Guess what? I just read on the Target website, Chicken Little's review. I'm furious! Just read it here:
A classic fable gets fused with War of the Worlds in Disney's Chicken Little. In the small town of Oakey Oaks, young Chicken Little (voiced by Zach Braff, Garden State) struggles to live down the embarrassment of having once thought the sky was falling. But when he gets struck again by a hexagonal, sky-camouflaged, hi-tech doohickey, he and his friends Ugly Duckling (Joan Cusack, School of Rock), Runt of the Litter (Steve Zahn, Sahara), and Fish Out of Water discover that aliens are preparing to invade Earth--but since no one believed Chicken Little the first time, why would they believe him now? Though kids will enjoy the bright whizz-bang action sequences of Chicken Little, discerning parents will find the movie tedious. Technically, it has the computer animation quality of Pixar--but with none of their intelligence, heart, or simple storytelling skill. The basic idea of connecting the fable to aliens is amusing, but the script routinely bogs down in clumsy father-son issues that seem like material edited out of Finding Nemo. The jokes rarely have anything to do with the characters, but are mostly pop-culture references that are sadly out of date. The action sequences were obviously created with the inevitable video game in mind, for which the movie is little more than an advertisement. Chicken Little falls flat. --Bret Fetzer

If those statements upset you, I wouldn't dare visit www.rottentomatoes.com to read some of the reviews there. It's just an opinion. If you enjoy the film, then that's really all that should matter to you.TheSequelofDisney wrote:Guess what? I just read on the Target website, Chicken Little's review. I'm furious! Just read it here:

Disney decided to save a tree's life, woohoo!singerguy04 wrote:there wasn't a slipcover
And as usual, the UD review inspires me to buy the DVD, so I picked it up at Wal-Mart for $13.99. And as usual, the only extra frills in the case was the chapter insert. No tattoo, no other promotional guide. I have a sinking feeling that Wal-Mart likes to open their copies to remove these things and then reseal them again...

I got my copy today from Best Buy, and while there was a promotional booklet, there was no bandage. Hmm...
Anyway, the bonus material was pathetically anemic. If Disney wanted to make this a single disc edition so badly, they should've at least given us a commentary track and gallery like with Home on the Range. Disney seems to have completely abandoned commentaries for animated films (though The Little Mermaid is rumored to have one, maybe even two). This is definitely a case of double-dipping down the line because Chicken Little was too successful for Disney to haphazardly give it a release that's inferior to box office flops like Treasure Planet and Home on the Range.

No tattoo for me as well but who cares because it's not like I was gonna use it anyway lol. I got the promo booklet though which is good because I like them in my DVDs.
I also thought this was a pretty lightweight DVD for such a box office hit that Disney hasn't had in animated classics lately. So I am sure a Special Edition will come and a 2-Disc Special Edition as well.

I liked Chicken Little. It was a nice little story. I am sure Disney could have done better but it was a cute little story. I also think it wouldn't have worked well if it was 2D, the 3D fit it more if you ask me.
and that's about it on Chicken Little.

Well, I've just finished watching Chicken Little, and what can I say? I believe the best word for this film is: ODD. I can't put it any other way. While the jist of the story is cute, the presentation was way out there.
I do like the character of Chicken Little. The CGI animation was pretty decent. The story, on the other hand, seemed very A.D.D., to me.
I'm sure children LOVE this film. I'll have to give it a second spin, but, it certainly doesn't rank as one of my favorite Disney releases.

After watching all the real bonus features on the disc, which unfortunately took less than an hour, I am truly disappointed in Disney. There was some interesting material in the featurette, especially about the voice actors, but they barely scratched the surface of what was there.
The deleted scenes were the best feature, and it was cool to see some of the teaser trailer moments in the second alternate opening. The rest of the stuff on the disc was just fluff.
We see films like Glory Road and Eight Below, not to mention Narnia, getting excellent DVD treatment the first time around, and it frustrates me that Disney won't do the same for Chicken Little. From what I can tell, this director would love to do a commentary, and there has to be a wealth of material already produced about the making of this film.
If this were Fox, we would already know that a special edition is coming in a year without being told. With Disney, however, it's more unpredictable when a rerelease might occur.
On the other side of the coin, I guess we have it better than Paramount fans. About nine years after the first Mission: Impossible came out on DVD, we are finally seeing a special edition of that next month.

You all have set the bar to high for Disney movies. They are supposed to be 'entertainment', and no more than that. Disney Kid needs to get over his need for needless slipcovers, and everyone else needs to get off their "critics" bench and just sit back and watch this little "odd" (thanks MMO) film tha I, as the "old fart' in the group, really enjoyed. Sure it isn't the best thing that Disney has ever done, but it is still a lot better than some of the other garbage that is being foisted on us. For $13.95 it is definitely a good addition to the collection.
Those who are disappointed with the extras - have you found the two hilarious 'hidden' Easter Eggs yet? If not, check out www.dvdeastereggs.com and get your directions to finding these little gems. It makes it all worth while and will give you a different look at what are saying are 'dismal extras'.

You sure you have the right person? I'm one of the few people on this board that doesn't care for slipcovers. I always throw mine away if my DVD comes with one.dvdjunkie wrote:Disney Kid needs to get over his need for needless slipcovers...
Anyway, I find Chicken Little to be a really cute movie, so I don't fit into the group of people who set their standards too high for Disney. The DVD, on the other hand, is weak. The two easter eggs weren't really funny to me and certainly don't make up for the lack of meaty features. I'm not asking for a full-blown 2-Disc set. If Disney gave us a solid 1-disc release of this film like they did with Treasure Planet and Home on the Range, I wouldn't be complaining. Instead, Disney's given us the weakest release for an animated classic since The Rescuers (which came out, what, around 2002 or so?).
When I saw Chicken Little in theaters, I was kind of disappointed. I guess my expectations were too high, plus the theater was full of screaming kids and crying babies. So it wasn't a nice experience.
Well I bought the DVD and watched it last night and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie a lot more than when I first saw it. Its far from being the best Disney movie out there, but its certainly light years ahead of Home on the Range.
The extras are of course lacking, but the video and sound are fantastic, and thats more important to me anyway. I didn't see the credits where they do "Don't go breaking my heart" at theaters, so that was an added treat when I watched it last night.

Those one-minute clips are "little gems"? They didn't even play in theaters. If they were really great, Disney would have put them in during the end credits and shown them to moviegoers. Guess they didn't have confidence in them, so they went direct-to-video.dvdjunkie wrote:Those who are disappointed with the extras - have you found the two hilarious 'hidden' Easter Eggs yet? How many of you got "Chicken Little" at Best Buy - using the price matching from Circuit City at $13.99 - to get your Limited Edition Pez dispensers?
I have quite a collection of these from several Disney films, but mostly from the Star Wars prequels and Batman Begins. They are pretty neat, and looking at eBay, very collectible.
