"Art of Walt Disney" Book

Post by musicradio77 »

Yesterday, we went to Barnes & Noble and I found this excellent book entitled "The Art of Walt Disney" by Christopher Finch. This book gives you all the info and all of the details in Disney animated films including cels, backgrounds and other stuff. From Mickey Mouse to the Magic Kingdoms. That's what the slogans says in the book. This book was from 2004. That was 2 years ago and I love it. The first book was published in 1973 and it was great. I used to have the original 1973 edition when I was a kid. It was a blue hard cover book and it had no slip cover on it. But i lost it at the time since I couldn't find it. But now, I finally bought it. Chris Finch is a great arthur who wrote interesting books on art & literature. The whole background of animation in this book were great. It has drawings from Walt's career, the background cels for "Snow White", "Pinocchio" and others including Walt's personal photos and much more including photos of Disneyland and Disney World. This book has 504 pages long. It was a revised and updated version from its original 1973 book. I bought it for $60, wow! Any thoughts about this book, please respond. Thanks!

I own that book. It's more than excellent!! It enlightened my whole Disney thought!! I hope they revise it again soon! It even mentions everything about Walt's childhood! It's the complete Disney history! I consider it as my Disney Bible!!

I hope someday in the future version, Finch will talk about "Chicken Little", "The Chronicles of Narnia" and Bob Iger, the new chairman of Disney as well as the 50th anniversary of Disneyland. That will be in the future.

I would really love to own this books, given its comprehensive and definitive nature. The price tag is just too high, though. The latest edition commands eighty bucks, depending on where you get it. This is not an ordinary hardback. Technically, this is an art book and approaches Disney from an art critic's background. Books like these are normally very expensive because of the scholarly research that goes into them and because they generally have a limited audience. I've found that editions of this book are more readily found in art museums, than bookstores. If anyone has bought an art book on a specific artist, then you are pretty familiar with the layout. I love it! :)

I have never seen this book anywhere for $80. I would suggest seriously shopping around before ever paying that much for it.

The regular retail is only $60, so whoever is charging $80 for it is really ripping you off.

You can get the 2004 Hardback edition at the Books-A-Million website for $40 and if you have a club card it would only be $36. That's where I got my copy about a year ago. You can't beat $36 for it.
