Okay, disney.co.uk hasn't been wrong yet so they might be right about both dates for The Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians.

The Little Mermaid October 2006
The Jungle Book March 2007
101 Dalmatians October 2007
Pinocchio March 2008
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Oct. 2008
Peter Pan March 2009
Sleeping Beauty March 2010
The Lion King Oct 2010 (not listed but possible)
Fantasia/ Fantasia 2000 March 2011
Aladdin Oct 2011 (not listed but possible)
Bambi March 2012 (not listed but possible)
Beauty and the Beast Oct. 2012
But the Beauty and the Beast should be listed for october 2009 because it doesn't make sense to release it on 2012 after Bambi

Assuming the list is correct, that would imply that 101 Dalmatians was fully restored recently so it can sit in the vault til fall 2007 while The Jungle Book would have to begin restoration work immediately to get it ready for spring 2007.

That just doesn't make sense.

Also, as a few others have stated, thinking in terms of box sets, it would make more sense that The Junge Book be a fall release. I like both films but I don't think a 101 Dalmatians box set would sell as many copies as a Jungle Book one would.

I sent my friend an email about this.

I'll let you know what her reply is.

You're right - this part doesn't make sense, but....see my other comments...

I think that Disney won't be ready by spring for a full-fledged 101 Dalmatians campaign. All those black and white spots really appeal to kids and they could make a ton of money with the merchandising. I don't buy the boxed sets, but to me a 101 Dalmatians one makes more sense (and being this is one of my favorite Disney movies, I just might buy one if it's available). I hope it's Jungle Book in spring, and 101 Dalmatians in the fall to give them more time to advertise and really do it right.

p.s. I like the Jungle Book too, and hope they really do that one justice too...

SPOTS SELL!!!

way better than Jungle Book.
now I love both films, but which one will reel in the dough?
Dalmatians!

the live action version grossed $136m at the domestic box office, opened with $45m. there were spots everywhere on all types of merchandise from toys to towels to clothes to housewares. 102 Dalmatians grossed $67m at the box office.

The live action Jungle Book grossed $44m domestic and in rerelease the animated picked up $45m in 1990. Whereas 101 rerelease in 1991 did $61m.

How much Jungle Book merchandise and/or marketing campaigns have you seen during a period where the movie is not being rereleased?
How many shirts have Jungle Book characters on them at The Disney Store versus how many have Dalmatians or Cruella?

Disney knows that puppies will sell and are cute and cuddly and marketable to boys and girls and adults as well.

101

I have to say that The Jungle Book would be better off in the boxed set instead of 101 Dalmatians. Probably because it was Walt's last project, and since it was, then there might me more bonus features about that. Oh well, what does everyone else think?

Well, having more bonus features doesn't really mean a movie will get a gift set. Remember, all a gift set is is just the regular DVD, a book, 9 drawings, and a cel, all packaged inside a box. It has nothing to do with bonuses, it's just more stuff to advertise. Bambi had better bonus features than Cinderella, but it didn't get a gift set, while Cinderella did.

I'd prefer Jungle Book in a gift set rather than Dalmatians, but I must agree with the people who say that the dalmatians are more marketable than The Jungle Book characters. Most average DVD buyers don't even know that The Jungle Book was Walt's last film. Hell, I know a few people who think he's still alive and that he's the one still making the films nowadays. My point is that Disney really doesn't consider a movie's history when marketing to the general audience. They probably want fans to think "WHOAMG!!!! PUPPIES!!!!1!!!" when buying the movie, which is why I think the dalmatians sell better than Baloo or Bagherra.

Well, now it looks like what I wanted to happen isn't going to happen. I love 101 Dalmatians....and I REALLY REALLY hope that Disney does this right. I expect to see lots of advertisement for this movie. I can't wait to see the cover art.

At least now I only have to wait until late February 2007.
