I can't believe that this slipcover doesn't open like a book, because I mean it's a Platinum and all their slipcovers should open like a book at least to mark a little defference between a Platinum and a simple Special Edition...

...or a non-special edition, or a DTV, or a Ghibli film.
I don't really care if the slipcover opens or not. Actually, it's a little better this way. It has less of a chance of breaking now. If you want something that shows a little difference between it and your other DVDs, you've still got that whopping "Platinum Edition" banner on the front of the cover.

If you're talking about DaveWadding's smilie, then no, he's not joking. The slipcover really doesn't open like a book. Look at this part of Luke's review:
Luke wrote:Unlike past entries, this one's slipcover does not "open like a book" to tout the bonus features and restoration held within.

When the Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix came out I thought that this was an exclusive thing for the Platinums, but then they release Mary Poppins with this included...
So like you said, now the only thing that we have left is this banner...
Aww man. I love the thick feeling of a Platinum dvd because of the huge DVD Insider Magazine and the slipcover book, but now it's thin. I feel sorry for people who are blind because they can't SEE the magic of platinum edition, and now they can't FEEL the magic of platinum edition. Way to go Disney!
All in all, I'm over it. I'm not surprised one bit Disney did this.

It's still got the DVD Insider, you know. All we're missing is the part of the slipcover that actually opens, which isn't even a millimeter thick. I'll still get the "Holy mother-of-pancakes, it's a Platinum!" feeling.

We are not saying that the Platinums don't have magic, we are just saying that now the quality of the slipcovers is not the same that we had in prior releases of this edition.
I can't complain too much. At least we get a slipcover. We have to wait for Snow White to get re-released before it gets the same DVD packaging and slipcover as the other PE's.

Yeah I know, it's just me who gets that feeling. For me it just defines a Platinum from a Special.
Hey isnt it illegal for stores to sell dvds ahead of their release dates? I know that everytime a bookstore got busted for selling the new Harry Potter book earlier than the set date, it makes national news.
It is illegal but unless it's something as big as a new Harry Potter book which has to be kept under wraps then they're not going to really do too much. It's not like no one's seen LATT before so it's not a huge deal.
The stores are not supposed to sell them early, and if they get caught can get in trouble. When I worked at Office Depot several years ago we had a small DVD section. When The Matrix was released one of the guys working there bought a copy a few days before it was supposed to be put out. Somehow it went though the computer system, and the store got fined. I forget the amount, but it was more than the $20 the DVD cost.
Strange that the slipcover doesn't open like a book. Oh well still can't wait to pick this up.
