Aquamarine

For me the appeal of "Aquamarine" is about the same as that of "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" except it is truly for the twelve to fourteen age group that Hollywood calls "tween-agers". The story is sort of like "sisterhood" that it concerns three girls at a beach resort who's lives are changed by the discovery of a mermaid in their pool after a storm. Starring Emma Roberts, Joanna Levesque and Sara Paxton this film sort of plods along as a cheap imitation of "Splash". Nothing original is done that hasn't been done better and the 'love triangle' between the mermaid and the lifeguard, Ray, is nothing if totally predictable in outcome. While Roberts and Levesque will probably make some more movie in the future, this one will not stand out as a plus in their careers. I was totally bored, but my 7 year old granddaughter thought 'the boy was cute', and the pre-teen girls my wife and I were escorting to this film were enthralled totally. Judging from their reactions I would give this film two out of four stars, but my own personal rating would be a one and a half star.

Who's ragging on "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants"? Not me. I love that movie. I saw it at the theater five times and practically broke down the doors of Best Buy getting in to buy it the day it came out. What did you miss in my posting about "Aquamarine" that would lead you to thinking I was trashing "Sisterhood....."?

Hrm.. funny. I found Aquamarine fantastic. It seems it has been forever since I've seen a totally fun flick, and this filled the bill. Plus, I have quite the soft spot for mermaids

And, I lobster-love The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

You are probably in the age group that "Aquamarine" was aiming at. For the adult crowd I will still maintain that "Splash" was a much better picture. This one is striclty for the young kids who have never seen "Splash" or are just looking for 80 minutes of innocent fun. It definitely won't win any Academy Awards for acting or originality.

I will watch "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" every day for a year before I watch "Aquamarine" once more.

I don't think every producer is aiming to have their every film product an award winner. That's pretty obvious.

Well..you are absolutley...correct.

I am, indeed in the age group Aquamarine was aiming for. Yet, comparing it to Splash is a saddening travesty. Luckily, as you pointed out - it was 80 minutes of totally innocent fun.

Well.....13 would technically be an actual teenager.

I always thought ages 9-12 were "tweens". Not little kids anymore...but not teenagers yet.

Of the seven reviews I have read of this film they all said "made especially for the tween-ager (11-14)", so that is all that I had to go on using that term. 9-12 would make more sense to me also. I just know that all the young girls 11-14 that my wife and I chaperoned to see this film had a good time. I kept getting the preverbial elbow in the ribs to keep me awake during the film.

My almost-nine-year old step-daughter is begging me to take her to see this movie. I have absolutely no interest in seeing it....and I'm begging her to wait until the DVD comes out!

I'm sure this movie is attractive to 8-16 year old girls, broading the range beyond tweens. Unfortunately I am 29, and fall out of this range!

I would much rather spend my money on a Disney movie, but what can you do?

That first line where you said "For me the appeal of "Aquamarine" is about the same as that of "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants".

So if you didn't like Aquamarine, and the appeal was the same as Sisterhood, then logically...
