Who has a full set of perfect Treasures Tins?

Post by consultant »

I finally completed the Treasures Collection. Holy Geezus, what a pain that was finding mint condition tins! I had no idea! I had to buy and return or re-sell some tins 5 or 6 times before finally finding a perfect one. I actually preferred E-bay sellers with tins that WEREN'T factory sealed as many times the shrink wrap made tiny dings hard to detect and even more common the blue band would be hiding dings.

So considering what a pain it was, I'm curious. Of the people here that have all the Treasures, how many have all mint condition tins, not a single tiny flaw whatsoever, versus how many just gave up and learned to live with a tiny ding or slight pressure point in the corner?

I have all of them in tins, and the tins are in pretty good shape, but I can't say that it's a 100% dent-free collection.

I consider them pretty much "perfect", although I guess I might find the occasional dent if I look closely.

I remember I had one pretty dented copy that I sold off a while ago, but it doesn't seem like much of a problem to me.

Same here. Some didn't weather the international voyage as well as others, and some of them are just starting to look a little scungy. Paint flaking or something...

Paint flaking? I've stored my tins separate. Do you think your tins are looking scrungy from being handled or is the finish oxidizing? Maybe I should wrap mine in plastic wrap or something? After all this work to get perfect tins, I'd die if this started happening to them.

I think it is more oxidizing than handling. I look at them maybe once a year, and it is only the earlier ones that are looking a bit dodgy. I'm not the only person to have noticed this either, and I have heard several reports on this forum (including 2099net I believe) having the same problem.

I suppose there is no harm in trying some protective measure - but remember: DVD ROT KILLS ALL! NOTHING LASTS FOREVER! Bwhahahah!

Of the 14 Treasures I have (wasn't interested in Davy Crockett, The Mickey Mouse Club, Spin & Marty, or Elfego Baca/The Swamp Fox), only one of them has a tiny ding (and even then, it's hard to see even you're looking at it).

I got pretty lucky in that regard, actually. I started collecting the treasures several months after Wave 3 was released; but I was still able to find all the tins I wanted from Waves 1 and 2, new & sealed, in stores around my city (except Mickey Mouse in Living Colour v1 and Silly Symphonies). The Goofy, Disneyland USA and Mickey Mouse in B&W v1 must've been some of the last, though, as I've never seen any since. The oldest treasure any store around me now has is Behind the Scenes; and there still seem to be several of them in various places around the citiy.

I've got a fellow collector considering selling their Treasures Collection. They are thinking it may be best to auction them right after the next wave is released thinking that they can indirectly benefit from some of the marketing push Disney will do when they release the next Wave and maybe hook some new collectors looking to form a complete collection.

Seems to make sense. Either that or maybe sell around Christmas?

I only have two Treasures from this last wave, and having bought them in a store I can't say they are flawless. mainly cause of the sticky stuff that wouldn't come off from when they were wrapped. They probably have dents in the tins as well but I really haven't noticed any.

Though I have to say I'm not really interested in how flawless the tins look. I just care about the cartoons.

I do eventually want to pick up any of the other treasures that I can ut that will have to wait till I get some more money. This summer hopefully.

Did you not want the live-action ones?

Won't say a word, I"ll just

As for my tins, two are in pretty good condition (CDV1 and CPV1), one's got a couple medium-sized dents (Tomorrowland, and since it was considered "damaged" by Disney Merchandising, I got it at a castmember-only store for $10), and the other has probably one or two unnoticeable dents (OTFL). But it's the discs that matter, and my tins are somewhere under my desk being ignored...

Myself, I have no desire to buy everything Disney made. But I've got all of the Treasures. And I'm happy to say I think I've found some "magic" even in the "non-essential" ones.

I have most of the treasures, but am noticing the "oxidizing" that Loomis has mentioned above on some...

The only dent I have is on my "Complete Goofy".. However I don't really mind as I was just so glad to get my paws on it at a reasonable price !

It is quite easy to get the tins in perfect shape if you buy from me.
I always ship the tins in a box.

I don't have all the treasures, but I have all the ones that I wanted. I have two tins that arrived dented up, but the rest of the tins are dent free. I use the tins to store my slipcovers, so the dents don't matter.
