Dalmatians Remake OAR query (and other long subject lines)

Post by Loomis »

I was out shopping with my credit card tonight, and I happened to wander into a place in which DVDs were sold.
I did pick up the Animatrix and the new James Bond (which sucked, but I'm a completist so whatareyougoingtodohuh?).
I also saw Pete's Dragon and a 101 Dalmatians box set (remakes) had just been re-released here. It looked very cool, and I was almost tempted to pick it up but I had a query about the aspect ratios.
It had 2:35 and 1:85 respectively on the box for the two Dalmatian films.
Are these correct? I'm pretty sure the first is, but I'm not sure about the second...
Just wanted to check. Not too fussed about these things, and it will probably be a while before I pick them up, buti was curious.
Thanks in advance for any help...

In America, the 2-Pack contains 101 Dalmatians in its original aspect ratio (2.35:1) and the sequel in Pan & Scan.

No biggie...you can pick them up individually, right? Wrong. The 101 Dalmatians (1996) DVD was discontinued, so the only way to get it is through the 2-Pack, which means buying the Foolscreen 102.

Who would want to buy just one of the movies in the right aspect ratio, and one in the wrong?! What a stupid thing. And they even come together in one case, so it's not like you can just sell 102 by itself, unless you're just selling the disc.

But you say the package said 1.85:1 for the sequel, so you've probably got a different set in Australia?

In the UK you cannot get a "full screen" version of 102 - so I assume the same is true for our Oz cousins - however, I cannot remember if 102 has a ratio of 2.35 or 1.85. Sorry.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I just purchased the 101/102 pack together on-line for about 29.00 (that is with shipping). The 101 is widescreen and 102 is fullscreen with the aspect ratios like Luke said. I saw just the 102 movie at my local Best Buy in widescreen. I wish I could have just gotten both in widescreen, but can't unless I want to shell out another 15.00 or so.

loomis, I would stick with what you have if the aspect ratios are what Luke said. sounds like you already got em!

You could buy the widescreen one, switch out the fullscreen one, and sell the fullscreen one on ebay, in the case the widescreen case came in. Just mention that you are selling the full frame version in your ad.

Oh, I have an even better idea...and I did it once in the past for a different title. But it's probably not very ethical, so I won't post it.

(But it is fast and easy. At least it was for me.)

Luke,

you got me wondering.....please confess to the minister.

you can do this by coming to my private box and telling all. I'll offer some kind of forgiveness....

Sounds like the local box set is the way to go then...
Might pick it up when cash is flowing freely from my pockets, and I've bought all the other things I want (like a new pair of Converse...). Thanks guys.

2099 - Yeah, it is the same here for the single disc 102. 1:85 according to the michaeldvd.com.au review.

Sounds like we got a pretty good deal.

Would preorder some of these things to get discounts, but Disney here - like in the US and everywhere else - don't release their specs until you see it on the packaging - and sometimes that is not always reliable...
