the paws Simba's Pride were bad enough!

Anyhoo - my decision to see this film, even out of morbid curiosity, is starting to waver a bit.

Except that this DIsney project WILDLIFE/BIG BREAK had NOTHING to do with a lion, a giraffe and pals escaping the zoo. It dealt with a depressed elephant.
