Alan Menken talks FROG PRINCESS & SNOW QUEEN

Post by Kram Nebuer »

Hehehe, I should be sleeping, but no...:P

I did a search, twice, for a topic pertaining to this and was surprised to find this hasn't been reported yet. Also, the info seems fit for both General Discusssion and the Disney Theme Parks Forum.

I don't know if I'm reading the article wrong, but it looks like in addition to Rapunzel, Disney's next animated princess feature will be The Frog Princess, which I'm guessing is the well-known story about the frog prince, only with the Princess as the main focus or the princess becoming the frog.

Anyhow, I don't know if this has ever been reported or even mentioned before, but I thought it was some pretty incredible news! Apparently Disney's new contract with Menken not only includes work with The Shaggy Dog (score), The Little Mermaid Broadway Musical, and Enchanted, but it also includes other live-action movies, The Frog Princess, and a new stage musical for Tokyo DisneySea The Snow Queen! I know Marc Davis or maybe John Hench had created concept art for a Snow Queen attraction or snow roller coaster planned for WDW's Fantasyland in the 1970s. Perhaps, the Imagineers are taking this idea off the shelf and are finally putting it to good use! :D

The article does not go too much into details. It is from The Hollywood Reporter; I'm not too sure about its credibility, but I do recall hearing other reports and rumors from this source.

ETA: Luke or Mod...I dunno what's wrong but my topic title is getting messed up. It first read "Menken and "The Frog Princess" and "The Snow Queen"" but got cut off and read "The snow Que." Then I shortened it and it still got cut off, so I shortened it some more and it read Menken: "The Frog Princess"/"The Snow Queen&q. I have no idea what's going on... :?

Menkin rejoins Disney! The Frog Princess and The Snow Queen!

Post by Disney Duster »

Very nice news! It finally seems that things are just getting better with Iger! But, even though they sound like cool live-action movies and shows, I'd rather see new hand-drawn animated movies of The Frog Prince and The Snow Queen. But how can I complain when it's still very cool news, especially if Alan Menkin is involved! Although he did also do some music for Home on the Range, and, ummm....well that isn't considered good at all by many people(I haven't seen it but so many people don't like it I don't think I would either).

if you love his music, you should really just see the movie and forget what everyone says about the it. It's sweet, short and funny. It's not trying to be more than that. You might like it.

As long as these movies are traditionally animated, I'm good. They need a good animated feature to bring them back into the Glory Days that they left with the release of Atlantis.
:pan: Love It.

Wow this really good news I think Menkin is wonderful! I cant wait to see what amazing things he bring to the table. And I am with whoever said thats these movies should be with traditonal animation. I dont think 2-D animation movies were failing becasue they were 2-d I think it was the story lines. So if they can get it togethere and come up with a great plot they way the movie is presented should not matter.

Or it could be about a lesser known fairy tale than the one we're all familiar with.

Here is some info I just found on the Snow Queen, now I wonder if Disney is going to stick to the story or change it like they did with Snow White..... I am sure they probably will, sinc e they usually do so does anyone have any ideas how they may adapt this story to make it their own?

I just saw the news on the front page today! Yay!! I'm glad that The Frog Princess is going to be in 2-D animation! Also, I was right about it being a female version of the Frog Prince. Though that other story previously posted sounds like it would make an interesting film too. I can't wait for this and Enchanted! Yay for Disney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Couldn't agree with you more! His music is actually VERY complex. People think it would be simple since its "just a Disney movie" but his scores and arrangements are at times harder to play than some of Broadway's best writers.
For me, he's right up there with Andrew Lloyd Webber for favourite composers! I'd go see any movie that he's writing the music for!

Maybe because he and Howard Ashman wrote for broadway (Little Shop of Horrors),. I don't think a lot of people know that. Off topic, but I'm curious as to what instrument you play his music on and where do you find his scores for sheet music? I have a Disney Music collection, but it only has The Little Mermaid, and except for Kiss the Girl (the harmony is a pain in the rear b/c of the off beats), the songs aren't too difficult on piano.
