More damn, dirty apes.... (Planet of the Apes SE)!!!

Post by Loomis »

I'm not sure if we knew about this before, bu this was posted on DVDFile this morning...
Get yer stinkin' paws off me, you damn dirty ape! Yes, those crazy chimps are back. On February 3rd, Fox Home Entertainment will release a new 35th Anniversary Edition of the 1968 classic Planet of the Apes. What can fans expect this go-round? How about separate 4:3 full screen and (at last) a new 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen versions, each with a Dolby Digital 5.1 remix and so many extras it takes two discs to hold it all: two audio commentaries with Roddy McDowell, Natalie Trundy, Kim Hunter and effects artist John Chambers, plus a second commentary/isolated score with composer Jerry Goldsmith, a text commentary by Eric Greene, the "Behind The Planet Of The Apes" documentary, exclusive Roddy McDowall home movies, rare dailies and outtakes, the featurettes "A Look Behind The Planet Of The Apes," "Don Taylor Directs Escape from the Planet of the Apes," "J. Lee Thompson Directs Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" and the original EPK, multiple still galleries including photos, production art and film reviews, and trailers for all of the Apes flicks. Retail is $26.95.

Sweet! This movie rocks - one of my favorite sci-fi films, and one of the '60s films that holds up as rather entertaining today, too. Sure, some of the evolution stuff is hokey and heavy-handed, but it's still an awesome movie, and one that I'm now glad I haven't purchased yet.

This movie in full screen is yuck...in fact any 2.35:1 movie in fullscreen is yuck, even Super 35 ones.

I ashamedly must admit I own the dreadful Tim Burton remake, as I got the DVD for free (it was the only worthwhile choice)...I still have that 2-disc. Never watch it. And he's going to do something like that for Willy Wonka, too. Ugh, I'll pass.

Yeah you wonder why they'd put a P & S version on there when they've gone to the trouble (supposedly) of doing "a new 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen version".
Go figure...

At least they'll be separate releases. Don't want that crap taking up space on the set...and it won't be. :D

Why a full-screen transfer? The film was released in 1968,not 1998.Old movies don't get cropped treatments. This is like the idiots at Sony who keep bare-bones releases on shelves, even though the special editions are out(a la:Mothman Propechies,Enough,Enigma).

You know what would be a cool easter-egg/bonus feature?

The Troy McClure/Simpsons musical.

"I hate every ape I see/from Chim-pan-A to Chim-pan-Z"

(that joke doesn't work in written form in Australia or the UK. The last bit would read Chim-pan-zed). :)

Damn you Loomis, I was going post that exact idea earlier.

"The movie or the planet?"

Fox has rights, too. They should do it!

This is one classic Sci-Fi flick I have never gotten in to.
Maybe I just haven't been in the right mood when I've attempted to watch it before, but man does it bore me to death.

Perhaps it's time to give it another shot ....

Yes you've
finally made a monkey
out of me!

Loomis, I hope FOX knows how disappointed we'll be if they DON'T include this legitimate theater as an Easter Egg.

You're also lazy.
