Remember the ''cousins'' from the animé Sailor Moon?

Post by Disney Fanatic »

''Amara'' and ''Michelle'' or more like Hakura and Michiru. For those that saw the S (or third season) part of Sailor Moon, both dubbed on TV and the ''uncut'' DVDs, you should know who are Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune? Cloverway did the dubs for Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon (Japanese name of the she show) S and SuperS, they're also known for in-famously turning Hakura/Amara and Michiru/Michelle from lesbian lovers to what one could get the impression of incestuous lesbian lovers (as cousins, though). I always remember as a kid wondering were they truly cousins or not because of the incest vibe I got from them and the constant touching they did, especially in later episodes. It's just so damn funny how Cloverway really thought that they could cover it up, but fail to nice bigger hints of their relationship. I had a friend's mom who actually they were like that and ''forbide'' him from watching it again. Brings back memories!

Here's Sailor Uranus (Soldier of the Skies) and Sailor Neptune (Soldier of the Oceans) in all their ''cousiny'' glory.

Edit: I started this thread just because it was something that popped in my head watching the anime Sailor Moon and the ''censorship'' that goes in America.

Hehe... yup, I remember the controversy over this when the U.S. dub changed the two to be "cousins" rather than a lesbian couple. I watched a wee bit of Sailor Moon when it was syndicated on TV years ago, but never really got too into the series. A tad too girly for my tastes, even though I'm a girl. :P

So suffice to say, I've never actually seen any episodes with Uranus and Neptune, but from what you describe they sound hawt hawt HAWT!

Well Sailor Moon was one of the animes that got me into anime. I do remember Neptune and Uranus very vividlly. However, younger I never thought anything of it, of course, but now I know better. However Neptune is hot. :)

Yeah I watched some of Sailor Moon and remember everyone saying they were cousins. But there was one episode where Sailor Uranus really looked looked like guy in the one where she was a race car driver or something like that.

I remember watching Sailor Moon as a kid (in Japanese, no less), and even I knew back then Hakura and Michiru were lovers.

I laughed when I watched the US dub and found out they were said to be "cousins".

I never heard about this before. I watched the show sometimes when it was on Cartoon Network but they probably never played any of the episodes featuring these girls.

Wrong, Lucylover1986 (). CN showed the episodes of sailor moon featuring Sailor Uranus and Neptune back in somewhat 2001-2002. I watched Sailor Moon S and Super S and I always thought they were cousins. Now I realized that U.S. did a quite a change from lovers to "cousins", it brings back memories.

As for Haruka, looked like a man, well her "male" school outfit protect her from preventing rumors that she and Michiru were lovers (well, for most part her disguise as a man and michiru). I could be wrong though, but it's been a long time since I watched those series.

Sailor Moon is basically a magic-girl ''cartoon'' from Japan that falls into the ''magic-girl'' category with Heavens knows how many others as well. Sailor Moon use to air from late 1995 to late 1997 in the States by ''DiC'' which I'd glady would like to add a k after the c and heads after it because the way they butchered the show. Cloverway then dubbed S and Super S (third and fourth seasons) which were more or less considered worse dubs than the ones made in 1995-1997. Toonami use to air it on Cartoon Network in the 2001-2002 season, if I remember correctly. They showed S in the summer and SuperS in late August.

Boy, it still makes me giggle how Cloverway really thought they could cover it up by adding a ''family'' reference, all it does is just give their relationship a eerily incestuous vibe.
